  • Hey Guys,
This is the 17th video of our 2001 Thomas School Bus Tiny House Conversion.
Today we started prepping the bus to paint the roof. We used dish soap, AJAX, rags, scourers, high powered hose and a mop to get the job done. The roof was dirty with a little mold but NO RUST! BOOM! WINNING! ♥
The roof cleaned up really nicely. Yay! We are excited to paint the roof so it is water tight and we can avoid any more leakages into the interior of the bus.
Soon enough, we'll have a tiny house.
    Yehaaaaw!
We hope you enjoy this video.

Screws and/or rivets with silicone are fine with the sheet metal you are patching/repairing. Welding thin gauge takes practice and if the panels are aluminium or galvanised it is much harder still to weld. Your doing it right or at least the most practical way to fix it, (by my experience anyway lol) keep up the good work.

We did find water inside the bus when it rains hard. I'm unsure of exactly how it's happening. I know it's coming in primarily from the emergency exits. It's possible that the water is coming in and running along the roof sheeting. That would be great as we can upgrade the silicone on the emergency exits. We've got 2 days of sunshine to paint, then we'll have a day of rain. Hopefully we can make it watertight in the next two days.

Bugger, leaks can be a devil to track down, there is a paint that rv builders use that makes a watertight one piece skin that might be an option when you do paint the roof, also the emergency exit windows may just need new seals, they dry out, shrink and crack over time. Hoping a simple silicone bead will do the trick for you in sealing things up.

i just did that today on mine! The camera didn't catch any of it but oh what a nice yellow it was after scrubbing! I used a soft brush on a long handle, a dust broom, a hose, and a sprayer bottle full of soapy water. I still need to scrub a little more and I'll use the brush on the handle again. the side of the roof, where you lay on your belly to reach.

Hey podcaster Sasha! Yeah, we're going to us it as a tiny house driving around the states for a bit and AirBnB it out when we're out of the country. Thank you for the comment.
