    I have said it from the beginning...
    Unregulated and unlimited NIL and transfer portal BS will DESTROY college football as we know it.
    Bama players have always had loyalty and team first attitude, but times are changing for everyone. Sad.
    Most of the good players Bama just lost were bought. Really not due to Saban retiring.

    Bama fan here:
    Just going off Saban’s personality that we have all grown to love or hate.. going back to his years @ LSU when he really solidified himself as an elite coach; he has always been a conservative. A hardass. No bull$hit type. Things are done a certain way (the right way). Peete, you’re right, of course Saban is not an NIL advocate. There is not one coach in America that really supports NIL. Not one. I bet Saban dislikes NIL/Transfer portal MORE THAN ANY OTHER COACH in America. Which makes it even more impressive as to how much he adapted throughout his career. Bravo. GOAT

    As long as recruit well, which we do we can compete. If we developed that talent we will win. I agree with Dabos concept, but you have to have the right position coaches to develope the talent. That is what has been missing at Clemson for at least 4 years.

    I figured that was pretty much how Saban stood on the NIL issue. The guy was just trying to give it time and see how it worked out, but still try to see if it was as bad as he thought it would be. I don't blame him. Tough situation.

    Here is what is wrong with NIL....Catlin Clark is worth 3.2 million in NIL money ...women's basketball (an already losing money sport, nationally) yet, she declared for the wnba draft for a max salary of approximately 75k per year...however, she already has so many endorsements she foregoed another eligible college season to rack up now...Who can blame her for that.....

  • @sophecles2b
    @sophecles2b 2 месяца назад +2

    I think a lot of folks have NIL and endorsements conflated...NIL is what allows players to get paid for endorsements...so when you see for example, Arch Manning with a $7 Mil NIL...he is not being paid $7 mil...it is an estimate of what he could make from endorsements; for example... Gatorade may want him to endorse their product so Gatorade pays him $500K or Addidas may want him to endorse a shoe...they may pay him $250K or McDonalds want him to endorse their burger...they may pay him $100K...or Chevy may want to give him a car... $60K....not all kids will get that type of endorsement...so now there is a collective of boosters that may contribute $5 mil to a pot...and based on a kids evaluation of his brand...which is the NIL...this kid could get $15K from the collective...while Arch is able to get $1 mil from endorsements.....and Dabo was correct; some institutions use their collective to lure kids away... cough cough Texas cough cough Georgia...Clemson has the 1st NIL institute to train players how to brand themselves, they have PAW Journey, the 1st of it kind to help prepare Clemson graduates with interns for life after football... Clemson graduate nearly 100% of their recruits....they get state of the art physical therapy, healthy meals, and a free education all worth well over $100K each...Dabo does a great job of evaluating and recruiting men...he is leading the way...I don't think he should play that portal game...not worth infusing kids of lower character...and another CU coach has expressed the same concerns with the portal even with his high use of it to rebuild his program....Dabo was right from the beginning and Clemson does not need to play the portal game

    The bottom line is no one is paying season tickets to watch Dabo Swinney on the sideline or to hear him bitch and moan at about NIL. Fans/donors are paying money to watch Clemson win games. Without the players, this doesn’t happen. Without the players, these athletic programs can’t keep the lights on. Without the players, there are no TV contracts, no ticket sales, no merchandise sold. Without the players, we wouldn’t even know who or what a Dabo is. The players are the product! Damn right they’re going to get paid. Toothpaste is out of the tube. Good luck trying to put it back in.

    Agreed! I'm like Dabo in I think NIL and transfer portal or good for players but it must be regulated. Hell even the NFL has regulations and caps. I'm not sure what exact model would be best but the wild wild west is not it. Transfers must be limited and each University must have an overall equal cap for starters.

      Wrong, the ones now over the ncaa are destroying college football on purpose. And you are going to see exactly that. You are giving seventeen and eighteen year olds power over the entire sport, most of which have no father or a solid upbringing. A recipe for disaster, and the vultures to scam these soon to be less educated players are in place to remove these kids from as much nil money as possible. Not a pretty prospect, but it all about money.

  • @jaredsmith4281

    I think it's more that there is not a fair or transparent system setup currently to handle NIL/transfer portal. I think we are getting there but still some time away. I get why coaches are frustrated. They are losing some of the power they had established. No one ever likes losing power in any walk of life.

    The only thing good about the portal and nil is that it levels the playing field, no team in college football will go on some dominant spree in the next ten years ,Georgia thinks they will, but the love for money and notoriety is bigger than nick Saban and Kirby smart,lot more teams can compete now and thats a good thing

    We knew NIL and the portal would create parody for most other schools. That is a lot more schools get better players, the elite coordinators are in shorter demand as more get HC'ing jobs. The work load would massively increase for a HC as you have to be on the move constantly, fending off other schools tampering and reach a desired NIL compensation with collectives. This isn't something a 72 year old like Saban wants to do. Plus, ugly displays of poor sportsmanship he said didn't help after the Michigan loss. Dabo has two choices, adapt or quit. There is no world in which he can trash the NIL and portal, not participate in this rat race and expect to compete. Also considering what changes may lie ahead in relation to Clemson and a possible future conference change.
