You grow about 1/2 inch (13mm) per artificial disc level. So three levels is about 36mm to 40mm or so. Why, because you had compressed discs and the artificial disc adds some height. Hamstrings are always tight as well as other muscular tightness. Massage and physical therapy is required as well as 6 to 12 months. Muscles don’t like being lengthened. So it may be a problem for years or the rest of your life to some degree. I have had 2 levels in the neck, one level in the lumbar and a two level fusion lumbar. It just is what it is. If you have to add muscle relaxers for bed, but only when nothing else works. The longer you use muscle relaxers the less effective they are, yet some are stuck using them. Good Sleep is restorative. If you are in pain, sleep sucks and does not perform important restorative functions to help your progress.
Simple floor to chest lifts - bend over and straighten up lifting a 3 foot (1meter) stick pole or bar will help. Keep it light and breath deeply. Lots of water too to help flush built up toxins out of muscle fibers.
Weekly deeper - slowly getting deeper allowing blood to flow between strokes of pressure (not heavy) massage helps the process. Pick a massage therapist who has worked with post surgical rehab. One caution the first 8 weeks is only light pressure around any scar area, you don’t want to add scar tissue. If you were bent over before the surgery, the two large psosas muscles will be tight. This requires a deep massage at the lowest part of the abdomen next to the groin that targets and strips the muscles. It requires a therapist who is well experienced, it is painful for the moments this is being done (few minutes a side) - yet, is one of the most pain relieving cures by far. The therapist MUST have very well trimmed fingernails as this reaches in a couple inches to reach.
Keep in perspective, at times you may need to take an Antiinflammatory for a period of time (month or more) and by the way, start eating something and then take the medicine then keep eating to envelope medication away from the stomach walls. Daypro is often better for spinal inflammation. In some instances people may need Lyrica - a nerve calming pain drug. Seek a interventional pain physician if you are not making progress with good sleep. A hot bath before bed can make a big difference too. It relaxes muscles and also releases a burst of oxytocin that helps you mind-chemically.
Acupuncture can be added if necessary. If you have tight areas of muscle where it is knotty or like a bump of rigid tissue, acupuncture needles dead center in these knots will bring release, blood flow and pain relief. I am a big fan of electro-stim between the needles. It works faster and deeper, but many have to build up faith and tolerance to use that.
The last key is KEEP MOVING to get your life back. Walking and physical therapy will work if you keep it up. We are in a fast paced society and also expect everything at a click of a mouse... Healing is a slow process. Except it for what it is. It won’t get faster because you are impatient. But you can speed recovery and quality of healing with what I just mentioned.

Your incision looks much different than mine. I had no stitches, they used surgical skin glue and covered it with a steri strip.

Hmm, ok. Does yours look ok? Mine is actually looking really good now. I think it will barely be noticeable when its all healed up.

And how are you both now with your backs. I’ve recently been diagnosed with disc degenerative disease and I can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel.... work, playing with my kids and my normal life feels like it’s been dumped down the toilet. Any updates on your surgery’s would be really appreciated please

Why would you need to know? If it's required, spine surgery is paid for by your health insurance provider, unless you live in a developing country.
