You, my friend regardless of accent have earned the Toon passport. Your interest and care tor our canny City is appreciated and you are welcome to play little piano concertos during any dialogue for eternity. Appreciate you Marra! ❤
To anyone who is criticising the newer developments in the area, just know that before they were built, the land was most likely abandoned shipyards or derelict brewery’s. As someone form the wider Newcastle area, these new developments are only a positive for the city as they help to revitalise derelict industrial buildings
I mostly agree m8 with the exception of the offices built around the back of The Berry which have ruined the view of SJP when you're coming up through Chinatown. But mostly (especially the new quarter on the old brewery site) the developments have been positive.
14:54 Strangely enough Cale Cross house and the old Bass HQ in front of it, get a big thumbs up from two visiting Americans @ 1:38 in the video 'Exploring NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE: Is this the best city in the UK?!'. They just love 'New Castle's' mix of new and old.
I'm really enjoying these videos Jordan. They are really informative and superbly presented. I'm learning lots I didn't previously know about Newcastle. My only suggestion would be to turn down the background music as it is a bit intrusive.
There is a small model of the city centre just inside Newcastle Uni's King's Gate building on Barras Bridge, opposite the Civic Centre. It's squeezed under the though, stairs so it's easy to miss. There used to be a small cast bronze model on the pavement opposite the station but I don't know where that is now.
Enjoyed watching your video. A good review of tower blocks in Newcastle, both those that were built and those that are long gone. You did mention that you are not keen on the exterior of Cale Cross House. The new exterior is the third time that the exterior has changed. The original exterior was black panelling! Fitted in with the soot covered buildings of the time but not after those buildings were cleaned up!
Very enjoyable video. Although distant I like the view you get from about 3 miles out from the top of the old pit heap in Wallsend, part of the Rising Sun Country park
Hello Jordan. Great fan of your videos. Just watched the one on Newcastle's underpasses. They're grim! I live on the 18th floor of Vale House with an excellent view. The architect of Vale House was Douglas Wise whose son, Greg, is married to the actress Emma Thompson. A woman who still lives here was one of the first people to move here in 1968. The rent was 5 shillings (25p) a week! It's now £111 per week. The building hasn't changed but the rent certainly has. 😂
Very well made video, one of your best. Great narration, and I really see the effort you've put in. Great shots of the bridges too, I didn't realise how impressive they are
I've actually worked in the cale cross building and it's almost as troubled as when it was first built the internal refurbishment is taking months over schedule and has already changed hands back in december when the main management company ran out of funds and in general the management of work inside is in shambles the workers have a very negative look on the work and how management is handling it especially considering the fact that alot of the plasterboard panels for the walls is carried manually up the stairs which has caused a few accidents and lots of fatigue when the service elevator which is fully working and able to carry materials up and down is prohibited for some arbitrary reason
Good to hear that rather upbeat conclusion and its contents - particularly the clustering of tall buildings to make an ensemble, where the buildings aesthetically enhance each other. A lot of Newcastle's development to date (particularly in the 1970's) I would describe against the above "ensemble" concept as "snaggle-toothed", giving a disharmonious whole. Please don't destroy any more of the lovely altstadt.
Councils should take note that most people don't want to live in a tower block. Housing should be human sized. Also as more offices allow remote working and digital storage of files, there isn't the need for huge offices. How about they build elegant buildings that compliment the surrounding buildings and not stick out like sore thumbs.
Growing up in the 80's we used to call Byker wall the lego houses. I have a totally different view on tall buildings after the Twin Towers incident and reinforced by the Grenfell Tower, I don't like them at all now
Ok, am I the only one that, in a split second of seeing that Virtual Map program thingy for the first time, immediately thought... " Get on to ROCKSTAR GAMES " " We got GTA Newcastle right here." We have the map, Street's Buildings & all. Rockstar just needs to do its magic. DLC's & Expantion packs add coasts & other NE areas doing all the content we have in all the classic GTA games. No.... just me!?!
skyscrapers as they exist today are hideous and are only built to fatten the pockets of the developer, we need properly designed and unique buildings of quality materials like brick, and should respond the existing historic fabric of the area
Newcastle claim gatesheads skyline South bank of the tyne and millenium bridge, whenever see on tv or whatever is referred to as newcastle. When i have been to newcastle, the local people do not put visitors correct. No mention of gateshead at all
Newcastle has fantastic architecture but it's not a museum an needs new modern buildings, but be very careful I'm from MCR and the development is off the chart 50 skyscrapers being built and another 50 in the pipeline the city I grew up in is unrecognisable
Any day with a new Jordan Reeve video is a good day.

it would be nice if Northumbria Uni release the 3d model into the public domain

An excellent and well structured video Jordan, that shows me parts of Newcastle and their history I didn't know exist..
thanks as always for your support Vince
Makes me want to head into Newcastle with my camera, nice work♥

what’s great about that model is that it allows you to find buildings on campus by lighting up. which I always think is so impressive
These videos are of such a high standard. Need more recognition
Admirable work, as usual!
What a great and well put together video.
Glad you liked it!

Another Jordan Reeve banger
Another excellent video and future resource 👍

I work at Nexus so i got to see Hadrians tower being built from when it was literaly a hole in the ground to what it is now.
Hi Jordan I’m just wondering if they are building the helix towers. Or any of the others you named
Ok, am I the only one that, in a split second of seeing that Virtual Map program thingy for the first time, immediately thought...

They are built because there's not much land available. You really need some geography lessons don't you .
It’s a shame that digital 3D model of the city isn’t accessible. I would love to have a look
excited to watch my city grow
[Turns up Get Carter Theme Tune]
My home city born and bred
I hope Newcastle gets upgrades just like London.

Expect to see more tower blocks in Newcastle, because migrants are pouring in, and they will need somewhere for them to live.
Very nice but not much of a skyline really. Newcastle needs some nice tall skyscrapers in the city centre.
Newcastle doesn't really have a skyline, it looks very old dated and ugly.
Least its not ugly and ghost town like Sunderland
Even as a Sunderland supporter I have to agree
Great videos, Jordan
