As far as I'm concerned, Final Fantasy 2 is a highly underrated game. The music is awesome, the story is pretty deep, considering the time period in which it was made, the characters are relatable in some aspects and the graphics are (slightly) better than Final Fantasy 1. I wish to share its greatness by providing you with an elaborate FF2 epic orchestral medley- something which I have yet to see on youtube anywhere. FF3 will be next, and I'll be giving it the same treatment, since it deserves a medley, perhaps, even more than the other Final Fantasy games in some ways. We never got a decent translated version of either FFII or FFIII until recently, and some of us missed the boat entirely, thus, the games never got the credit they deserved, especially where the soundtrack is concerned! As for 2, I love this game, but I love the music even more than the game itself. In this arrangement are some of my favourite tracks. The song is a bit shorter than most of them (apart from FF1) since it has so few songs in it. It's not as long as, say, my FF6 one which is 22 minutes long. The original tracks were composed by Nobuo Uematsu.

I love this. This is my favorite game. FF2 got me into Final Fantasy franchise
Poor FF2. Ignored and abandoned. When in truth, this is one of the most finely crafted Final Fantasy titles I have ever played. Minwu made me cry, and the unity of the living and the dead was touching in every way...
FF2 and 3 are both amazing games that get way overlooked. It's funny how in Pokemon, the old games never die, but in Final Fantasy they are completely forgotten... It's a sad legacy for them...
Yes! You are correct. I think FF2 is a beautiful story with unforgettable music and some great characters for its time.
Final fantasy was godly until like the 5th game when it became shitty weeb apeal.
The thing that I didn't like about FF2 was the unbalanced leveling system.
I generally play this game without abusing the leveling bug, and this makes it very obvious that the leveling system in this game doesn't really work during the second half of the game, because the enemies in the later dungeons start throwing dangerous MT status spells on your whole party over and over everywhere, and the only practical way to fix this is by throwing Heal on your party members - and you will not have Heal at a high enough level at that point if you play the game normally, so you end up having to powerlevel that spell anyway, which is kind of annoying.
I also feel that the dungeons look a bit bland and boring sometimes, almost like empty buildings.
But these are pretty much my only issues with FF2 - it does do a lot of things very right as well, like the story and the music.

Final Fantasy 2 holds a special place in my heart. I could play it for days, and i won't even get tired at all.

Yay, a FF2 medley! Despite all the criticism it gets, I was impressed by how ambitious and grand-scale it was for a NES game - and it's soundtrack was great too, as expected from Uematsu.
Love what you did with the Main Theme at 1:05, those trumpets sound amazing! I also really like your arrangement of Magician's Tower at 4:44. Rebel's Army sounds great too! Looking forward to your FF3 medley :)
ChrystalChameleon Thank you! Yes... FF3, in my opinion has the best soundtrack in FF tied with 5, 6 and 9. That being said, the others are EXTREMELY close! There are so many musical styles in the series, and yet, they are all very homogenized in a strange way.

Ah, FFII it is a highly under rated game as you mentioned, some things hold it back still I feel, but the story is not one of the faults. It has a rather deep and engrossing story, especially for the NES era. The combat system has always been rough and the lack of physical skills and nothing beyond Fight and Magic held it back I found. This game is probably the FF most in need of a remake since FFII really does deserve better in terms of its presentation.
Wonderful medley, you hit every important theme and with your own unique twist on themes (your Chocobo remix there was exceptional!)
HighPriestFuneral Thank you very much! I agree with all your points about FF2. It does really need a remake! Also, I'm glad you like the chocobo theme! You might have noticed that, strewn throughout all my medleys, I'm using each recurring melody only once (although I use shades/echos of the prelude everywhere.) FF1 got the biggest dose of the prelude, and FF4 got a decent amount of it, with moderation to make it sound more like the one played at the very end of the PSX remake. FF2 got the added companion jingle. This game also got the chocobo song, since it was the first game ever to include it- albeit not the full version of the melody. FF4 got the Epilogue, since it's very prominent in that particular game. FF5 will be featuring the moogle theme. I might add to either 3 or 5 the jingle that plays when getting an important quest item and/or special job classes.
Those all sound like fantastic ideas, this supplies a good amount of subtlety in the medleys themselves which makes repeated listening more rewarding.
Thank you for bringing one of my favorite FF to life. I would love for you to make a full length version of the overworld theme. You matched the originals overall tone while making it sound more beautiful. Great stuff.

YES! I first played FF2 on the GBA remake, FF1 & FF2: Dawn of Souls, and I instantly fell in love with this game and its incredible music. I really like this medley, I feel like you added a lot to these songs while staying true to the original composition, making the songs almost sound like something that could be used in a new remake of this game, if such a thing were to be released.

RebeccaETripp Yeah, FF5 never really got much recognition, so a new remake could really help to get people to notice that game among the rest of the series. I never played FF5 myself, to be honest, but I've heard good things about it.

Ozel Omer I'm with you on that! I want a FF5 remake most, but having 1 and 2 get the embellishment that the 3 and 4 remakes got would be awesome! FF6 is so great on its own that I'm as concerned, but I'd sure play the carp out of a remake of it, that being said!
The best way to truly experience this game is the PSP remake, as it not only has it's own nice lil features but definitely helped fix the games...issues. I can understand why people don't like it because of them but the PSP version is a must play

this is so good and I love it to pieces the music of this game is among the best in the series but it often gets underrated cause people don't remember the game fondly which is a shame since the best part of the game if you ask me is the music and this medley perfectly captures the glorious quality of the music of this game right down to the order that the music plays well done
I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm a little self-conscious about some of these old medleys because I've gotten so much better at using VSTs and whatnot. Still, I put a lot of soul into it, in part because I also find the soundtrack extraordinary! I think a case could also be made for FF3.

Final Fantasy ll was the first of many things that would appear in later installments. Cid and Chocobos being the obvious, but then there's the Mysidia town, Leviathan, Mini and Toad ( Which are monster spells in this game), Berserk spell is awesome in this game. We got our first Dragoon in this game, the Job system was amazing, Gradually develop your party as you go type of flow and the Keyword system was different. I can see where Final Fantasy IV recycled a few ideas here and there from this game.
Clearly, some serious work was put into this! It certainly paid off :). It sounds excellent. All of the tunes flow seamlessly into one another.

Honestly, this is beautiful. It brings back memories of when i first beat the game and was so exited to tell my dad. Fast forward 7 years and its still my favourite game. The orchestration is amazing, and i am impressed at how well the tracks flow. Very well done. My only complaint is that you didn’t use Castle Pandaemonium. It would be cool if you did a remastered version that followed the order you heard the tracks in game.
Might i ask, what notation software/DAW did you use? And what instruments (kontakt or soundfont?)
I use Kontakt. :) I did use Pandemonium though! It starts at 5:25.

FF2 was my second Final Fantasy. I played the PSP version and fell in love. The game definitely has issues, but I adore the score. The Rebel Army, battle 1, battle 2, Pandemonium, and Ancient Castle are some of my favorite tracks in the series. Definitely underrated music. Also, Emperor Mateus is right up there as a fav villain for me. He's so snarky in Dissidia

+RebeccaETripp My first FF was 10, my favorites are 12 followed by the 16-bit trio, and my favorite villain is Kuja. Kingdom Hearts was like a gateway drug into Final Fantasy and RPGs a little over 10 years ago. How do the games rank for you?

For me, they go 9, 6, 4, 5, 3, 7, 12, 1, 8, 13, 10, 2. Please don't hate me, though! XD To give some indication, I absolutely love both games I ranked last (which, I know are your favorites!) I adore the whole series and it's close between most of them- although my top 4 soar above the rest.
+RebeccaETripp I don't know if I'd say 2 is a favorite, but I do love it. I like it the most of the Famicom games. The only ones I don't really like are 1 because of how bare minimum it is and 8 because the junctioning system is terribly broken, though I can still have fun with 8.

This game needs a serious remake, with Amano styled graphics, a new combat system with more specialties, and voice acting.... Maybe they should have slight French accents because of their names?
