I’m married to a 5-point calvinist for the past 7 years. She became one about a year before we got married. Yes, I was attending Faith Reformed Baptist Church in Media, Pa. in the beginning, but after researching it I stop going. I won’t force my wife to leave. Thanks for this teaching

Hey brother! I went to school briefly in Media, PA. I'm from Montgomery County originally (Norristown, Plymouth Meeting, etc.). I'll pray for you and your wife, and wish you both well. I have some Calvinist teachers in my church and we've been going back and forth on the doctrine. I've recently worked out why the Total Depravity doctrine doesn't work, if you're ever interested to know about it. If TD fails (and it does), then the ULIP begins to break down also. Otherwise, I completely understand and respect your honoring your wife's choice. Best wishes, and God's grace and peace to you both!

Who is he writing to? Who is he talking about? You are ignoring the context (a key to correct hermeneutics). Besides, what is the will of God? Because of Daniel and other texts, you need to distinguish between God's moral will (what he would humans to do) and his all-powerful decretive will that Daniel says can't be thwarted. So, I would ask you if God willed it, would come to pass without fail?

@@ducatiist I'm assuming you are trying to imply that the reward referred to in Rev 22:12 is salvation and that you must earn it. However, that is not correct interpretation of that verse. Salvation (going to heaven) is a gift, not a reward, as was already stated. Rev 22:12 is referring to the rewards that believers will receive in heaven for the good works they have done once they trusted Christ as their Savior.
      1 Corinthians 3
10 According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.
11 For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
      12 Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble;
13 Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
14 If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward.

Salvation is the gift. We can’t save ourselves so God does the work for us and gifts it to us by his Grace. Salvation is by grace through faith. The whole statement is the gift. Meaning it’s free, we didn’t earn it, we didn’t work for it, we just believe, accept by faith, and receive. That’s a free will choice we make yes, but our faith is not a work, meaning it doesn’t merit our salvation, God did that on the cross. Faith in its nature is passive. The Calvinist view makes it seem to me as if faith is a work. Which we know it’s not Ephesians 2:8-10

My understanding of perseverance of the Saints is that the Lord will keep us and that we will persevere, not that we will never fall out if fellowship with him for a time, but that we will always come back…that we will never walk away from the faith completely.

There came a time three years ago when I thought Calvinism was driving me mad. And I asked God to show me the truth of it. He led me to the excellent Soteriology 101 channel here on RUclips, and to John Lennox's marvelous refutation of Calvinism, "Determined to Believe?" ( There is plenty of Lennox on RUclips, but most of it is apologetic for Christianity, some of it deals with the falsity of Calvinism. )
I'm in a PCA church which perhaps has been kinder to me than I deserve: there's always a spy, a snitch, and one of them, who follows my comments under another name on Substacks, brought my comments ragging on Calvinism to the pastor's attention. This has made me nervous. I'm disabled, have a preposterously low income, and the church supplements it marvelously. So far, no threats about that.
And if it happens, I will remind my pastor and the elders that I haven't yet suffered martyrdom, and offer to allow myself to be burned at the stake behind the church.

@@willp.8120Yes, God must reveal the truth of the gospel to us, but isnt that what He is beginning to do when He draws "all men unto" Himself (John 12:32)? Or when He is "the Light that lightest every man who comes into the world" (in John 1)?
Jesus said God hides His truth from the 'wise and prudent", and reveals it to the "babes". Both could be whom He had predestined them to be, EXCEPT that the wise and prudent can become as little children, willing to believe God, and then, it can be revealed unto them, too, a thing which has happen to many wise and prudent people, when they came to the end of themselves. It is stated negatively, that "unless" we "become as little children", we "shall in no wise enter the kingdom". Even though it is stated negatively, it does mean that there is hope for people when we are too wise in our own eyes. We, too, can repent, turning and becoming willing to believe God. The fact that we can repent and turn to Him as little children, doesn't fit anyone being predestined for either heaven or for hell. In fact, if that Bible verse is true, predestination to heaven or hell is a lie; and if predestination to heaven or hell is true, what Jesus said would be a lie! That doesn't have to shake our faith, because the predestination of everything that would ever happen, including who would be saved and who would remain lost is not taught anywhere in the Bible. Bible predestination is of specific things, not everything that would ever happen. That predestination of everything is a pagan, not a Biblical, idea. It comes through Augustine, who changed what he'd taught for 26 years, and taught this doctrine the last 15 years of his life. It was very close to what the Manichaean gnostics had taught, when he belonged to them. The Bible doesn't teach it anywhere.
Setting aside these doctrines allows us to trust God again. God does not lie. "It is not the will of the Father that one of these little ones perish"-Jesus.

This belief is like a weed vine that is weaving itself into churches that did not formerly believe it, and keeping the congergation confused. It's kinda like an honor, or a sign of being highly educated. I term it "I'm saved, sorry about you!" Would our loving God choose people to go to hell? It is all the work of Jesus Christ! The finished work on the Cross. I constantly remind myself that “HE” is holding on to me” NOT “ME” holding on to HIM”! WHAT FREEDOM; WHAT PRIVILEGE; YET WHAT RESPONSIBILITY! His law is written in my heart. I think that is what our Christian Community is missing today because we do not take the indwelling leadership of the Holy Spirit seriously as One who will guide, teach, protect, confirm and convict. And he went into all the region around the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins.
    Acts 13:24
Before his coming, John had proclaimed a baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.
    Acts 19:4
And Paul said, “John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in the one who was to come after him, that is, Jesus.”
    Matthew 4:17
From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”
    Matthew 9:13
Go and learn what this means, “I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.” For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.
    Mark 1:15
And saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
    Luke 5:31-32
And Jesus answered them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.”
    Luke 17:3
Pay attention to yourselves! If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him.
    Luke 24:47
And that repentance and forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.
    Mark 6:12
So they went out and proclaimed that people should repent.
    Acts 2:38
And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
    Acts 3:19
Repent therefore, and turn again, that your sins may be blotted out.
    Acts 5:31
God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.
    Acts 8:22
Repent, therefore, of this wickedness of yours, and pray to the Lord that, if possible, the intent of your heart may be forgiven you.
    Acts 17:30
The times of ignorance God overlooked, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent.
    Acts 20:21
Testifying both to Jews and to Greeks of repentance toward God and of faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.
    Acts 26:20
But declared first to those in Damascus, then in Jerusalem and throughout all the region of Judea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, performing deeds in keeping with their repentance.
    James 5:19-20
My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back, let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.
    Luke 15:7
Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.
    Luke 15:10
Just so, I tell you, there is joy before the angels of God over one sinner who repents.
    Acts 11:18
When they heard these things they fell silent. And they glorified God, saying, “Then to the Gentiles also God has granted repentance that leads to life.”
    2 Corinthians 7:9-10
As it is, I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because you were grieved into repenting. For you felt a godly grief, so that you suffered no loss through us. For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death.
    Luke 13:3
No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.
    Romans 2:4-5
Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God's kindness is meant to lead you to repentance? But because of your hard and impenitent heart you are storing up wrath for yourself on the day of wrath when God's righteous judgment will be revealed.
    Hebrews 6:4-6
For it is impossible, in the case of those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, and have shared in the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the age to come, and then have fallen away, to restore them again to repentance, since they are crucifying once again the Son of God to their own harm and holding him up to contempt.
    Hebrews 12:17
For you know that afterward, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no chance to repent, though he sought it with tears.
    1 John 1:6
If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.
    Revelation 2:5
Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent.
    Revelation 2:16
Therefore repent. If not, I will come to you soon and war against them with the sword of my mouth.
    Revelation 3:3
Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If you will not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come against you.

When I was first I really did inherit to calvinistic views of predestination of election. I no longer am a calvinist anymore. I still attend a calvinist church and debate this topic quite a bit with the elders and pastors of my church. When it comes down to it I don't feel that this battle is really worth the time and effort because even a calvinist doesn't know who the elect are versus who is not elect so the preaching has to be to everyone anyway. I also think it depends on the individual when I became a calvinist it was because the order of my regeneration two believing in Christ. I spoke to God for the first time in 30 years, was then regenerated in an absolutely supernatural event, which caused me to go to the and read. The scriptures for the first time ever in my life made sense to me and I professed Christ is my Lord and Savior a few days later. That's not going to be for everyone and that's why I'm not a calvinist because all of our stories are different.

If you are not a calvinist, to stay in a church that teaches such a flaw in the character of God is to your harm.
God so loved the world, this is a fact. Whosoever believeth is also a fact. God has given to every man a measure of faith. Mans pride will cause him to take that bit of faith and avoid its benifit because he loves his sin. Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God. All scripture is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. A mans faith comes from hearing God's word so that the small measure God gave him may grow and thereby produce repentance.
God doesn't needmen to go to hell to bring glory to himself. This is flawed thinking and understanding of God. God is asea (if I spelled it correctly) . That simply means that he doesn't need anything to add to his being God and nothing can take away from him and make him less than he is. The fact is that God is God. He isn't dependent upon anything, period. He is almighty. It is man that needs him.
My advice, find a true church, one who's doctrine is the same as the apostles.
The Gospel is the power of God unto salvation.

20 years ago I studied deeply into Calvinism and at the time concluded I was a three-point calvinist. I've been slowly drifting away from that stance while looking into lordship salvation. After watching this video I'm totally convinced all five points of Calvinism are absolutely biblically false. The scriptures chosen here totally dismantled every point of TULIP.

I was also becoming something like a 3 point calvinist. I think what confused me the most was the teaching about works as evidence for salvation. The reason I was deceived is because the Bible does mention the fruit of the spirit, so it made sense to me at the time. But then I grew really introspective, constantly examining myself for evidence of salvation, finding that I was coming up short every time and always would bc holiness requires 100% perfection. It was torchure. It destroyed my mental health. I'm still trying to repair the damage, but glad to be getting back to the true Gospel I learned as a child. Through faith in Christ alone

Child of God, I too have been deceived of understanding the believers position as an adoptive child of God. One area that has given me peace and joy over a tortured soul was in Ephesians chapter 1. I see now that the false doctrines of lordship following of Jesus Christ are being applied to our state in the flesh. This can wreak havoc to the life of the child of God. I pray you study carefully the scriptures here. You may begin to see that once you become His child you are like the thread of a needle, with Jesus Christ being the needle. All our spiritual blessings are IN CHRIST. Chosen in Him. The second we put our faith in Him, God made us a new spiritual creation. A new thread and the Holy Spirit threaded that thread in Christ, the needle. After that God's plan is to reveal to us all the great things He HAS DONE FOR US as new creatures. With God, it is always what He has done, never on what we have done or should do. He alone has prepared the way for us from the foundation of the world and He wants us to see the complete plan so we can have complete assurance and not have doubts and worries. Consider every time He uses the Scriptures IN HIM and our understanding of His marvelous substitutionary sacrifice has done for us. We are His workmanship created IN CHRIST JESUS. The Holy Spirit baptised us into Christ, a union that cannot be severed. We are sealed. We are grafted into the body of Christ. The church. We sit back and learn about all the blessings HE ALONE HAS DONE FOR US. I pray His Words of Truth will open up our eyes more and more from the many lies that Satan has for distracting us from knowing the glorious blessings that God has provided to those IN CHRIST.

I dont know what to rhink. I tbought i was saved and got upset with Him and walked away for several years, but went back. But now i wonder if i was saved even though i couldnt get enough bible back then. I have felt drawn off and on all my life. I repent almost daily trying to feel saved. Its driving me crazy. I feel defeated. Never found but one baptist church that seemed to have love for the brethren. But we moved 200 miles away and tried another for 5 or 6 years and never was allowed to be a true part of the church. Maybe because we are from the city and this is a very small town. I dont know. Im so scared now because i am so confused. I know God is not the author of confusion. But do i go baptist or reformed baptist or calvanism? I hope this helps. Off to listen.

We are saved by our faith (alone) in what Jesus did - not what we have (or have not) done. Period. Ephesians 2:8-9 says: 'For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.' If anyone tells you that your good works can save you they are deceiving you. Salvation is a gift. All we have to do is receive it (believe). Then our position in Christ is secure for all eternity. He said 'It is finished' meaning it is paid in full. 1 John 5:13 says: 'These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.' We all sin and we all continue to sin. Our carnal (self) nature is still at war with our new (born again) spiritual nature. Jesus has already won the victory over sin, the devil, and death and He has made us righteous and take n our sin on himself. We are declared righteous even though we still sin. Don't beat yourself up. Just believe John 3:16. The thief on the cross just believed. Everyone who waters down the gospel and makes it a work or our own efforts is preaching a false gospel. Jesus is your saviour. Believe the good news. His grace is so amazing. All religion seeks to get there by their own efforts somehow or they add stuff and pollute the truth. The book of Galatians warns against these false gospels and says they have fallen from grace. Buy this guys books or download them. He is correct. God bless you. Forget reformed theology, it is error. I am a pastor. Trust me. I used to listen to Paul Washer years ago then I realised he is a Lordship salvation teacher. Lordship Salvation teaches you have to have Jesus Lord of every single part of your life or you are not saved. It's all about your works. If your salvation is dependent on you and all you are doing is looking at your own performance then you have completely missed the boat. We are to be fixing our eyes on Jesus, not ourselves. Hebrews 12:2. Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

I find your opinion that 10% of humanity will be saved very interesting since I have heard that 10% represents a remnant. Thank you so much for addressing Calvinism. My church has gone the way of Calvinism and it absolutely breaks my heart. I try my best not to be abrasive when I in Sunday School, but when my Sunday school teacher’s wife replied “it is a mystery” when I expressed my refusal of a point of Calvinism we were discussing in class, I just wanted to say no it is a lie! A former SS teacher’s wife made the bold statement when it was clear I was not buying into this Calvinism that if you are not a Calvinist, you are an Arminian and Arminians are going to hell. I just sat there in shock. I didn’t even know what Arminianism was. Once I searched what that was, I realized she was totally wrong. I’m not a Calvinist or an Arminian. For a while, until I found channels like Soteriology 101, I didn’t know what to call myself except “old school Baptist”. Thanks again for this message. I will definitely be listening to more.

EXACT same thing happened to me. I went 50 years into my life not knowing what Calvinism was, then it just smacked me in the face. It was obvious to me that if Calvinism was true, then God is the author of sin. That is the logical conclusion to Calvinism, and I just can't throw something at it like, "It's a mystery". The only "mystery" spoken of in the bible is HOW did God come as a human, in the form of Jesus Christ, WHO existed from eternity? How can we understand the nature and essence of a triune God? That is the only "mystery" spoken of in the bible.
WE believe God because He proved His love for us, in the person of Jesus Christ, dying for our sins, so that we can have a relationship with Him thru His Spirit. How is this possible? It's a mystery. That's it. There is no mystery how God can love EVERYBODY, but then Calvinists say God chose only a few for salvation. Then God doesn't love everybody. No mystery there.

AMEN... NOT ENOUGH PASTORS UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS SERMON.... They either do not understand how to preach it, or they are afraid to touch the 3rd rail for the sake of 'unity'.... But they leave their members unprepared to counter the Calvinist prooftexts and carefully crafted arguments. If Calvinists ever gain a foothold of leadership in a body of believers, they will never offer the same grace which they enjoyed to those who disagree with them. It becomes 'my way or the highway' rather quick. And many will lie about their 'doctrine' in order to gain positions of leadership. ... Stealth Calvinism is a 'thing' which is destroying many churches.

I forgot to add, too, that this is how to let the Bible define and explain itself:
Who are the chosen, elect, the saints, the predestined?
•Israel chosen Isa 41:8-9, 44:1; Deut 7:6 (holy ones, “saints,” to be a special people), 14:1-2 (also you are the children of the Lord your God)
    •Elect Isa 45:4; Ps 135:4
•Foreknown Rom 11:1-2, which then explains Rom 8:29-30
Use free Bible software to do word studies. Look up a word to see all that God says about it. As the pastor said, use the easy and plain verses to inform the more difficult ones. This is a great tool!

Calvinists don't receive a specific list or definitive knowledge of who is predestined and who isn't. The doctrine of predestination, as understood within Calvinism, is based on the belief that God has chosen certain individuals for salvation according to His will, not based on human actions or merit.
Calvinists believe that God's election or predestination is a hidden decree. They don't have direct access to this information in their present lives. Instead, they might look for signs or indications in their own lives, such as faith, good works, and perseverance, as potential indicators that they might be among the elect. However, these are not guarantees but rather potential reflections of God's grace working within them.
Certainty about one's predestination isn't attainable according to Calvinist doctrine. They rely on faith in God's sovereignty and trust in His plan for salvation, recognizing that the ultimate knowledge of who is predestined rests with God alone.

So then what you have described as being the Calvinistic doctrine.
Leaves individuals WITHOUT any total assurance that they are GUARANTEED eternal life.
      Whereas 1 John 5:10-13.
      10. He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.
      11. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
      12. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
      13. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

My church teaches fruit as the evidence for salvation. I'm not really comfortable with it bc I know where it leads. The confusion I have is that the scriptures tell us about the fruit of the spirit. Can someone explain the difference?

    • @jjsmoley
      @jjsmoley 2 года назад +7

      Galatians 5:
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.
Once you have trusted Christ as your Savior, God wants you to follow his will in your life. His will is to act like Jesus did manifesting those fruits listed in Galatians 5:22-23. In other words do good and not evil. However, doing good is not a requirement to being saved or a requirement to staying saved. Once we are saved we still have a free will to either do good or do evil (commit sin). But because we accept Jesus' payment for our sin, doing evil does not revoke that payment. We are saved forever once we have trusted Christ.
You can see this whole plan in 3 simple verses.
      Ephesians 2:
8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
First, notice that salvation is through faith in God and not in ourselves.
Second notice that God wants us to do good works after we are saved, but it's not a requirement (notice the word SHOULD in vs 10, it doesn't say MUST or WILL, but rather we should).

@@jjsmoley thank you. That makes sense. It got really confusing learning these things through calvinism bc I know that the Holy Spirit does help bring about these things in our lives. It had me confused for a really long time

@@Liam0408 You are getting the false teaching of having 'fruit' to prove you are saved from Matthew 7. You need to start at verse 15 because the passage is about how to recognize false prophets. The fruit of a false prophet is his false doctrine. I don't think I heard any comments on Psalm 65:4, 78:67-72, Acts 13:48, John 3:58, Luke 10:22, John 6:44, Romans 8:28-30 or the entire 9th chapter of Romans. Pastor Tom, while obviously well-meaning, seems to be getting very close to advocating a universalist point of view. No salesman knows who his next customer will be, so he knocks on all doors. We don't know who the elect are, so we give our testimonies to anyone whom the Holy Spirit inclines us to. But God does know who will be saved and who will not based on His will. That's why it's called grace.

    • @celiasleigh2805
      @celiasleigh2805 Месяц назад

Actually there's more reason to believe in universalism if you have Calvinistic beliefs. I was raised by a Calvinist and right after I got saved and was coming out of Calvinism I did come to the conclusion that if it was true and all of Scripture was true then universalism would have to be true. Scripture says God will for all the be saved. So if he chose and made it happen it would just be everyone. But as scripture say it's through faith and we must choose to believe him. Not everyone believes so clearly universalism isn't true.

God loving Jacob and hating Esau has nothing to do with the human emotions of love and hate. It has everything to do with God choosing one man and his descendants and rejecting another man and his descendants. God chose Abraham out of all the men in the world. The Bible very well could say, “Abraham I loved, and every other man I hated.” God chose Abraham’s son Isaac instead of Abraham’s son Ishmael. The Bible very well could say, “Isaac I loved, and Ishmael I hated.” Romans chapter 9 makes it abundantly clear that loving Jacob and hating Esau was entirely related to which of them God chose.
