    During the 800 meters race, approximately 200 meters into the event, Mu suffered a fall. She was in the middle of the pack when she veered slightly to her left.
    In an unfortunate collision with fellow runner Raevyn Rogers, their feet nearly tangled. The impact threw Mu off-balance, and she tumbled to the ground.
    While Rogers managed to stay upright, Mu struggled to regain her rhythm. By the time she got back up, it was too late to make up significant ground in the race. However, injury issues had sidelined her until the beginning of the track and field trials.
    Probability poor running strategy considering she has long legs and a her gait.

    0:30 - kinda reminds me of the Zapruder Film. I feel sorry for Athing Mu, mostly because Nobody greeted her at the finish line with a consoling hug. Not even Raven Rodgers, the runner who caused the trip and fall.

    Well, the American system has robbed the world of an epic Olympic 800m final...maybe. in a way the Olympic Committee could protect track fans by having some sort of wild card system that would allow, for example, reigning champions to defend their title. Even though I' m a Brit and Athing 's absence in Paris we increase Keely's gold medal chances, I am not happy. Athletic fans deserve to able to see the best of the best competing but unfortunately the Olympic Committee aren't willing to put things in place to make that hapoen

      I fully agree on your point. And why make runners run 3 times just to qualify? Another potential disaster in the making is in the 100m/110m hurdles.

    • @hertor8803
      @hertor8803 15 дней назад +4

      I sort of agree but it is the US choice how they pick their athletes. I don't think the Olympic committee should get involved other than setting qualifying times and I don't agree on a place for people to defend their title. 4 years is a long time and they need to prove themselves again just like everyone else. The trip is unfortunate but so is injury, illness, etc. Who knows, the person who qualifies instead of Mu may end up winning Olympic gold anyway. Not saying there can't be a better system but this is sport and these things happen.

    • @musik102
      @musik102 14 дней назад

      @@hertor8803 Disagree! The Olympic are about the-best-of-the-best but the US often prevent that happening and that is bad for the sport and definitely bad for the fans.

      I think the “solution” might be to have athletes run in their individual lanes longer than just 100 meters. Modern tracks are set up with 3 turn staggered starting lines. There would be fewer “NASCAR Crashes” in the 800m at least.

      Hopefully Phoebe Gill doesn't have similar problems in the GB trials and she wins it in Paris, with Hodgkinson getting ANOTHER silver ;o) The GB trial system seems a bit better with first 2 from the trials + 1 discretionary place BUT the US dominates the Track and Field/Athletics medals so why would they change their system?

    Reminds me of Mary Decker's experience after being tripped, accidently, by Zola Budd in the 1984 1500m Olympic finals.

    • @Dee-vs4hb
      @Dee-vs4hb 14 дней назад +4

      Mary Decker was not tripped. She fell because she tried to overtake Budd on the inside lane. She herself admitted it later. The American media and American people of course went to town and howled that she was tripped.

      From watching the slow mo at NBC, Athing was the only one wearing pink shoes and her left foot did something odd right before she fell. Am sure the refs have more access to videos than we do and we just have to trust their judgment.

    ATHING MU DESERVES TO LOSE... If she did not fall and got left behind by MILES, she will lose anyway... What does she expect? She may be expecting that her "superstar" status can get her to the Paris O. She has not been running competitively, been out of the competition, for the last 9 to 12 months... She barely made it to the semis...! Again, what does she expect? I think its her stubborn, superstar mentality that cost her her defeat... And MU DESERVES IT!

      Check yourself son. Homegirl has been injured for most of this last year. Also, Athing Mu has not made any special requests to be placed on the Olympic team. She knew she was out, that’s why she started crying when she hit the finish line.
