I think I understand the "chesterfield" joke. It's an homage to the Bad News Bears.
In the original Bad News Bears, Walter Mattheu was named Buttermaker. Tatum O'Neil always calls him Boilermaker. A boilermaker is a trashy drink where you drop a whisky shot (while still in the glass) into a beer and chug the whole thing.
Chesterfield is a very old, and kind of trashy, brand of cigarettes. I can imagine a kid might look at Dangerfield in this movie and compare him to a cigarette.

Denver was going to be the new Hollywood... this was the flagship movie for that... so new Hollywood went to Atlanta instead. This movie was so awful it nearly killed a budding movie industry.
