      They are talking about american set plays.Which means stop the game and elaborate a tactic or discuss how they play.In football we don't stop the game to talk to the coach,only at half time.The set pieces in football like corners and freekicks are usually trained before the game that week,each game a different tactic according to the opponent.But we memorize them and play along as in a practiced freestyle.It's not the same as their set plays

    I don't know if I'd say it's 100% improvisation the whole match. You spend so much time drilling scenarios like corners, throw jn's etc that you learn more or less where you and your teammates need to be positioned, and through practice you get to know you teammates habits and you build a sense of timing with each other. A lot like how QBs spend so much time working on routes with receivers, when it comes time to run a hot route they both have a sense of where and when the ball is going to go even if they're not in communication the whole time.

      Pro teams drill tactics and formations every day. Coaches give very specific instructions on positioning and movements - both when in possession and on defense. Not quite as rigid as individual plays in American Football, but definitely more structured than if a bunch of us just play pick up in a park.

    The players train together almost everyday and train to the managers way of playing. There are set pieces like freekicks and corners, mainly dead ball situations, where the plays are set in place to get a goal. Other than that the players are managed and coached to play a certain way, certain formation, each coach has their own style. Communication and teamwork on the pitch is what’s used to beat the opponent. Not exactly freestyle but being coached a certain way to be better than the opposing team and break them down using the managers tactics.

    How they know is not only by communicating by talking, you also need to have good sense of awareness to know who's around you. If you look closely at the 11:22 clip the player in blue (Modric) looks over his shoulder to see who's around him and as for who receives the ball they also need to be focused on the game and be ready to act. The best players in the world always have good awareness and are always ready to pounce when they see an opportunity

    The thing is with soccer is that there is no stoppage of the clock which happens in basketball and football when the ball is out of bounds. When the ball is out of bounds in the 2 American sports players and coaches have time to communicate whiteout the other team hearing. In soccer when the ball is out of bounds the goal is pretty much to get the ball on the field as fast as possible again. But with all that said these soccer players work hours upon hours on how they want to defend, when to pressure and when not to pressure and if they do pressure every player on the team knows exactly what to do, so there is no free freestyle just do whatever at the proffesional level at least. It doesn't matter how individually good the players actually are if they aren't tactically drilled to play offence and defence a curtain way. Proffesional a would expose them quickly. The reason soccer is such a brilliant sport is because they all have such a high soccer iq at the highest level. They comprehend what they practice on the practice field and put that into game situations. Mind you there are no set plays and nobody is screaming out a play. It's about being creative and knowing your teammates and recognising patterns in the game. No situation in soccer is the same, the defenders will never be in the exact position you want them to be to be able do a set play and make it work. That's why the best teams always have a couple of passing options so the player on the ball can choose who he wants to pass to depending on what the defence does. It's complex but really interesting when you dive into it. The only place where you will see pre planned plays as you see in American football is when the ball is dead. Meaning the offensive team has a corner, throw in or free kick, why? Because you have time to communicate without the other team hearing or knowing

    13:00, you were wondering why he was running while looking behind. That's called "jockeying" the attacker. Now, depending on where you are on the pitch, jockeys might be done differently, but the defenders usually face the attacker and force him onto his weaker foot and just shut the attacker down as much as possible. But in that case, he was jockeying like that because he was one of the last men in the defense and R9 had space to run on the left side, wherein if R9 did, he would've been easily beat if his back was facing the open space.
    He was also marking his right side because there was a man who could receive the ball and that could be an opportunity for either intercepting the pass or an easier set to help the other defender guarding the open man in case he had a bad first touch if ever the ball did go through to the open man. Now that we have the logic out of the way, skill comes in, and we know R9 is deadly, so defender was probably shitting 😂

    • @darrenjeremysantos1695
      @darrenjeremysantos1695 3 года назад

      And, yeah. Open play is literally open play. That's what sets great teams apart from the usual ones. They are able to play amazing football frequently. You have great players who communicate well and are capable of pulling off the coach's/manager's philosophy/style of the game. At the end of the day, the game is still 11v11 no matter how great of a player you are, you are still only 1.

  • @captaincrog8181
    @captaincrog8181 3 года назад

    Football players spend a LOT of time together. You’ve not only got training sessions throughout the week when they’re not playing but you have pre-season too.. The more game time you play with one another, the more you learn about each other’s game so there’s chemistry even when they don’t communicate as much. Now with no fans in the stadiums, you can hear them talking/shouting to one another during the game.
    When someone steps over the ball, pretending they’re receiving the pass, they’ve normally got a shout from a teammate behind “dummy”, which basically means pretend you’re getting the ball but don’t actually take it.
    As for set pieces.. There is “set plays” and tactics involved with corner kicks and free kicks that have been organised before the game, the manager and coaching staff will discuss strategies but if they’re not working, or the player taking the corner sees a better option available, they’ll “freestyle” the set piece to try to take advantage of the weakness they’ve spotted and of course, score a goal. Occasionally players will receive a note from the sidelines, from the coaching staff that has instructions on it, the staff at the side of the pitch have spotted a vulnerability they may be able to exploit and thus pass the message on to the players.
    Hopefully that helps a little. Lol. Love the channel, Dread Lock Squad in the house!! ❤️❤️

    There’s set pieces for corner kicks and freekicks and then there’s style of play which depends on the team formation and could be either possession based( having majority time with the ball), counter attacking based( wait for the opponent to make a mistake to then counter attack as quickly as possible , high pressure (trying to recover the ball as quickly as possible), or many other style of plays depending on who’s the manager might come up with and this is basically their set plays, this is what they train on in trainings a lot of the time to master a style of play, but at the same time be ready to change up the style of play if something isn’t going as expected

    In terms of set plays, when taking a corner or free kick there are essentially plays we run and the same applies for defending them. During the match if you need a goal back you can change the formation you are playing to have an extra attacker at the price of losing a defender. You can also chose to play longer balls to a big striker or have wide defenders (full backs) pushing up the pitch more to make more space and get crosses into the box. We call these 'tactics' but they are pretty much the same thing as set plays.

    Actual set pieces are for free kicks and corners. During play, it isn't so much them running "plays" but running different tactics. Examples being: width of play, speed and length of passes, how high/low you play on the pitch, closing down(defending) pressure, etc. And different positions get different instructions per what tactic they're running. Hope this helps.

    @npmorettin 3 года назад

    Also @12:08 when you're talking set plays, there are plays for corners and throw ins kinda can have some, but not usually. During the run of play, the coach has instilled their own "tactics" on how each player should play and what they should do in each situation, in regards to how he wants them to play as a "belief" and in regards to the next opposition. 11 guys on a pitch always know where the other players "should" be at any given time if they're doing what they should be doing.

    In Scenarios where a goal is needed right, late in the game, they do change the number of players who go forward for corners/Free Kicks, there aren't any sort of plays in football because Set plays are really hard to implement. All of it is concepts being taught and applied by the players, the managers can't exactly talk to every player in the match because A)the ground is to big and shouting out what you want them to do is counter productive. B) there are no timeouts besides the recently added drinks break which is like 1 per game. Manager end up shouting at them to do better but wait till half time to discuss tactics and strategies. In terms of how players know that someone is behind them, its a combination of understanding and reading. e.g A player is a few meters/yards away from you but hits a really powerful pass, in that moment you realise the pass isn't intended for you otherwise it would be softer, you avoid it and it goes to the player behind you. Other times though, you are receiving a pass and know there is someone behind you, this is because you have played so much with the formation/tactic that you start to know where everyone is at certain points in the game so of course you can just jump over the ball and get into a better position.

      I get that yeah, like most of the game of football is free style really, I don't know what to tell you, like its almost all players plus ball. In terms of getting on the same page, in football being on the same page isnt as important in attack but is very important in defence. Not everyone plays tiki taka, only really smart and good players can pull it off so other times just try to find the open man.

    How much of the play is pre-trained depends on the manager aswell. There are almost always corner and free kick routines. Defending is also quite tactical. But in attack some managers drill specific runs and patterns of play (circuits) beforehand, others prefer to just create the best environment for their best individual players to shine and be creative

    A lot of how soccer is played is based on concepts. Players are free to improvise but within the system. Plays are run in corner kicks and free kicks. In open play, players need to know where they need to be and know what took look for in order to exploit the opposition's defense. It kinda like basketball. Teams have a system they run whether it be based on ball movement, running the break or whatever they run. For example, in basketball, the triangle offense is based on ball movement and post-ups, but players like Kobe and MJ had the freedom to isolate on the wings, shoot fadeaway jumpers, or whatever else they were great at. Soccer is kinda like that, but more like the Warriors because it seems like they don't run plays most of the time, but Steve Kerr says they run a lot of the Triangle offense.

    Goalies come out in 1v1s in order to reduce the area needed to be covered to stop a shot on goal. Of course some times it works and sometimes we get dribbled or outran. In 1v1 situations we have no advantage either we a sucessfully read a shot or we’re left in the dust. Feel free to watch videos on goalkeepers there’s some legendary goalies bound to impress you !

    Its not just communication these guys know the team shape and roles too. They know who should be where at what time depending on where the ball is. Like if the left back makes a run pass the left midfielder. He knows that midfielder has to cover behind him so he could give a no look pass if he wants. I hope this kind of helps

    Yall got to remember that the nature of soccer is completely different tha American sports. The game is continous, the clock don't stop ticking no matter faul, corner, free-kick, out of bonds, etc. So it's 45 minutes no breaks, no time-out. Add that to the fact, that you only have 3 sub per game (so once a player is subbed out, he's not coming back in and when one is subbed in, he's staying till the end of the game ). That means you can't rest your star player for the 4th or quickly sub in/out a free kick specialist.With all that in mind, set pieces are just not possible in 11 v 11. It is in Futsal though (which yall should try watching cause it's 5 v 5 and more technical).
    And also don't forget yall are "just" watching compilation. The skills you see there aren't as often as you might believe. Goals aren't as easy to get as TD's and even less as buckets in basket-ball. 3-2 is huge score and it's "only" 5 goals in 90 minutes (21-14 if it were american football).
    The best way to get a fill of the sport is to watch a full high-quality game ( like a man city- liverpool) AND trying to play yourself so that you'll see the level of difficulty of things spectators take for granted like passes, control, position etc

    Soccers X’s and O’s have more to do with a team system than designed plays like basketball and football. Each team has a different system that they use depending on the players at their disposal. Even each individual league has its own unique style of play. I’d say soccer is like a mix of triangle offense, seven seconds and lakers showtime. Hope this helps. Keep up the good work from California.

    There are no set plays as such but there are set pieces = free kicks, corners, throw ins. Also there is in game formations and tatics. Formation wise some teams play 4-3-3 some play 4-5-1 etc. Tatics wise some teams play high press, some play counter attack and the not so good teams might play 10 men behind the ball. Alot of the time teams change formation and tatics in the game
