  • As part of my job, I have to keep up to date with what's happening in hip surgery research. A lot of it is very 'dry' but here's a quick update on some interesting and relevant studies. We'll look at research on robots, waiting times and s e x! I hope you enjoy it. As always, if you have any questions or comments, please leave them below, or get in touch!

You talked about hip replacement in such a kind, positive life changing event. Over here in the states, my husband just had hip replacement 9 days ago, after severe pain for about 2 months. We had a wonderful older surgeon Dr, Knox, he sure didn't use a robot, he was a surgeon like you he honed his skill to help the patients. His care in the hospital was hit miss and scary. Coming out after recovery to his room he was in Pain, later that night a nurse came in and pulled catheter out, which was to stay in till next day!!! Then he went 11 hours without pain med, he thought it was with all the pills he was given, found out the nurses can NOT SAY do you need a pain pill. They came in asked what his pain level was, his reply 5 and the nurse would go? Hospitals dont want to get sued, the patients MUST ASK. Thanks for reeding all of this. Susan

Thanks for your comment. I'm sorry to hear about your husband's care. I would certainly tell Dr Knox what happened. He would want to know how his patients are managed after surgery and take steps to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Cape Town, South Africa...I am turning 58 in February. I was placed on the waiting list for a hip surgery in August 2022 after attending our local Day Hospital since January 2022. I don't want to talk about the pain. It is too much. My X-rays showed that my hip is very bad...the first doctor whom looked at my X-rays was so shocked to see the condition of my hip...she asked me "o my word...did you fall...your hip looks very bad" that was in January 2022. I just pray that I receive a date very soon. The constant pain can drive you crazy at times.
All of the best with your recovery to everyone whom have undergone hip surgeries recently🌹
