Andy is a quality patriot. As a older veteran (Vietnam), it is so great to see someone who is smart and patriotic. Our country is great because of guys like Andy.
A clip of an interview with Joe Rogan brought me here, Andy talked for almost 15 minutes with minimal interaction with Joe; he was so engaging and made me want to hear more from him.
Andy Stumph is one of the best interviews out there . So simple , no gung-ho look at what I’ve done . Very modest and funny , the way he articulates his experiences is second to none . Great podcast guys
I love his show, but I also love the fungus ho guys. I just like good interviewers and intelligent discussion I guess. We are lucky to have several great podcasts to listen to while working etc.
My dad was on the SWAT team i grew up in shoot houses. He now had PTSD and TBI people do not realize the sacrifices they make. Ive only recently come to really understand him and who he is and his alcohol problem through all of these different operator interviews since he doesnt share much.
This man is truly a humble person. I'm glad to hear his words of wisdom. I'm sure that if you asked his team mates they would talk about what a great man and team he truly is....
Andy just may be the most incredible speaker in the military community as a whole. I know the SEALs don't appreciate the "writers" or "self-promoters" within their community. I understand this 100%. One particular guy stands out that destroys the "silent professionals" and "team" idea. That aside, if he ever wrote a book, i'd buy out in a heartbeat.
@anthonylewis9256 If Andy Stumpf is not humble, then I'm not sure you could find one humble person on Planet Earth if you searched for the next millennia...
To the host: thankyou very much for asking your questions and letting your guest talk and talk and talk without interruption. Kudos to you sir. Love listening to him go on and on.
Same it took me awhile. He quickly mentioned he went undergo selection on the east coast and a light bulb went through my head, lol. Confidence is quiet, right?
He talks about it kind of a lot but not in the sense that you think. He uses military lingo and hints like "east coast command", "green team" when referring to selection. Just put it this way he went through selection in 2000 or 2001.
Andy is a shining example of being humble. You dont get to be a Tier 1 operator of any branch and be a C- or C, but he consistently grades himself as such and it's refreshing. Even at the bleeding edge he sought constant improvement and that's a great lesson for everyone.
23:54 - It goes to show you how small the Special Operations Community is. Didn't know Andy and Tyler Grey got wounded on the same target, and shared hospital rooms after! They should totally link up on one of their podcasts.
The mark of a true professional is humility. Way too many times egos hold you back from the highest levels of proficiency. I notice the same working with fellow Marines. “Pride cometh before a fall”...and you know Marines are proud. Humility brings a confidence that pride never will IMO. Nothing wrong with being proud as long as it doesn’t cloud your perspective and humility. Fantastic interview
After spending 32 years at JEB Little Creek and DevGru Dam Neck in a strictly DON support capacity I am always impressed with the drive and dedication of these warriors. I am proud to say that many of these guys are friends all the way back to the days of playing racquetball with Rudy Boesch at Rockwell Hall. These warriors truly are the best of the best.
I feel that gravitational pull that you describe. Had felt it since I was younger than I can remember, from taking my dads garrison cap to school or re-enacting battles in the woods by myself I always knew I wanted to join the military. I have a very similar story to all the guys that I listen to, that have had the fortune to join special operations, about their upbringing and motivations for joining. Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with type 1 juvenile diabetes when I was 10. I remember being in the e.r. waiting to get transferred to the children's hospital and that was one of the first things my parents told me was that I wasnt going to be able to join the military. I have really struggled my entire life since that diagnosis trying to redirect that passion that I felt towards serving into anything else. It's led to a lot of depression in my life. I relate a lot to guys who were injured and medically retired who talk about being frustrated, and lost, and how they suffer identity crisis. Seeing that a lot of them have been able to find outlets outside of the military that have been successful is encouraging that maybe some day I will as well. However, I still feel that gravitational pull and a sense of great loss and it's hard sometimes. Thanks for sharing and producing this content.
After listening to/following/watching Andy for so long I don’t know how I missed that he was a part of Tier One. What a badass and an excellent public speaker. 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
This guy's great. Appreciate his intelligence and humility. Not to say that that isn't the norm but his talk about respecting life even when taking it is great.
The key to a good interview begins with the interviewer. The art of the question, flowing with it all and above all else: listening well. Anyway, nice work.....
I have loved Andy for years but I do wonder if he would be so candid about the failure of his marriage and the failure of his relationship with his oldest son. Growth is important and I would love to hear how he approached his familial relationships and how he worked through them. Thank you for putting Andy in a position to help others grow. He’s a great man!!! (Fyi- 50 y/o female here.)❤❤❤
I can’t wait to see his life change even more as he advances in Jiu Jitsu. I’ve got a black belt and am fully confident that a man of his caliber will be so much better than I ever could be.
Mr. Andy Stumpf is very intelligent, articulate, has good command of grammar, yet humble. I love that he is clean shaven when most men nowadays are sporting a beard and mustache. Some men look really dirty and unkempt with it. Not everyone looks good in a beard or even a mustache. The love and passion he feels toward the Navy Seal bring honour to the SEAL community. Thank you for serving our Country Mr. Andy Stumpf. GOD bless you and yours.
As a professional in Emergencies, I didn't like hearing the talk about how little doctors know. Andy knows that knowledge is limited and we learn so much from combat medicine. The years of time and monetary sacrifice are to gain the skills necessary to learn how to treat humans. By the way, you are a true professional. Love your content and subscribed!
When I mess up I own it. However, I admit I avoid adversity because I’m afraid of making a mistake. I get in my own way. I hope that I can change that over time.
He confirmed what I always suspected of a "committee" with expertise. I can be in charge of the committee and not have all the answers, but there is always a couple guys that know a particular subject matter better than anybody.
If I woke up in a 2022 war zone and Andy was there, I would defer all movements to him. I grew up in 90's Sydney Australia which had both frag and stray round potentiality. Not as bad now in this town but I've travelled abit :)
When I heard Tyler tell the story I think he said the terrorist detonated a bomb but Andy is saying it was their breaching charge. I don’t know what to think. Both stories are crazy though
Great guest and LOVED the interview! I would just say the interviewer kept repeating a lot of things and didn't seem to catch the flow of the conversation, he would just automatically ask a question and move on based on his notes and really not digest what Andy was saying. However, great job and hope that helps :)
