silicone pots great for camping/packing......if you use at home find some aluminum black anodized they transfer heat the best and works for fastest cook and best slow cook use terracotta painted flat black
Hey Instinct Survivalist. Nice video here. Thanks for sharing. I've got a question. Have you tried using the Solar cooker with like a cast iron skillet?
Through numerous videos I have researched Cast Iron is too thick. Best to use black thin-walled pots like silicone. Do not use Aluminum (Silver) pots. Black Enamelware is good too.
i have one of these and experimented regularily through the years@@floeaton285 .....aluminum i think works best i have black anodized alum pota and pans hat are kinda thick black enamelware is good for longer cooks.....for longer cooking though i like terracotta pans/lids painted flat black for nice even cook
Thanks for watching. Sorry it didn’t make it to video. I can blame editing for leaving it out. The needle went slightly higher than 300. I’m sure if I did it again, here, in the Rocky Mountains, it would burn up :) too close to the sun.
@@instinctsurvivalist i live in denver i got temps close to 300 if i would let it set out longer on those hot late june all day sun beatings im sure i can get 400 degrees.....this summer alot o rain though....weird summer like we had over 10years ago daily rain anyways......i had one for years and do alot of cooking keep the heat out of my kitchen......but even in aluminum its imossible to get a good sear on these so i usually "pre-cook" my big stuff all day and finish off on grill or frying pan.......the object to me is not to heat up kitchen and let my fans and ac work less hard.....in winter i will warm water and sand to make my furnace and water heater work less hard
@andrewsolano9172 I like the idea of cooking then finishing it. I would be surprised if I could get a sear here in western Montana. Y’all have had some seriously crazy weather followed closely by ours. It’s just been a weird summer overall. Thanks for the tip and for watching.
Hi! I see it's been over a year since this review. How does this measure up now? I built my own, but it was too small for my Dutch oven. Seeing the prices on these simple devices, I think I'll build again, but a bit larger. Do you have experience with the thin cookware like what comes with the New Sun Oven. I'm skeptical about using silicone since it is so dangerous when those breast implants leaked years ago. I'm not trying to be funny, but I am an old 60+ old woman. That photo is almost 30 years ago! Has the zipper and plastic held up? It probably is really a short-term survival item...
It has held up really well. Still a huge fan of the oven and cook with it every chance I can. As for the cookware, definitely preference. I like the compactness of the silicone but think I like the thin metal overall. Thanks!
Cecilie Christian the silicone in breast implants was liquid not solid silicone. When solid as in this cookware it is inert and as such does not dissolve into your food. The liquid silicone in breast implants was migrating through women’s bodies as it doesn’t get broken down by the body’s enzymes and was thus very harmful.
the zipper on mine leaves a tiny hole because it doesnt close completely.......i use one of them heavy duty paper clips with black grabbing surface.....works chingon
LOL! True. As far as temperature goes, it really breaks down to the sun itself. The thermostat goes to 300 and water boils just shy of that. The premise is slow and low...so sweet spot is around 250 degrees.
Absolutely a great product. Sure, might take some time, but worth it in the end. I loved the soft boiled egg. I'm not going to mention the muffin, or I'll start watering at the mouth. Haha! (Damn you, sweet tooth!)
I didn't know how to set it up. Your video helped me a lot. Thanks. I've had it on a shelf for5 years. Opened the box for the first time today!
Glad to be of help. Great product to set and forget. Kind of like a sun driven crock pot :)
Enjoy and feel free to let me know how it goes.
5 years ago but I just found out about this! I'm sold! Will get mine now! Good video. Thanks & yes, I subscribed.
Nice! And thanks for subscribing.
Your dog, Phil, is a wisecracker... lol! The funny part is the eggs and your dog gave the look of "yeah, whatever buddy"... lol
Yeah, he is spoiled and just kind of goes with the flow. I feel his whole life is "yeah, whatever buddy". Thanks for watching. -- Bill
The portability is a huge bonus
+Prepared 2 Thrive true. Folds to the size of a laptop or haversack. Light too.
It’s the only advantage of this one-the fact that you could strap it to a backpack.
Do you know where you can you buy extra silicone pots? Could not find extras on Amazon.
They have them on their site. PLUS: amzn.to/2XMfnTs or amzn.to/2XMfsqe would be good ones that would work as well. Thanks for watching.

Thank you for the video. It was very informative.
My pleasure
It ran up to 300 deg. F? On the vid it never showed more than 200.

Great presentation sir!
Thanks!
@@instinctsurvivalist , just ordered me two. Getting ready for hurricane's, will be a great addition to my preparedness kit.
Nice!
Nice presentation, thank you.
Thank you so much for the kind words and thank you for watching.
Thank you. Great post!
Thank you.
This looks like what you’d see in the seventies people using around their head to supposedly increase their tanning. How hot could it really get?

I just bought the deluxe version.

LOL! Thanks brother. It was definitely fun.
I have three. 1 regular two large.
That’s fantastic! We were just actually talking about getting a few more.
you maybe missing cream cheese icing or some other icing....as well as the milk....heh
Hmm. Might need to do it again then :)
Poor dog-no bite of egg for you!

Use your brain. No sharp knife 🗡. What's your excuse?
Not sure what you mean. Thanks for watching though.
@@instinctsurvivalist that you're using a knife and telling us not to use a knife. Just a paradox
ah. more cautionary due to the container being silicone and easily cut. Thanks for setting me straight.
