First time seeing this, I thought Smile was calling Kazama a monster for his skill, but after finding out how skilled Smile actually is, it makes more sense that he's calling Kazama a monster for his willingness to crush Wenge's hopes of going back home. Next level deepness.
I was watching the Olympics today, mixed doubles ping pong, China vs Japan. Team china was wearing black uniforms with a blazing purple dragon across the shirt. I'm wondering if they liked this scene too.
An extraordinary masterpiece, one of the handful of top Japanese animations. I also recommend the Russian animation Tale of Tales, while beyond animation the greatest film of all time is Sansho the Bailiff, from Japan.
It's interesting that the sound when Kazama hits sounds similar to the jet engine of a plane. Very fitting thematically for Kong Wenge, if heartbreaking.
Because nobody loses, finally. The hero uses the villain as a trampoline and they are both grateful for one another. If everyone was like a bit more like Peco, these would be common Ws.
This one is better in my opinion. You really get to feel the power of Kazama and the complete desperation in Kong. It was so masterfully done. The art/ animation and the music harmonized beautifully too.
I wouldn't say underrated but definetly under-appreciated. Too many people overlook this great show just because of the visuals which are surely unappealing at first but once you got into it they fit very well and it grows on you, and because of the sheer fact that it is a sports anime. That's sad because Ping Pong is the best anime this season, probably also of the year and easily one of the best anime I have seen so far.
CanIgotosleepnow1 this is the first anime with the most authentic northern Chinese I seen in an anime . Well it is one of the first I even seen to include foreign countries realistically . I was really happy with that. And they capture each frame with a strong sense of angles and perspective. (Which from a person studying art appreciates) ONE OF THE BEST ANIME .. but with a quick end (probably because everyone into anime can only accept a similar stylized art style)

I'm Japanese, but he was my favorite character too. I teared up a bit when he lost against peco. So I don't think the being Chinese part matters. He's just a really good character.
The loose animation lets the animators exaggerate every frame as much as possible. The amount of energy and movement they convey is almost unrivaled in animation.

This anime is so underrated... It's something different and special that's probably why ;). Either way it's greatly executed only problem is the time shifts moving the story so fast. They could make some fillers or anything 6 episodes is around 1 year or more... Would be more enjoyable if they extend it somehow. It either starts in half of year which is stupid because nobody knows nobody (maybe peco/smile moved to new school at half of school year? or school year in japan is executed differently) or it starts on the beggining of school year and 6 episodes took us to second christmas ergo 1,5 year. That's only bommer about this anime ;p.
Yeah American Football is almost a symptom of our nation's violence, big sweaty dudes just ramming into each other without concern for themselves, just for winning.
I don't know... Season one and two was "Ok, fine!" but season three was... Very exagerated, and the show have bad camera angles in comparison to the others seasons. Sorry for my english :P.

I just heard about this show and went through it. Yeah its true the animation and art isn’t the best but its exactly like mob psycho, low level art but Max out stats in story and writing. Worth the watch.
The animation and art is fantastic, one of the best parts of the show. Just because its not pretty or cute doesnt make it bad, they put tons of work into making each shot interesting and theres more fluid animation here than most other anime out there.

この演出見て中国で龍って言ったら神様的なポジションだもんなって思った。そりゃああくまで人のチャイナがドラゴンに勝てるワケはなくてそういう隠喩も込めてたのかなぁ…とか色々考えたくなるくらい作品が面白い。

This or Peco vs. Kazama is literally my favorite moment in anime.
