I’m a 75 year old gimpy geezer with a very arthritic back making bending over nearly impossible and although I do have help from friends cutting and loading I do all the splitting alone. I have a LogRite Pickeroon and a 12” and 20” tongs. I use the 20” most of all. The tongs are the most helpful accessory I have bar none! Absolutely a must have IMO!
I'm 69 and although I am in good shape, I do all my own wood processing, chain sawing, hauling, splitting and stacking, I still will have some lower back fatigue doing all that by myself. This video has convinced me to get a set of tongs just as you have and I thank you for sharing.

Hi - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. I had given up trying to spread the gospel about the use of timber tongs so I am delighted that somebody has taken on board my suggestion. I use a pair of 12 inch tongs all the time and they are indispensable for my operation. Once you become familiar with them you will be amazed how efficient they are, how they save back ache and how far you can throw logs from the same spot. When bucking I can hold one in my right hand while managing the saw, stand in the one spot in a woodpile, haul logs to me, buck them and throw them beside the splitter. With a bad back, wonky elbows, a bad knee and a broken shoulder I would have had to retire years ago without them. Keep on Splitting!!
Saving backs is always smart. When I was in my teens and twenties I could put my back into these situations and bounce back. Now in my forties, I know I can get myself down for a week just my lifting and turning just right. Thanks for suggesting to Roger. Have a great week, Jason - Huser Helpers

I'm usually not crazy about a tool like this. Most are way less efficient than doing it by hand. These logs tongs make things easier and faster. You can pick up a decent size long one handed with them Thanks for the suggestion! You are now spreading the word through my video.
Great tong video. I just bought 2 of these fitool tongs after watching your video. I used my 2 pickaroons today for the first time but I think I would like these in my arsenal too . Thanks for the video
These tongs are also really handy in the forest, I do a lot of my firewood cutting in swampy areas where I cant get my tractor. So with my ATV and small 4x6ft trailer I can get in there and I use a tong in each hand to drag the smaller diameter trees to my trailer, its a fantastic leg workout.
I bet they do work good for dragging small logs. That would be a great leg work out.
Spring is definitely here and so is wood cutting season! I will give these a try. Maybe save my back a little bit. 🇺🇸

i own a large and small log tongs had em since 2015 great tool for the wood pile , real handy if ya need to work with on a wet day .. some wood has moss on and the tongs grip the wood well .. Joe from California

Thanks for sharing Roger! Indeed overlooked!!! Once I saw your video, I got one 16in set. They work very well. Once you get a good hold of it, you can swing logs with it like you did a few times. I've got another smaller set for the smaller rounds. I don't have large hands as you do! In my situation, that is the best back saver tool of the year! Thanks!

Reminds me of using hay hooks. Me and my two brothers would hand stack a couple thousand bales each summer. Tools like hooks or these log grabbers will keep you young. Great demonstrates Roger, and I hope you enjoy these spring days. Jason

Hi Roger - Big Rodders again. I should have mentioned the most effective technique to adopt. The rear spike is the one that locks on so when gripping wood twist your wrist upwards and away from your body to tighten the tongs bite and then twist down when releasing, especially when throwing. It's not hard to master. I file sharpen the points every week. Another great feature of them is their safety. I have a pickaroon and always fear spearing my lower leg if a strike was deflected, a concern I don't have with tongs. Also, while folk normally caution about the dangers of a moving knife, my greated concern are crush injuries where fingers get jammed against the table or stationary knife, as has happened to me - extremely sore. The tongs distance you from that hazard.
That is a great tip on how to use it.

Dang Tony ! you cost me money getting the 60" xtreme cant hook :( but you're gonna save me a lot of money getting a pair of these forester tongs :) . luv the cant hook BTW . getting the xtreme in hand it is a SOLID tool , will do anything i could possibly attempt , isn't quite a heavy as i was expecting and will last beyond my time left on this rock . the tongs are less than $70 with tax and free S&H for two of them . the forester looks wider in the frame than the bahco , but are the thicker in gauge also ? is the steel used sturdy enough to resists bending/flexing when picking up a heavy log and it is twisting/swinging when picking it up and carrying it ? luv the use of bolts in it's construction !
I've found that a picaroon is a good tool for moving fairly large blocks. Just sink it in a little more than normal and then pick it up near the end (close to the block).
I like the tongs better in most cases for anything that I can pick up. If it is too big to pick up I can drag it with the pickaroon. If it is too big to drag I can roll it.

Yes, it would. A short handled pickaroon works good on splits too.

Good info Roger those look pretty neat. I had a pickaroon in my hands Thursday but I didn’t buy it maybe I was waiting on this video. I’m not really worried about the bigger rounds but which do you like best for putting rounds on the splitter. Thanks
It depends on what kind of splitter you have. You have a hydraulic log lift, so a pickaroon would be good but, I still prefer a set of longs tongs. If you didn't have a hydraulic log lift, the tongs would win hands down.
