    Hello Mark, Many thanks for your review of the Ochsenkoph log tongs they arrived today and were put to work immediately and they are a game changer for lifting firewood rounds. Also a huge shout out for Amazon for their amazing service, from ordering Stateside delivered on site in New Zealand in under 5 days, Best wishes KPP

    We received your nice note regarding your discovery of how well the Pinch-A-Log does work when used as intended. Would you please kindly do another video to show the proper use so that people understand what a great tool the Pinch-A-Log really is and how easy it is to pick up firewood end to end without any logs spinning or flipping. In fact the logs even 'feel' lighter, even though they are not, when balanced between the two pinch point horizontally as intended. The best features of this tool is that there is NO deep bending and being able to pick up, toss and stack, firewood whole or split, 6 to 26".

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  6 лет назад

      I can do that. I have a huge woodpile to split and the PAL will come in handy.

    Wow...I can't believe the American company made something even cheaper looking than what the Chinese put out. The rebar handle... OMG 😱

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  Год назад

      If they added the cork handle, it would be a nice improvement. Otherwise, it really works well and grabs bigger items compared to the others.

    North wind tools- The bent rebar piece looks very impressive. Looks like some made it in there shop on the weekend. Price on Ochsenkopf is twice the price of the one Stihl sells made by Ochsenkopf.

    The most important message here is that these tools save a TON of time and effort, make your work safer and more efficient and save your back.
    How often do you see someone use timber tongs when you go out in the woods?

  • @johncraftenworth7847
    @johncraftenworth7847 6 лет назад +2

    ox for the win...clearly better and more consistent grabber and looks far more comfortable and time efficient/less frustrating. My pick is actually the 25 dollar cold steel tomahawk with pickaroon on the back end, that has a nice size handle for this work and never fails to stick, it's a perfect pickaroon. And for heavy logs and rounds you need the logrite/stihl two man lifter! Northern Tool sells a cheaper wood version of these two man lifters as well. If you don't have two men, get a log cart like I got from northern tool that can easily slide under large rounds and roll them around with ease.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  6 лет назад

      I've always had my eye on the Logrite log arch. Unfortunately, they're a little out of my price range.

    • @johncraftenworth7847
      @johncraftenworth7847 6 лет назад

      You and me both Mark! If I was in Minnesota timber country I'd take the plunge, but I'm in the farm country and mainly split naturally downed trees or trees that need to come down for a reason other than firewood. Then I just process up whatever happens to be available. So I don't think I deal with enough trees or tree navigation issues in a forest environment to justify one.
      The northern tool log cart I have is no where near as heavy duty as a logrite log cart or their arch, but it's much much cheaper and has worked out for the 100-200 lb rounds I've wheeled around in it. I did buy the logrite super long cant hook with extra strong handle. Pricey but has proved its worth. I had to pull a 1000 lb log out of the ground as it had sank in over a number of years, and with that simple hand tool I was able to do it! Also makes it easy to timberjack these heavy logs, I put my smaller timberjack right next to the logrite can't hook, then use the long handled logrite to roll the log and be able to easily pop it up on the timberjack as I move them both in unison. These timberjacks alone don't have the strength or leverage to be able to move the heaviest of trees by themselves. Or you can just start a cut on one side, roll the log with the cant hook, then get the other side and not use the timberjack. Before I got this super long and strong cant hook, I could not deal with these super heavy logs at all as my timberjack was my longest tool and wasn't long enough to get leverage, and would probably bend if I was phyically capable of moving the logs with it. The jackstand itself is strong enough to hold up these logs so I'm able to use the cant hook and timberjack in conjuction to jackstand 1000+ lb large diameter logs.
      This is the cant hook I purchased: logrite.com/store/Item/Megahook
      I bought a small wooden handled peavey because sometimes a short handle is fine for a rolling job and is easier to handle in a given work situation. I like being able to stick the peavey in the ground when not in use as well, but having used both, the cant hook grips the logs easier/more efficiently. I guess the peaveys are useful for separating logs in log piles, not a situation I usually deal with.

    I have two pinch a log tools they are a great asset to a homeowner or business in the wood or firewood industry I have used these things to death they are industrucable One in each hand in my opinion for around 30 dollars cheaper and most importantly American made this tool does what the little one does and you can do larger logs it’s a no brainer!!!!!

    I think you will get better results with the pinch a log if you pick the log up by the ends. It will be more stable

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  2 года назад

      I normally bring both to the logging scene. I can often use both in each hand to move the rounds. Each one has it's advantages depending on the size of the wood being picked up.

  • @eddiespencer1

    I think you could make your own set from rebar and flat iron but affix spiked pads instead of single-point spikes to grip the logs so as to prevent the logs from twisting when lifted.

    It’s no longer true that the Pinch a Log is $79 including shipping. I’ve checked many websites, and all of them now require at least $25 shipping and handling.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder

      I just checked their website. It looks like they made a grip for the handles, which was something I recommended. Other than that, I use these for the big rounds.

      Bull. I'll take the german tongs and a pickaroon over that pinch a log anyday. Its too big, and being required to use it on pieces end to end is a slow cumbersome requirement.

    Hi there! Cool wood videos! we totally heat our home with a wood stove so these gadgets would really come in handy. I went to your links but with the OCHSENKOPF, it is a new model & different brand, GEDORE? only 1 review on there so I am not sure about that. Have you tried the new one?
    For the Pinch-A-Log, it also looks like they are no longer on Amazon. I went to their website, but although they do have videos of the model you have, it also looks like they have redesigned it now. Have you tried the new design of the PAL? Thanks!

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  4 года назад

      Thanks for letting me know about the links. The brand Ochsenkopf is owned by Gedore, a German tool company. They also supply items for Stihl, like axes and hatchets. As far as I can see, the tongs look the same. They work really well for me. The cork grip if very nice. They're very handy for handling firewood and log splitting.
      The Pinch-A-Log work well too. They have a bigger opening, so I use them for moving the big rounds. I haven't tried the new design yet, but suggested they get a padded grip, which it looks like they did.
      Another brand to consider is LogOx. I reviewed them on my channel too.

    I know this is an old thread, but I just noticed that the grip used on the PAL is backwards.

    • @MarkThomasBuilder
      @MarkThomasBuilder  3 года назад

      The PAL really works well with this original design. I use it for the bigger rounds since it has the biggest opening of all the log pinchers I own. I was on their website recently and noticed they made a few tweaks to it, one of them being a cushioned grip.👍

    Hello Mark, We very much appreciate that you tested the Pinch-A-Log. Just so you and everyone knows the PAL is used by gripping the ends of the logs with the tongs. It can be used at the sides if the log is standing up. The best way to use this excellent tool can been seen in a demonstration video on You Tube:

    The handle does not have cork because cork will not last. When the tool was engineered, the owner was thinking of a tool that will last a lifetime. I would encourage you to review the video with the proper demonstration of the tool at ruclips.net/video/XbLcfd4Z824/видео.html and then please make an updated review of the Pinch-A-Log vs. Ochenkopf. This video did not show the Pinch-A-Log (PAL) grasping the wood on the ends, as intended, which not only balances the wood to make it perceptively lighter but enables the user to toss the wood as well. On the occasion of picking up a standing log, the diameter needs to be 6" or greater.

      @MarkThomasBuilder  7 лет назад +1

      This video was simply a first impression, testing it out for the first time on all types of logs and sizes. Now that I've had it for several months, I'll consider making a video update. One thing for sure, these tools sure come in handy for firewood processing!
