I recorded this interview while participating in the Monastery On-Time program at the Shaolin Temple; in the last of the program, this was my second experience there.

It makes me think about something, my grandma used to tell me. (I was an absolute bookworm as a child.)
And she kept telling me:
"There are many things in life, you can't learn from books, kid."
And since a few years now, I begin to understand what she was trying to tell me. Many experiences we have to make ourselfes. It can't be simply explained by anyone or written down, thats impossible.
That's why she also kept telling me, not to always be stuck inside books, with my nose.

Thank you for conducting this interview! Listened to it twice. Shi Miao Hai is so humble and gentle as he shares his wisdom and experiences. His wisdom and experience on self awareness and finding happiness in the outside instead of working with what we already have in the inside is so mind opening. We may already know in concept but listening from someone like him reinforces that truth. As he said it we don't know anything until we experienced it. I can vouch on this.

I had a massive issue with anger. I watched spiritual videos, I read all the spiritual books, I meditated and still I remained angry.
One day while meditating, the door rang and it made me so mad like how dare someone deliver a package and interrupt my meditation. Then it hit me, I was trying to be spiritual when my mind was still a mess. I was reading the Dhammapada but I wasn't putting the teachings into practice. I wanted others to be kind and innerstanding, yet I was selectively kind with the temper of a mad man/woman.
I really had to guard my thoughts, to not give in to my habitual actions. The spiritual life is beautiful but it's A LOT OF WORK. A lot self work and realization.
