the first issue with the cost of cosmetic dentistry is that so much of it is even considered "cosmetic" in the first place. like braces are considered "cosmetic" even though overcrowding & even mild malocclusions can significantly increase the risk of decay. and if my tooth does decay to the point that it needs to be extracted, replacing it is considered "cosmetic." that's not cosmetic, i'm not worried about vanity, i need my teeth to EAT! the obvious solution is to stop gatekeeping "cosmetic" procedures from actual healthcare, especially where vital organs like TEETH are concerned, and to ditch the for-profit private insurance industry and establish a national socialized healthcare system where everyone is covered for everything.
I couldn’t agree more! I also wonder if the ADA is on board with this though-they would technically make less money per patient, but they’d have more patients. On the other hand they won’t even let hygienists operate independently in places where people can’t get access to dental care. Healthcare is a human right that everyone should have access too regardless of income (and this is coming from someone who works in healthcare).
I couldn't agree more. I finally saved up enough to get my teeth straightened and found out that my top and lower teeth were so out of alignment I couldn't chew or bite into things properly. I had my first proper bite of a hamburger recently after a year of invisalign braces and realised I've been ripping food with my teeth for 25 years. I didn't know that wasn't normal. It's so weird biting into things with my front teeth.
Fillings- covered, extractions- covered, filling the gap of emptiness- cosmetic🙄🤦🏻♀️ root canal-covered, capping it with a crown which must be done to protect the tooth- cosmetic 🤷🏻♀️ Ditching the private insurance wouldn’t help either. Hasn’t helped UK with their teeth

The purple eye was actually done by the model’s boyfriend, who I believe was a tattoo artist but not trained to do that type of tattoo. It also sounded like she was talked into doing it. She had to have fairly extensive medical treatment to save her sight and most of the dye has been removed.
youre exactly right shes an old friend of mine he basically talked her into it after she made a few comments in passing about how cool they were and he insisted he knew how to do it yet he didnt use the right ink, didnt dilute it, and didnt even do it in a proper sanitized shop. she still has her eye but its still got some vision issues. he was charged and im pretty sure that was the end of his career

Regarding the cost of braces: I live in Germany and when I was a teen about to get braces, we were told that the most "basic" brackets are covered completely by health insurance. If we wanted fancier ones (e.g. smaller or ceramic brackets) we would have to pay extra by ourselves. This way everyone no matter the income can afford braces but if you really want to, you can pay extra to have them prettier or less noticeable Edit: I'm talking specifically about my experience as a teenager and not getting braces as an adult, since I have no experience with that. I had my braces back then just to close some gaps, so nothing severe or major but we still didn't have to pay anything apart from the additional charge for smaller brackets that I mentioned. Hope this clears things up!
Meanwhile, mine cost about $4,000. I was lucky the dental insurance I had at the time covered adult braces but it covered only about $800 of it. Fortunately I was in a good position financially to pay them off before they came off.
I live in Germany and as far as I know the health insurance only pays when the braces are medically necessary. Like teeth griwing vertical. But not what could be done to improve someones teeth to prevent furmture problems.
That's how it should be everywhere. Mine were expensive and the orthodontist didn't even do the work properly. He moved my teeth too quickly and caused some damage to the roots.
Two things: braces in Germany are free only when you're under 18 or you have a massive defect that prevents you from normal living. Otherwise they range at around 5-6K eur for the pair alone, not counting the dentist visits etc. I'm currently at the end of my treatment and I did it all in Poland where the price was half of that.
The black face mask isn’t necessarily home made. There were a few commercial brands out that claimed to be “the most painful removal” and such. There are YT vids about it.
Thank you for bringing up the costs of dentistry in this county Dr. Youn. People that have issues with their teeth or even have some sort of disease or genetic issues get zero help medically unless they are basically rich. People with nicer teeth are more likely to get higher positions than those who do not. It really is a medical need at this point in society and dental insurance should be a basic need like regular medical insurance.
Plus we need our teeth to have a normal live, to be able to eat, speak properly and do you know how painful is to live with infected roots and cavities, there is nothing worst than a toothache, headaches weight loss, it’s serous
If it weren't for the feeling of the metal against tooth, I'd probably pull a few of my own teeth. Fillings have fallen out and some of the teeth broke and ache horribly at times. None of yhe topical toothache medications work on them. I make low enough income to qualify for medicaid but they don't cover dental for adults. I rarely smile now because of broken teeth.
I used super glue on a wound when I was hours out in the bush. I was bleeding badly due to my anticoagulant medication, so I needed to close the wound quickly. So I poured some epinephrine into the wound to close the blood vessels long enough to seal the wound with the glue. When I got to the hospital they said I'd done a pretty good job. But only do this in an emergency situation!!!
I feel bad for the guy who turned blue. He had no idea that could happen to him. And it cost him employment. I can't imagine what that was like for him 💔
A lot of professional tattoo artist's wont tattoo eyeballs due to the extremely high risk of complications. Even getting someone to sign a legal waver wont stop health regulators investigating the artist.

Send letters to Congressmen and Insurance companies and make them realize dental health is as important as your medical health because truth be told they are both the same. I've been writing a monthly letter to my reps/congressman since 2013. I've also make a monthly call. No help. I wish it did. My molar cracked, got infected and caused a horrible infection, ended up with sepsis. Still wouldn't tske the tooth out. Ended up having to skip paying rent to get it out for $800 cash.

You’re so right about the insanely prohibitive cost of “cosmetic” dentistry - and I used quotes because just about everything bar a straightforward filling is considered cosmetic - it’s insane. To improve my smile, but also to allow me to eat and speak properly, the last two being functions that should rate fairly high on the non-cosmetic scale you’d think, I need several implants, several crowns that will take the best part of a day under local anaesthetic. I guess it is surgery technically, but drilling a tiny bit into my jawbone is IMO, nowhere near the same level of complexity as the surgery required to re-arrange someone’s facial structure, remove and restructure their breast tissue, or to remove fat deposits from inside their body - Yet I could have a facelift, a breast reduction AND a spot of lipo, and it would cost less than the amount my dentist is charging me.
I actually needed jaw surgery to fix my bite because I had a major overbite (probably a growth deformity from breaking my jaw when I was a kid). The doctor said it was medically necessary since it was causing me issues with eating and talking and causing me headaches. And how much money did I get from insurance? $0.
goes to show you how much oral surgeons do bc everything you mentioned is exactly what oral surgeons do, they rearrange face structures, repair clef pallets, perform life saving operations, or anything else a person may need like implants. They do so much more than the basics.

My mother had to pay out of pocket to get me braces as soon as my front adult teeth came in when I was in the fourth grade. If she hadn't, my canines wouldn't have come in, and I would've either had to use fake teeth (which is what my mom had to do) or get them pulled down surgically. Small mouths also run in our family, so braces and retainers are necessary to avoid overcrowding and tooth loss. My mother also had to pay out of pocket to get braces for herself in her 60s because her teeth had crowded and migrated until they overlapped like shark teeth. If she hadn't gotten braces when she did, she would've lost multiple teeth and required surgery so she could still chew and stuff. Both my braces and my mother's were classed as "cosmetic."
Similarly I’m having trouble trying to get a breast reduction surgery covered by insurance. It, too, is often classed as cosmetic, even though for many women it’s medically necessary. Insurances want you to pay in but they don’t want to pay out 😠

My son has a small mouth and big teeth too. He got the crowding from my crappy genetics have to wait until his four big teeth come in , in the front so that we can put expanders in his mouth so everything will fit. it will cost us a fortune I'm putting money away now for it..
My dentist growing up (I'd guess this is around 1990) actually did prescribe the rubber band around the two front teeth idea as couldn't afford braces. He was an elderly man who was friends with my father but, looking back, he was out of date with his knowledge. The total of the experience probably explains my fear of dentists into adulthood.
I get it. The pediatric dentist my mom to me to in the late 50s and early 60s was really painful. I always complained to my mom how much the dentist hurt, and her response was that it was my fault for not brushing my teeth well enough. By the time I was 11 or 12, all my molars had silver/mercury fillings. When I was visiting my mom after I had gone to college, there was a news program on in the background and the pediatric dentist was being arrested. He had started slapping kids when they screamed while he was drilling on their teeth. He was not using any Novocain and was using saline when he injected “numbing medicine”. So now in my 70s, I have crowns on all my molars and three implants to the total tune of a Mercedes Benz.
I can understand the attempts at straightening teeth. My parents couldn't afford to get me braces and I couldn't afford to get them myself until my late 20's. But tattooing your eyeball? Heck no! Before I got braces, I had to have my wisdom teeth removed. I chose to be knocked out because I didn't want to see the knives and needles coming at my face.
You did the right thing with general anesthesia. My mom didn’t and it was brutal. The doc had to push against her really hard and the wisdom teeth were breaking apart while he was trying to get them out. She felt like she was hit in the face with a bus for a week.
Mine couldn’t either. I was told to pinch them straight with my fingers and hold it there as long as I could several times a day. They’re pretty straight now luckily
Actually, I used to (and still would) use super glue on people frequently in a pinch if someone has a gash or a severed lip and you can't get to a medical facility rapidly enough. It works incredibly well to be honest in every case sans stitches. On bare skin, hold pressure on the wound first until the bleeding reduces or stops sanitize the area, then seal the gash little by little. Afterwards, get them to a hospital or clinic post-haste for follow-up care. If a lip gets severed in two, sanitize the area, ideally have a third party hold the two parts together and then seal the lip, but you can do it alone if needed. The thing with super gluing a head gash is, the tiniest cut will look as if half the head has come off. The head bleeds a lot! Don't panic, separate the hair (But it's best to just shave the area as super glue and any hair on the body do not mix) Hair grows back usually and, you have a super cool look for a beat. But separate the hair, hold pressure on the wound until the bleeding decreases, sanitize the wound, and then slowly close the wound. Try and keep the glue out of the hair as if it gets into it, you're going to have to cut it off regardless. Heck, guitarists and bassists have used super glue on their fingers during shows for decades. Don't put your lips in glass containers, aside from what it may do to your lips, glass breaks! And aside from that, don't put your lips into any containers whilst sucking in, it will never end well and sausage lips are not in this season or any season...Oh, and stop listening to the Kardashians across the board! The charcoal, Elmer's glue thing, is a bad knock off of the Hell Pore mask which hurts like Hell and is definitely not good for the skin on your face! However, the mask that the girl was tearing off her face was not DIY'd, I think it was the above mentioned. It did not look homemade. IMO only. People, when it comes to your face especially; and your skin, please stop doing all of these crazy things to them. TIKTOK and Instagram views only seem important now, but they are NOT worth you permanently destroying your face for some stupid likes and subs. No Sus. It only seems cool in the moment. Looking CRAZY is not a good look on anyone. 🙂 As for the teeth, and literally everything else in this video, STOP IT!! JUST STOP IT!! Nothing is worth any of this. With regard to the at home teeth straightening - Tiffany Ferg did a video about how she did a cheaper alternative to invisalign which didn't require any appointments with an orthodontist - it messed up her bite, so she ultimately had to actually do invisalign and paid so much more overall. Unfortunate that teeth are so expensive to care for for whatever reason, but not a place to cut corners!!
Dermabond is cyanoacrylate glue, as is regular super glue. The only difference is that the medicinal stuff has a longer hydrocarbon side chain (i.e. octyl instead of methyl/ethyl). All variants are bacteriostatic and polimerize in the same way. There's nothing wrong with using super glue to close a wound, but getting stitches is preffered when proper medicinal infrastructure is available, since they lead to a better cosmetic result.
I was gonna bring this up; my hospital uses SkinAffix and Mastisol, which is kinda like spirit gum/gum resin instead. SkinAffix is a CA glue in a little purple snappy tube. c:

4:33 you can get tiny tubes of medical glue that are designed to stay sterile and seal skin. I use it a lot as I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and my skin just rips randomly sometimes. That along with paper stitches help me heal without excessive scars.
I have hEDS as well! I use moringa oil and hydrocolloid patches to help me heal. But I forgot about liquid stitches, will be adding it to my routine again
I did close a wound on my own once while wilderness camping. The pin on my collapsable saw gave out and the spring snapped the saw shut on my hand. Cleaned the hell out of it with iodine, closed it with superglue (I was hours away from the nearest hospital)
As I’ve aged, I’m starting to develop early stage gum disease. I assume that’s why I’m developing this gap between my front teeth that was never there as well, but I also developed a hole in my gum that had to be repaired. Now, treatment for this is deep cleaning (where they get WAY down under your gum line) several times a year. Do you think my insurance will pay for that? Nope, I guess they’d rather pay for expensive gum surgery when it gets really bad. What they see as cosmetic a lot of times is more preventative procedures. But they’re too stupid to see that… Hey, don’t cover the cost of that little cavity, that’s fine. I guess you’d rather have to pay half the cost of an expensive root canal and crown. That makes perfect sense 🙄 So it’s no wonder people pull their own teeth. I wouldn’t do that, however… My longest root to date is 28mm. Oral surgeons don’t even want to pull my teeth, you think I want to?! 😂
Okay, I just have to relate this: When I was very young (a jillion years ago) I had the membrane between my two front teeth also. I went to a dentist and they snipped that membrane out and sent me home with a handful of TINY rubber bands to wear. Eventually my teeth *did* move close together. That was an actual dentist, but, possibly times were different back in the ancient days, lol.

Sometimes the bone between these teeth may actually fail to form or dissolve away. The most common frenectomy recommended by an orthodontist involves removing the tissue between the upper two front teeth. The removal of the labial frenum may allow the closure of the gap between these teeth.
Superglue, which is cyanoacrylate, is already used for a long time in medical field, so it isn't that weird. Obviously, the buyable tubes aren't sterile and absolutely pure, but the principle makes a lot of sense. :)

If you're close or live near a dental school, dental and orthodontic services are done at a discount. When I was twenty-two y. o , my pharmacist hear me lamenting about my buck teeth. She talked with me about our university having an orthodontic department in the dental school. I called , set-up an appointment, and was accepted for braces and dental work. At one point they had a plastic surgeon come in, and talk with me about lower face, chin, jaw plastic surgery. They talked about balance , and symmetry of my face.
I am San Diego, born and raised. My mom's sister worked for an orthodontist, so myself, my sister, and cousins got great care. I consider it a gift my parent's gave me, despite the blood and pain.

I use to love to put super glue on all my finger tips in school and we would rub Elmer’s glue anywhere we could and peel it off. It’s like peeling a sunburn off. So satisfying!
I couldn't afford to get my teeth fixed until i was 33. They cost me and my husband a lot of money, but i was in pain a lot because i had a cross bite. My adult teeth came in around my baby teeth, which gave me problems for over a decade. It was medically necessary and should have been covered by insurance.
Super glue was used in the Vietnam war in place of stitches/gauze in the field due to the combination of unpredictable fire fights, lack of sanitary conditions and extreme humidity.
Two things for me! I got a small stab wound on my leg in high school (from one of those little pocket knives) and I wasn’t able to get professional treatment. When the wound wouldn’t really close on its own, I used superglue and was very lucky to only get a bit of an uneven scar. I’ve never had problems with it since, and it’s been maybe 5 years. Another instance- another time I couldn’t really get medical assistance- the permanent retainer glued behind my top set of front teeth that my optometrist put in maybe 3-4 years prior broke at school. The wire was cutting into the inside of my mouth and was not only very painful, it was very bloody. I ended up going into an empty art classroom and borrowing a pair of wire pliers for making sculptures. (I wiped it with alcohol first but it wasn’t exactly a sterile tool) and I pulled the rest of the wire out. It was fine (if uncomfortable cause I had to pull it out of where I was stabbing me first) and I was very much lucky enough not to get an infection. Even if I accidentally terrified one of the art teachers who happened to come into the bathroom to see me with bloody pliers and blood all over my face. 💀 In short: if you don’t have access to medical care for whatever reason, small things are okay to DIY if you’re careful (in my very much unprofessional opinion). But plastic surgery and other unnecessary procedures? Please, please, please, do not. I would have gone to a doctor (or a dentist) if I could have.
I am one of many Americans that grew up having never seen a dentist. I'm 37 now and developed major anxiety around being seen by a dentist. Because of that I've been compulsively brushing, flossing and rinsing for years to try to keep my teeth healthy. I still cannot go see a dentist due to the shame. I sympathize with anyone going through these anxieties. We want healthy teeth and access to care but between money, shame and anxiety we just can't do it. I've worked since I was 17 and only gained access to dental insurance three months ago. I'm still too afraid to make an appointment. My heart goes out to all that struggle with that, it's a vicious cycle. Thank you for being so honest about the lack of access and fear surrounding that Dr. Youn. ❤️❤️❤️
I was in an accident and fell busting my face on our concrete steps going up to my house and busted my face all up but I killed all my teeth so I have dying teeth and missing teeth so I feel bad for anyone who’s going through teeth issues. Its expensive as well and it is awful!! I went from having beautiful white straight teeth to Jack-o-Lantern teeth!! It’s hard not only because cosmetically but super painful too!! The super glue isn’t the worst thing in theory. I’ve had surgeries where surgical glue was used. Like you said the main things are sterile conditions and safety for human tissue on why it’s not the best idea.
If you are in an emergency superglue is actually great to have, but only if you need immediate attention and cant get to a doctor. You can also use tampons to clog bullet holes

I think the teachers of the boy could have made prep for picture day a teachable moment of being proud of their bodies and to not judge others harshly to help calm the negative feelings he and others may have been experiencing. I reacted with varying degrees of cringing until I saw the failed eyeball tattoo! I almost hurled. A needle heading towards the eye is nightmare material. Never mess with your eyes. They are more sensitive and fragile than you think. And blindness is no picnic.

Love your vids , i know a lot about the girl with the scleral tattoo. She didn't try it herself she had her boyfriend a tattoo artist do it but there were problems. First the ink must be a specially diluted ink which he didn't use. Then its horrifying but they inject under the sclera by hand ! No magnification, no lid retractor and they inject. Its amazing there aren't more scleral punctures. I made an entire video on this because I started seeing it in my practice. If I'm not mistaken she did lose the vision in the eye if not requiring a complete enucleation.
Here in the U.K. there have been serious issues accessing dentistry for all but the quite wealthy. People have become desperate enough to try all sorts of horrifying things because of this. BTW, I blame the politicians for this MOST!!!

I once had a foot that was cut open fairly deep when I was young and because I lived out in the countryside my mother had to use medical tape and superglue to close the gaping wound and stop me from doing something foolish like flexing my foot. The superglue does work though you will also want to apply some antibiotics and check for infection regularly to be safe. Having medical professionals with proper tools and equipment handle things like this is recommended.

About the super glue, when I was in Iraq. The military gave me and my fellow brother's a medical kit. It had a vile that was super glue for minor cuts, of course, sterile. It worked very well.

I get splits on my fingers which are extremely painful. I work outside all year long and winters are the worst. Years ago I asked my Veterinarian at the time about surgery glue? He told me use super glue. I’ve used it on my splits for over 40 years. That and duct tape.

I had what was supposed to be a rhinoplasty with polyp removal 20 years ago by an ENT (big mistake, I know.) Since then, one of my nostrils collapsed and I can't breathe out of it when I lie down. Then last year, I kept feeling this weird poking feeling in the tip of my nose. It drove me crazy, and I kept trying to get it out. Finally, one day, out of desperation, I took a pair of tweezers to try to remove whatever it was (I thought maybe a dried-up piece of skin or something like that). Because of the location, I couldn't see it in the mirror. I found it with the tweezers and started pulling. Turns out it was what I can only describe as a semi-rigid, 16 gauge piece of fishing line that is about 1.5 inches long with what looks like an untied knot on one end. I saw a video of this mask that apparently is becoming popular where the mask removes like 2 layers of skin when it’s removed. People looked like they had chemicals burns on their face. It was bad. What’s crazy is that’s how the mask is intended to function. I’m not exaggerating when I say everyone’s face looked like they had a severe chemical burn, kinda looked like a second degree burn but on their whole face.
I have an infection the dentist says can only be treated with antibiotics like put under my teeth. It's a contagious gingivitis, they want almost $8,000 to fix it. I've already given it to my husband. Crazy
He didn't just rub the silver on his skin, he drank it and did so for many years. Just rubbing it on the skin won't turn you blue. Silver is good for a lot of things, in and on the body but also for other causes.
When my sister was around 9 or 10 years old she was deeply absorbed in watching a movie whilst sucking an empty drinking glass to her mouth. Although it did not make her lips swell, she ended up with a big, dark bruise around her mouth. She was called Blue Beard for while.
The first loose tooth I ever lost was removed with pliers by my great uncle, it honestly wasn’t horrible since his technique had me putting the pressure on the tooth by having me say “WallaWalla Washington” repeatedly at increasing speeds . That man was one of those people who wouldn’t pull his punches and when 5 year old me wouldn’t stop messing with the tooth he decided the only way to make me stop was taking out the tooth.

the first issue with the cost of cosmetic dentistry is that so much of it is even considered "cosmetic" in the first place. like braces are considered "cosmetic" even though overcrowding & even mild malocclusions can significantly increase the risk of decay. and if my tooth does decay to the point that it needs to be extracted, replacing it is considered "cosmetic." that's not cosmetic, i'm not worried about vanity, i need my teeth to EAT! the obvious solution is to stop gatekeeping "cosmetic" procedures from actual healthcare, especially where vital organs like TEETH are concerned, and to ditch the for-profit private insurance industry and establish a national socialized healthcare system where everyone is covered for everything.
I couldn’t agree more! I also wonder if the ADA is on board with this though-they would technically make less money per patient, but they’d have more patients. On the other hand they won’t even let hygienists operate independently in places where people can’t get access to dental care. Healthcare is a human right that everyone should have access too regardless of income (and this is coming from someone who works in healthcare).
I couldn't agree more. I finally saved up enough to get my teeth straightened and found out that my top and lower teeth were so out of alignment I couldn't chew or bite into things properly. I had my first proper bite of a hamburger recently after a year of invisalign braces and realised I've been ripping food with my teeth for 25 years. I didn't know that wasn't normal. It's so weird biting into things with my front teeth.
Fillings- covered, extractions- covered, filling the gap of emptiness- cosmetic🙄🤦🏻♀️ root canal-covered, capping it with a crown which must be done to protect the tooth- cosmetic 🤷🏻♀️ Ditching the private insurance wouldn’t help either. Hasn’t helped UK with their teeth

The purple eye was actually done by the model’s boyfriend, who I believe was a tattoo artist but not trained to do that type of tattoo. It also sounded like she was talked into doing it. She had to have fairly extensive medical treatment to save her sight and most of the dye has been removed.

Regarding the cost of braces: I live in Germany and when I was a teen about to get braces, we were told that the most "basic" brackets are covered completely by health insurance. If we wanted fancier ones (e.g. smaller or ceramic brackets) we would have to pay extra by ourselves. This way everyone no matter the income can afford braces but if you really want to, you can pay extra to have them prettier or less noticeable
Edit: I'm talking specifically about my experience as a teenager and not getting braces as an adult, since I have no experience with that. I had my braces back then just to close some gaps, so nothing severe or major but we still didn't have to pay anything apart from the additional charge for smaller brackets that I mentioned. Hope this clears things up!
Meanwhile, mine cost about $4,000. I was lucky the dental insurance I had at the time covered adult braces but it covered only about $800 of it. Fortunately I was in a good position financially to pay them off before they came off.

That's how it should be everywhere. Mine were expensive and the orthodontist didn't even do the work properly. He moved my teeth too quickly and caused some damage to the roots.
Two things: braces in Germany are free only when you're under 18 or you have a massive defect that prevents you from normal living. Otherwise they range at around 5-6K eur for the pair alone, not counting the dentist visits etc. I'm currently at the end of my treatment and I did it all in Poland where the price was half of that.

The black face mask isn’t necessarily home made. There were a few commercial brands out that claimed to be “the most painful removal” and such. There are YT vids about it.
10 years ago they were all the rage and I bought one from Amazon-it didn’t even work and just hurt to take off.

Thank you for bringing up the costs of dentistry in this county Dr. Youn. People that have issues with their teeth or even have some sort of disease or genetic issues get zero help medically unless they are basically rich. People with nicer teeth are more likely to get higher positions than those who do not. It really is a medical need at this point in society and dental insurance should be a basic need like regular medical insurance.
Plus we need our teeth to have a normal live, to be able to eat, speak properly and do you know how painful is to live with infected roots and cavities, there is nothing worst than a toothache, headaches weight loss, it’s serous
If it weren't for the feeling of the metal against tooth, I'd probably pull a few of my own teeth. Fillings have fallen out and some of the teeth broke and ache horribly at times. None of yhe topical toothache medications work on them. I make low enough income to qualify for medicaid but they don't cover dental for adults. I rarely smile now because of broken teeth.
I used super glue on a wound when I was hours out in the bush. I was bleeding badly due to my anticoagulant medication, so I needed to close the wound quickly. So I poured some epinephrine into the wound to close the blood vessels long enough to seal the wound with the glue. When I got to the hospital they said I'd done a pretty good job. But only do this in an emergency situation!!!
I feel bad for the guy who turned blue. He had no idea that could happen to him. And it cost him employment. I can't imagine what that was like for him 💔

You’re so right about the insanely prohibitive cost of “cosmetic” dentistry - and I used quotes because just about everything bar a straightforward filling is considered cosmetic - it’s insane. To improve my smile, but also to allow me to eat and speak properly, the last two being functions that should rate fairly high on the non-cosmetic scale you’d think, I need several implants, several crowns that will take the best part of a day under local anaesthetic. I guess it is surgery technically, but drilling a tiny bit into my jawbone is IMO, nowhere near the same level of complexity as the surgery required to re-arrange someone’s facial structure, remove and restructure their breast tissue, or to remove fat deposits from inside their body - Yet I could have a facelift, a breast reduction AND a spot of lipo, and it would cost less than the amount my dentist is charging me.
I actually needed jaw surgery to fix my bite because I had a major overbite (probably a growth deformity from breaking my jaw when I was a kid). The doctor said it was medically necessary since it was causing me issues with eating and talking and causing me headaches. And how much money did I get from insurance? $0.

7:05 Braces aren't always cosmetic, even though they are often classified as such by insurance. My mother had to pay out of pocket to get me braces as soon as my front adult teeth came in when I was in the fourth grade. If she hadn't, my canines wouldn't have come in, and I would've either had to use fake teeth (which is what my mom had to do) or get them pulled down surgically. Small mouths also run in our family, so braces and retainers are necessary to avoid overcrowding and tooth loss. My mother also had to pay out of pocket to get braces for herself in her 60s because her teeth had crowded and migrated until they overlapped like shark teeth. If she hadn't gotten braces when she did, she would've lost multiple teeth and required surgery so she could still chew and stuff. Both my braces and my mother's were classed as "cosmetic."
Similarly I’m having trouble trying to get a breast reduction surgery covered by insurance. It, too, is often classed as cosmetic, even though for many women it’s medically necessary. Insurances want you to pay in but they don’t want to pay out 😠
I was told you couldn't have braces as an adult. So now I have hope for my overcrowding and pulling my canines down when my baby teeth start to go. (I'm in my 40s).

My dentist growing up (I'd guess this is around 1990) actually did prescribe the rubber band around the two front teeth idea as couldn't afford braces. He was an elderly man who was friends with my father but, looking back, he was out of date with his knowledge. The total of the experience probably explains my fear of dentists into adulthood.
I get it. The pediatric dentist my mom to me to in the late 50s and early 60s was really painful. I always complained to my mom how much the dentist hurt, and her response was that it was my fault for not brushing my teeth well enough. By the time I was 11 or 12, all my molars had silver/mercury fillings. When I was visiting my mom after I had gone to college, there was a news program on in the background and the pediatric dentist was being arrested. He had started slapping kids when they screamed while he was drilling on their teeth. He was not using any Novocain and was using saline when he injected “numbing medicine”.
So now in my 70s, I have crowns on all my molars and three implants to the total tune of a Mercedes Benz.

I can understand the attempts at straightening teeth. My parents couldn't afford to get me braces and I couldn't afford to get them myself until my late 20's. But tattooing your eyeball? Heck no! Before I got braces, I had to have my wisdom teeth removed. I chose to be knocked out because I didn't want to see the knives and needles coming at my face.
You did the right thing with general anesthesia. My mom didn’t and it was brutal. The doc had to push against her really hard and the wisdom teeth were breaking apart while he was trying to get them out. She felt like she was hit in the face with a bus for a week.
i got Invisalign during the pandemic at like 25 and it was the best decision ever. I never had wisdom teeth grow in

Actually, I used to (and still would) use super glue on people frequently in a pinch if someone has a gash or a severed lip and you can't get to a medical facility rapidly enough.
It works incredibly well to be honest in every case sans stitches. On bare skin, hold pressure on the wound first until the bleeding reduces or stops sanitize the area, then seal the gash little by little. Afterwards, get them to a hospital or clinic post-haste for follow-up care.
If a lip gets severed in two, sanitize the area, ideally have a third party hold the two parts together and then seal the lip, but you can do it alone if needed.
The thing with super gluing a head gash is, the tiniest cut will look as if half the head has come off. The head bleeds a lot! Don't panic, separate the hair (But it's best to just shave the area as super glue and any hair on the body do not mix)
Hair grows back usually and, you have a super cool look for a beat.
But separate the hair, hold pressure on the wound until the bleeding decreases, sanitize the wound, and then slowly close the wound. Try and keep the glue out of the hair as if it gets into it, you're going to have to cut it off regardless.
Heck, guitarists and bassists have used super glue on their fingers during shows for decades.
Don't put your lips in glass containers, aside from what it may do to your lips, glass breaks!
And aside from that, don't put your lips into any containers whilst sucking in, it will never end well and sausage lips are not in this season or any season...Oh, and stop listening to the Kardashians across the board!
The charcoal, Elmer's glue thing, is a bad knock off of the Hell Pore mask which hurts like Hell and is definitely not good for the skin on your face!
However, the mask that the girl was tearing off her face was not DIY'd, I think it was the above mentioned. It did not look homemade. IMO only.

With regard to the at home teeth straightening - Tiffany Ferg did a video about how she did a cheaper alternative to invisalign which didn't require any appointments with an orthodontist - it messed up her bite, so she ultimately had to actually do invisalign and paid so much more overall. Unfortunate that teeth are so expensive to care for for whatever reason, but not a place to cut corners!!
Dermabond is cyanoacrylate glue, as is regular super glue. The only difference is that the medicinal stuff has a longer hydrocarbon side chain (i.e. octyl instead of methyl/ethyl). All variants are bacteriostatic and polimerize in the same way. There's nothing wrong with using super glue to close a wound, but getting stitches is preffered when proper medicinal infrastructure is available, since they lead to a better cosmetic result.
I was gonna bring this up; my hospital uses SkinAffix and Mastisol, which is kinda like spirit gum/gum resin instead. SkinAffix is a CA glue in a little purple snappy tube. c:

I am gonna get a small plastic surgery for my left eye because I followed Dr. Youn's advice. He always says to use plastic surgery as a final resort. I am doing just that.
4:33 you can get tiny tubes of medical glue that are designed to stay sterile and seal skin. I use it a lot as I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and my skin just rips randomly sometimes. That along with paper stitches help me heal without excessive scars.
I have hEDS as well! I use moringa oil and hydrocolloid patches to help me heal. But I forgot about liquid stitches, will be adding it to my routine again
I did close a wound on my own once while wilderness camping. The pin on my collapsable saw gave out and the spring snapped the saw shut on my hand. Cleaned the hell out of it with iodine, closed it with superglue (I was hours away from the nearest hospital)
As I’ve aged, I’m starting to develop early stage gum disease. I assume that’s why I’m developing this gap between my front teeth that was never there as well, but I also developed a hole in my gum that had to be repaired. Now, treatment for this is deep cleaning (where they get WAY down under your gum line) several times a year. Do you think my insurance will pay for that? Nope, I guess they’d rather pay for expensive gum surgery when it gets really bad. What they see as cosmetic a lot of times is more preventative procedures. But they’re too stupid to see that… Hey, don’t cover the cost of that little cavity, that’s fine. I guess you’d rather have to pay half the cost of an expensive root canal and crown. That makes perfect sense 🙄 So it’s no wonder people pull their own teeth. I wouldn’t do that, however… My longest root to date is 28mm. Oral surgeons don’t even want to pull my teeth, you think I want to?! 😂
Okay, I just have to relate this: When I was very young (a jillion years ago) I had the membrane between my two front teeth also. I went to a dentist and they snipped that membrane out and sent me home with a handful of TINY rubber bands to wear. Eventually my teeth *did* move close together. That was an actual dentist, but, possibly times were different back in the ancient days, lol.

Had this done also. My teeth were close after that.
I did the same thing but they used a laser and once the membrane was gone the teeth moved together on their own.
Superglue, which is cyanoacrylate, is already used for a long time in medical field, so it isn't that weird. Obviously, the buyable tubes aren't sterile and absolutely pure, but the principle makes a lot of sense. :)
Regarding the man who was blue, I remember when that happened and at the time, it was reported (by him) that he drank colloidal silver, and that's what caused his skin to turn blue. If you look it up, you will find the same thing, that he drank colloidal silver and that's what caused it.

If you're close or live near a dental school, dental and orthodontic services are done at a discount. When I was twenty-two y. o , my pharmacist hear me lamenting about my buck teeth. She talked with me about our university having an orthodontic department in the dental school. I called , set-up an appointment, and was accepted for braces and dental work. At one point they had a plastic surgeon come in, and talk with me about lower face, chin, jaw plastic surgery. They talked about balance , and symmetry of my face.
I am San Diego, born and raised. My mom's sister worked for an orthodontist, so myself, my sister, and cousins got great care. I consider it a gift my parent's gave me, despite the blood and pain.

I couldn't afford to get my teeth fixed until i was 33. They cost me and my husband a lot of money, but i was in pain a lot because i had a cross bite. My adult teeth came in around my baby teeth, which gave me problems for over a decade.
It was medically necessary and should have been covered by insurance.

Super glue was used in the Vietnam war in place of stitches/gauze in the field due to the combination of unpredictable fire fights, lack of sanitary conditions and extreme humidity.
Two things for me! I got a small stab wound on my leg in high school (from one of those little pocket knives) and I wasn’t able to get professional treatment. When the wound wouldn’t really close on its own, I used superglue and was very lucky to only get a bit of an uneven scar. I’ve never had problems with it since, and it’s been maybe 5 years.
Another instance- another time I couldn’t really get medical assistance- the permanent retainer glued behind my top set of front teeth that my optometrist put in maybe 3-4 years prior broke at school. The wire was cutting into the inside of my mouth and was not only very painful, it was very bloody. I ended up going into an empty art classroom and borrowing a pair of wire pliers for making sculptures. (I wiped it with alcohol first but it wasn’t exactly a sterile tool) and I pulled the rest of the wire out. It was fine (if uncomfortable cause I had to pull it out of where I was stabbing me first) and I was very much lucky enough not to get an infection. Even if I accidentally terrified one of the art teachers who happened to come into the bathroom to see me with bloody pliers and blood all over my face. 💀
In short: if you don’t have access to medical care for whatever reason, small things are okay to DIY if you’re careful (in my very much unprofessional opinion). But plastic surgery and other unnecessary procedures? Please, please, please, do not. I would have gone to a doctor (or a dentist) if I could have.

I am one of many Americans that grew up having never seen a dentist. I'm 37 now and developed major anxiety around being seen by a dentist. Because of that I've been compulsively brushing, flossing and rinsing for years to try to keep my teeth healthy. I still cannot go see a dentist due to the shame. I sympathize with anyone going through these anxieties. We want healthy teeth and access to care but between money, shame and anxiety we just can't do it. I've worked since I was 17 and only gained access to dental insurance three months ago. I'm still too afraid to make an appointment. My heart goes out to all that struggle with that, it's a vicious cycle. Thank you for being so honest about the lack of access and fear surrounding that Dr. Youn. ❤️❤️❤️

I was in an accident and fell busting my face on our concrete steps going up to my house and busted my face all up but I killed all my teeth so I have dying teeth and missing teeth so I feel bad for anyone who’s going through teeth issues. Its expensive as well and it is awful!! I went from having beautiful white straight teeth to Jack-o-Lantern teeth!! It’s hard not only because cosmetically but super painful too!! The super glue isn’t the worst thing in theory. I’ve had surgeries where surgical glue was used. Like you said the main things are sterile conditions and safety for human tissue on why it’s not the best idea.
If you are in an emergency superglue is actually great to have, but only if you need immediate attention and cant get to a doctor.

I think the teachers of the boy could have made prep for picture day a teachable moment of being proud of their bodies and to not judge others harshly to help calm the negative feelings he and others may have been experiencing. He needs the biggest hug and to know its ok and there is still time for his other teeth to push them closer. I hope things are better for him.
For a gaping wound, keep some steri-strips at home... no issues of infection providing the gash was well cleaned first.
I remember doing the suction lip thing when I was a little kid in the 60’s! It wasn’t a regular thing. More to be amazed at how I could let go of the cup and it would stay in place! 😆

I reacted with varying degrees of cringing until I saw the failed eyeball tattoo! I almost hurled. A needle heading towards the eye is nightmare material. Never mess with your eyes. They are more sensitive and fragile than you think. And blindness is no picnic.

Love your vids , i know a lot about the girl with the scleral tattoo. She didn't try it herself she had her boyfriend a tattoo artist do it but there were problems. First the ink must be a specially diluted ink which he didn't use. Then its horrifying but they inject under the sclera by hand ! No magnification, no lid retractor and they inject. Its amazing there aren't more scleral punctures. I made an entire video on this because I started seeing it in my practice. If I'm not mistaken she did lose the vision in the eye if not requiring a complete enucleation.
Here in the U.K. there have been serious issues accessing dentistry for all but the quite wealthy. People have become desperate enough to try all sorts of horrifying things because of this.

I once had a foot that was cut open fairly deep when I was young and because I lived out in the countryside my mother had to use medical tape and superglue to close the gaping wound and stop me from doing something foolish like flexing my foot. The superglue does work though you will also want to apply some antibiotics and check for infection regularly to be safe. Having medical professionals with proper tools and equipment handle things like this is recommended.

About the super glue, when I was in Iraq. The military gave me and my fellow brother's a medical kit. It had a vile that was super glue for minor cuts, of course, sterile. It worked very well.

I get splits on my fingers which are extremely painful. I work outside all year long and winters are the worst. Years ago I asked my Veterinarian at the time about surgery glue? He told me use super glue. I’ve used it on my splits for over 40 years. That and duct tape.
Bag balm. Keeps the skin soft, so it's less likely to split.

I cannot afford the dentist so haven’t been since Covid started. Not a lot of NHS dentists are taking people on.

I had what was supposed to be a rhinoplasty with polyp removal 20 years ago by an ENT (big mistake, I know.) Since then, one of my nostrils collapsed and I can't breathe out of it when I lie down. Then last year, I kept feeling this weird poking feeling in the tip of my nose. It drove me crazy, and I kept trying to get it out. Finally, one day, out of desperation, I took a pair of tweezers to try to remove whatever it was (I thought maybe a dried-up piece of skin or something like that). Because of the location, I couldn't see it in the mirror. I found it with the tweezers and started pulling. Turns out it was what I can only describe as a semi-rigid, 16 gauge piece of fishing line that is about 1.5 inches long with what looks like an untied knot on one end. Now it seems the tip of my nose is moving out of shape. Unfortunately, I can't afford to have another surgery. On top of that, the polyps are so bad now that I can't taste anything or breathe easily.
I know this isn't normal, but WTF?

I saw a video of this mask that apparently is becoming popular where the mask removes like 2 layers of skin when it’s removed. People looked like they had chemicals burns on their face. It was bad. What’s crazy is that’s how the mask is intended to function. I’m not exaggerating when I say everyone’s face looked like they had a severe chemical burn, kinda looked like a second degree burn but on their whole face.

I have an infection the dentist says can only be treated with antibiotics like put under my teeth. It's a contagious gingivitis, they want almost $8,000 to fix it. I've already given it to my husband. Crazy
He didn't just rub the silver on his skin, he drank it and did so for many years. Just rubbing it on the skin won't turn you blue. Silver is good for a lot of things, in and on the body but also for other causes.

The first loose tooth I ever lost was removed with pliers by my great uncle, it honestly wasn’t horrible since his technique had me putting the pressure on the tooth by having me say “WallaWalla Washington” repeatedly at increasing speeds . That man was one of those people who wouldn’t pull his punches and when 5 year old me wouldn’t stop messing with the tooth he decided the only way to make me stop was taking out the tooth.
