- We are about to discover the history, the features and the background of the real Binson Echorec, one of the most iconic and imitated delay effects of all times. We were lucky enough to get our hands on two original vintage units in perfect working order: a 1957 T5E Echorec Gold Panel and a 1961 T7E Echorec 2°. Franco Avona, was a Binson employee assigned to the Echorec assembly line at the time these two old units were built; we went to visit him in Milano to hear from him some first-hand information. Hosted by Bob Cillo.

Dude you are the hardest working man I’ve ever seen. Where you get this information l don’t know. It’s not just off the internet. So you literally have to do a lot of legwork or know all this stuff. I have learned so much from you. My hat is totally off. Once again thank you.
Michael thank you again for your kind comments, they are really encouraging, rewarding and flattering! I'm really happy that you like the BTR channel!
Hello Michael, I see that you have the Firebird logo in your icon, did you check out the last episode? ruclips.net/video/RMb2SPnUUWE/видео.html
Excellent video, very fascinating the fact you met Mr Avona
Thank you for your kind feedback, I'm happy that you enjoyed the video!
What a brilliant vid, thanks. Just bought a beautiful Levin 330 M2 archtop from 1960 with original case. Have been looking for a Binson for quiet some time now and may have found a T5E. Housing looks a bit battered but it’s looking fine inside and has recently been served. It’ll be impossible to resist. You’re very good at playing guitar too.
Friedrik, thank you so much for your kind words! I'm really happy that you liked the video and my playing, please feel free to browse among the other content of the channel. Congratulations on your awesome guitar and good luck with the T5E, please let me know how it goes!
@@BobsToneReview Thanks! Well the seller changed his mind and will try to sell it on Reverb or eBay to get more money. I’m thinking of restoring my Dynacord Echocord Super 62 and buy a T Rex Replicator d’Luxe instead, cause can’t afford the money people want on Reverb/eBay. Not even worth haggeling🤔
I'm sorry thet the seller changed his mind @@fredrikmoback146 , that's too bad. I wish you to find at a reasonable price. On a different note I've been using the Replicator for a few years and it works well, especially for studio use. @@BobsToneReview Thanks! Everything seemes to work with my Dynacord Echocord Super 62, it fires up, tape is moving, signal in the green eye, valves are good. But nothing from the guitar amp not even the dry signal. If it needs a recab the parts Will be 235 USD. Will take it to a technitian to see what’s wrong. On the good side: Found a similar tape echo a Dynacord Echocord Super 65 in a shop for just a little more. So will buy it. Can’t beat a valve driven delay. Avalanche run and Afterneath of EQD are brilliant pedals. I use them a lot. But they`re not the real deal.
@@fredrikmoback146, absolutely! Those pedals do their job very well but I agree that the real deal tube/tape units are a whole different matter. Good luck with the Dynacord Echoes!
Thank you for a great video! These units are magical in the right hands. I just subscribed to your channel.
Thank you for the kind words Bruce and welcome aboard! I agree, they are magical indeed!
really excellent playing!!
Thank you so much for your appreciation Tom!
this video is pure gold!

Come chitarra, intendi la Meazzi Hollywood Jupiter?
super :)) ! mitico il signor Avona, ogni tanto vado a farmi raccontare aneddoti da fabbrica :)
Ah che bello Massimo!! La prossima volta mi porti con te? : ) Mi è venuta una nostalgia di Echorec!
@@BobsToneReview sig.Avona è troppo forte davvero :)
@@MassimoMartellottaMusic Yes, absolutely! Davvero una piacevolissima compagnia.
Bought a Binson Echorec from 1957 with serial number 1557 today in mint condition, almost new in the case. It was on someones attic for almost 70 years. Cant wait to let it check first and play with it on new songs. Maybe I need to make a video too
Congratulations Orangedaysband, best wishes with your "new" Echorec. Also, I'm sure it will inspire you new sounds and even more new songs!
@@BobsToneReview thanks so much! 😃 Cheers Mitchell
@@orangedaysband Let me know how do you like it Mitchell!
@@BobsToneReview It isnt used for 70 years, so maybe I need to check it first with someone before I gonna destroy something. Whats you advice?
@@orangedaysband Mitchell, the units built after 1965 can be very dangerous: they have a different insulation material that shrunk or degraded throuogh the years, so they easily short circuit and it's easy to get electrocuted. 1957 units usually still have the original insulation material intact. Having said that, I'd say that testing it after so many years with the assistance of a good techincian, is a wise idea. Also, if the units works, you should do some regular maintainance such as cleaning, lubricating, check the tubes and apply Greek pitch on the rubber wheel.
Thank you very much for the nice video & education on the Binson Echorec!
There was one for sale in mint, working condition here recently ... tempted but quite expensive!
Thank you for the kind comment Glen! Have a rockin' 2022
Amazing video of this magical machine!
Thank you for your nice words TaffaFilms, I'm happy that you liked the video! Please subscribe the channel, more to come! : )
excellent video... and how cool is that to have that unit serviced by the original QC guy? it's criminal you don't have more subscribers. keep up the good work.
Thank you for the kind words and the encouraging feedback Marc! In Italy we say: "The few, the proud" : )
Thanks for your amazing review about the Binson nothing comes close! As a young guitar player in my 20s, back around the early 90s, I wanted one but it was way beyond my means!! I opted for a late 60s Wem copicat, which I still have, that I could afford!
Thank you AT, I'm happy that you enjoyed the video! Please feel free to browse among the other content of the channel. Yes, I think you found an excellent compromise with the Copycat; still plenty of vintage vibe too! : ))
@@BobsToneReview I still use it through my father's Vox AC 30 that I had restored about 10 years ago. My father got it when the original owner wanted to buy a car.The amp had been bought on hire purchase and there was still £10.00 to pay on it when he was making approx £1600 per year as a teacher in the late 60s!!!
@@FenderTele , Yes it's amazing how expensive music gear was, in relation to the wages of the time! Thank you for your story, I love AC-30's from the 60's!
Semplicemente fantastico.
Semplicemente leggendario
Che video spettacolare! Una bellissima testimonianza! Grazie!
Grazie Piero!
Thanks, great video

Always loved me a #BINSONECHOREC! "Back to The Future" of elegant Italian Design and technical innovation!
I totally agree, they are wonderful machines. At their time they really were an asset in electronics engeeneering.
Grazie Fabrizio! Davvero felice che il filmato ti piaccia!
Thank you for this excellent video on the Echorec. I wish there was an effects pedal that is as organic as the original. Some are close, but too bright and clean. Grazie Grazie!
Thank you for your feedback David, I'm happy that you liked it, please feel free to keep an eye on the channel for more!
@7:51 = WOW!! For a delay unit that's an incredible amount of p2p wiring. 6 tubes no less too! I had an Echoplex ep-2, and recently got a Fulltone Tube Tape Echo - but an Echorec and an Eccophonic are always the 2 I am most in search of. The preamp, even with no use of the delay is almost worth the price of admission alone
I totally agree Monto, thank you for your comment. I found that the preamp of the 1957 T5E is even sweeter and warmer sounding. These units were made with advanced engineering, they are far more complex than a common tube amplifier and were priced accordingly. Congratulations with your equipment, EP-2 and Fulltone TTE are great pieces. Subscribe the channel if you like!

Very nice Bob, grazie!
I would love to try an original Binson. I just got the clone that T-Rex made this year.
Hi Tom, the original units sond amazing; what are your impressions on the new T-Rex unit?

Che belli ed istruttivi questi video! Complimenti!
Hi
Bob! I would love to purchase one. Any advice? why letters are in french btw? Any reason? CHEERS
Hello Maria Soledad, unfortunately I already sold mine a while ago and sadly thay are no longer going for cheap. They often show up for sale on this site, very popular in Italy:
www.mercatinomusicale.com
If you find a good one at a reasonable price, please make sure to deal with a reliable seller; there's no feedback system.
As I mentioned in the video, the panels were released for different markets, in various European languages; I think English and Italian were the most common.
Here's one for sale from a shop, they say it's in perfect working order, freshly restored by Franco Avona, the same guy you saw in the video.

It is a marvelous piece of Electromechanical enguneering a real gem I just wish people would stoo throwing the tag "Holy Grail" of this or that , it feels wrong. There are "Exceptional" devices and instruments let's leave the Grail in it's Theoligical home. Great vid though.
Thank you for your comment Giulio! I think that "Holy Grail" is just a saying to indicate something that is highly sought after and regarded as an "arrival point"; I think it should not be taken too seriously 🎶
made in italy ! :)
Both Echorec and Video : )
@@BobsToneReview Ah, allora sei italiano pure tu
