Today's video prompted me to read up more about Mr. Emett.
What an interesting character.
He was behind the magical contraptions of the movie "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang", amongst some other fascinating inventions, sculptures, cartoons, etc.
I'm surprised that nobody ever made a movie about Rowland Emett himself.
Definitely a Wes Anderson film, if ever it were to be made!
This is so fun, I wish i could see it in colour!
i used to work near where one of his pieces the 'Featherstone-Kite Openwork Basketweave Mark Two Gentleman’s Flying Machine' was on display, it was quite a sight and used to be activated every 30 minutes or so

Civilised, eccentric and clever.
He designed the clock inside the Victoria Centre in Nottingham. It was recently restored and is about the best thing in one of the nation's most architecturally brutal monstrosities. Emett's fine clock is not to be confused with the equally fine Great Central Railway Clock Tower which is all that remains of Victoria Station that was demolished to make way for the centre in 1968.
Interested to see how many people haven't got a clue about the things being referenced here!

I wonder if Mr Emett in any way inspired Terry Gilliam (Monty Python) in his set design process and animations a few years later? 🧐🙂
