@mxtty5633 It helps for them to be but in the start once you know the scale your using you can practice that scale until it's at least temporarily second nature. A trick ive seen used is that when you first start out in improv, write down a solo that you think sounds good and memorize it, while slowly working your way towards full improv. You can also fiddle around with some ideas for a time and find some specific licks that you like and write those down for reference and rememberance. An important thing to remember is that when writing stuff down you end up hearing a specific thing in your head as you play so if you mess up you think it's a mistake. However, other people don't know that so dont lose confidence if you mess up. There are no wrong notes only interesting choices
