Excellent video Dave; this is the type of educational video we need in the hobby; “knowledge is power”; congrats on your move and be well and stay safe!
Thanks for the lesson Dave! I remember you talking about the type 1 and 2 Mantle on your video about identifying a fake! Every time I hear someone questioning the authenticity of a 52 Mantle I refer them to that video!
I just love learning this kind of detail. Especially valuable to know before allocating the dollars required to add one of these gems to a collection. Thank you for this service.
Great information Dave! Great video as usual. I've read the interview with Sy Berger, with TS O'Connell and Sports Collectors Digest. Looking forward to what your interpretation is of the interview. Should be a great video. Enjoy Florida, some great shows there.
Fascinating! I’m a Thomson collector. I don’t have the ‘52 Topps, I hope to track one down soon! Now I’ll know Type 1 vs 2. Thanks for the great video!
Dave, this was awesome, thank you! Looking forward to your thoughts on whether or not the excess inventory of 1952 Topps high numbers were dumped into the river! That has always been a fascinating story within the hobby!
Great Video Dave. Information for all 3 cards beautifully presented. The only thing I can add is both Jackie Robinson types seem to have a downward upper border tilt to our left. Granted, this cards’ factory cut can improve the upper border tilt (optical illusion) but the tilt is still there especially on Type 2s.
Gr8 informative video Dave.. I like either copy and would love to own even the Bobby Thompson ..😅 Congrats on your selling /closing on your home..😍 Thanks for sharing this info..😮 Take care..👍💕🔥👊
Worked in printing for years, back then all done manually. Both Mantle and Robinson had to be remade to replicate the double print. My Mantle is a type two. Appreciate you sharing. Best news is that you are moving to Florida, hopefully close to me!
I’m well aware of that, as is 99% of the collecting community. As stated, the purpose was to show differences in the Jackie and Thomson of which most are unaware. Thanks for watching and happy collecting!
Great video. I've referred several people to your older video on the different Mantle types and how to ID fakes. I've never paid much attention to the differences in the Jackies but my unscientific observation over the years has been that the colors on the Type II Mantles aren't quite as bright as the Type I and the contrast doesn't tend to be as strong. There's a certain rich blue some of the 311s have that you rarely see in a Type 2. Just the way it seems to me. I wonder if others have noticed that.
Thank you! Ever since, the Beckett price guide had DP next to the 52 Mantle, I always wondered why and the impact the double print had on its scarcity. My take away had always been, “imagine how much they’d be worth if they weren’t DP. Do you agree with that mindset? It seems more than a coincidence that the games biggest stars, Mantle and Robinson would be a DP”. Was it a Topps marketing strategy to give buyers a better opportunity to get these two stars? Thanks for your analysis 👍❤️
That’s a good question… but actually the 6th series including those 2 players were not planned but were printed very late. How they decided on mantle as a DP idk. He don’t kill it in 1952 for sure
Idk what , if anything was dumped. Who’s to say it wasn’t lots of cases from the 50s. Was 1952 the only surplus year? Dumping cases that contain o e of the most valuable cards in history makes a good story though… and to say it was a river barge dump is even more exciting
Better eye appeal. The top border around the type 2 signature is a mess. And type 2 doesn’t have the black box completely around the Yankees logo which looks bad too.
dave i respect your knowledge but to me as long as they are authentic does it really matter the grading companies dont differentiate what the heck is the difference just saying differentiate so what the hell is the difference

Excellent work, Dave. Thorough and concise. Congrats on the house sale and the move to Florida.
Thanks Gary
Very interesting
….. but stupid “. ( “very interesting , but stupid”) was a regular bit on the 1960s-70s Laugh-in TV show . I digress

No a big difference…. But there is one!
@@Bluejacket66finally picked up my Thomson - Type 2 😊

Appreciate the thoughts!!

Good to hear from you Jackie!
Fantastic Dave! I have never seen anything at all on the Jackie or Thompson. Class is in session baby!
Thanks… stay tuned my friend

Can’t be too far Orlando!!
Good video. That has been identified (DP's) for many years...

Hi Dave. Great information. Good luck with the move.
Thanks Tony!!
OK, damnit, now I have to buy 2 52 Mantles! 😂. Thanks, Dave.
I guess it’s best…
Type 1 is so much nicer, but I'd love a type 2 just as much. So informative...never knew any of this.
Great video
It’s cleaner to the eye..
Yes - someone else agrees with me!
Thank you Professor! PayPal Sent for the schooling!
👍
Thanks, i had no idea!
😀

I e noticed shade differences for sure!
Building in Florida🥳🥳🥳welcome to the best state….lol Best weather, no state income Tax and Card shows every weekend😂
….. but the hurricanes????
I didn't realize there were different variations
Yep!
Fun stuff! Appreciate you sharing, Dave! Also, you tried to trick us by reversing the image on the Bobby Thompson side-by-side compare. 😀 type 3??
I don’t screen my videos🤷♂️
@@Bluejacket66 haha No need to! I’ll go with ‘you were just testing to see who was paying attention’.

@@Bluejacket66 Got it! 👍❤
the cards like the 52 mantle now that the value is so extreme its really worrying how many perfect fakes could be out there.
There’s a lot but most are easily spottes
On the Type 1, Mick also has a small mole on his upper lip
That’s donut crumbs
Is it possible that the cards dumped were errors missprints

The type 1 is a superior variant and should demand a premium, but it never has.
Why do you think it’s superior?
Better eye appeal. The top border around the type 2 signature is a mess. And type 2 doesn’t have the black box completely around the Yankees logo which looks bad too.
why is the Thompson photo reversed?
Poor editing by me
dave i respect your knowledge but to me as long as they are authentic does it really matter the grading companies dont differentiate what the heck is the difference just saying
differentiate so what the hell is the difference
I agree there is no reason for grading companies to differentiate. It’s more of a nerd curiosity
What city are you moving to in FL?
I’m building in the villages… yes I’m that old😂
@@Bluejacket66 That's about an hour and 20 minutes from me, but maybe I'll run into you at a card show sometime.
