a break down of you explaining what you are doing in each shot (i.e setting bevels, welding the bar that will make the cutting edge, etc) would be awesome to watch.
I have a request, it fits in mildly with what is trending as it relates to Tolkien but it's also unique and has not been done before. Talions dagger from Shadow of Mordor/ shadow of war
I was talking to you on Tic Toc the other day about a cane axe. It would be identical to this but a flat top and a lot smaller so u can use the axe head as a handle. This is great work. Wish I could do this.
The borax helps keep forge scalp from forming and causing a delamination correct? (I've only ever forged a throwing know from a railroad spike heated in a soup can insulated with plaster of Paris with two holes drilled through for blow torches)
Borax is used as a flux and prevents oxidation of the steel(forge scale). When oxidized the steel cannot weld together, so preventling it is key in getting a proper weld.
I have already failed 3 times, even with small pieces of metal(((( I can’t do forge welding, I can’t heat it to such a temperature on charcoal, I don’t have normal borax, so I use glass, but it seems to me that this is due to temperature.
@@izzythepsychouniverse4852 I rebuilt my forge so I can easily heat steel to melting temperature. The problem is that I can’t heat 2 pieces evenly; I either pull it out too early and the iron oxidizes, or too late and half the piece melts. I can't monitor the temperature properly because the coal blocks my view of the workpiece.
Why would you call this a Dane axe???? The axe you made in this video have nothing to do with Danenaxes. A bit of advice..... do you historical research before you start a projekt like this in the future.
It's such a delight to see someone properly hardening something without shaking it as if that's the only thing keeping you alive.

Silent with work noise is better.

This head shape doesn’t appear to be on the Petersen typology, where does it come from?
Another name for this type of axes is the bearded axe
True!! This one is actually modeled after a faroese style axe

How do you keep your camera from shaking when hammering or using the power hammer?
I just put it on a tripod 🤷
Camera shakes all over.....
Man that is one sexy peace.
What is the total time on the protect? I'm entry level as you know so I have to give more than $25hr on a serious quote for one like this

@@stevesyncox9893 Three big professional knifemakers, to include Kim Breed said $25hr, no less. These guys command much more than that
Hi I’m thinking of starting my own blacksmithing business I am 14 years old tho but it would be helpful if anyone had any tips or tricks for forging
You tube...... lots & lots of you tube to start. Watch every vid you can.
Find a mentor - so you don't have to make their mistakes, it will save you years of time. Trust me, I wish I had when I first started.
Does anyone know what happened to the katana he was forging awhile back

I think you can get it up to welding temps. You can use a Japanese style forge for that, easier to keep the heat up. Look into that maybe?

@@rplanet_ua ah, okay, not sure about that then.
how long did this take as far as actual forging?

Pretty sure they didn’t use a giant press in traditional times bud
