The Indian Railways double stack container trains seem a lot higher than those we have in North America.
We don't use well cars unlike North American goods trains. Perks of Indian broad gauge.
It's the same. That is what goes international to the USA also. How can it be light.
These all developments are done in recent years by Modi government. I am happy as an Indian.

@@Devi1_rideR.s already stop production in 2015, they shifted to world most powerful electric engine made in india itself why us is obsessed with them 😂
To all the naysayers among US railroaders who say you can't run double stack containers under overhead wire of electrification, here is Indian Railways doing exactly that -- and without even using well cars.
That's because there overhead wires are built higher in other countries you would need to raise the overhead cables to do this
@@johncas1 . . . But in the US, with a few regional exceptions that are small other than the Northeast Corridor, it would be not a matter of raising them, since we don't have them yet, but of building them high in the first place.
This is dedicated freight line recently built only for freight movement
And they’re able to use without well since its wide gauge
@@hmmmmm9540 The broad gauge of the track is nice for this, but not what enables use of flatcars instead of well cars -- for that, you must have high loading gauge (clearance, not track gauge). The broad track gauge does help by providing more lateral stability -- presumably at some point it would become absolutely necessary for that reason, but I don't know if that point has been reached.

truly an engineering marvel...i hope whole of india gets these type of electrified double stack trains
Indian railways are electrified almost 90%+ of the routes, these double stack container sections are especially dedicated fright corridors for running double stack containers. We have 2 dfcs and more to be built in future as per future needs. In dfc section the distance from the ground to ohe is almost 6-6.5m and in the normal route the distance is approx 4m.
From my childhood I always wanted to travel in that little cabin tugged at the back of these trains

If the railway line runs under bridges or through tunnels, options are limited.
@@mattg432 yes exactly and thats why these dedicated freight corridors (DFCs) were constructed so that those issues dont arise. Passenger trains arent allowed on these tracks and all the tracks are made such that they can double stack.
There are 2 major DFCs, the western one and eastern one connecting west and east india respectively. The one in the video is Western DFC.
DEFC was long awaited. It's good to see that the first line have been opened, and the next line will be in the comming years.

Bro almost 90% work is done and is operational
Interesting that you still have cabooses in India, even though they look much different than the ones we used to use in Canada
Ours is more British-type, I guess.
Yes, Indian Railways still use caboose. Indian Railways is a state-owned behemoth and is slow to adapt to new tech. IR also has to deal with militant labour unions while making such changes. They have recently started adding EOT train devices instead of the caboose. It will take at least another decade for it to be used on all freight trains.
we are planning to remove them

Fun fact : These trains run at around 100 kmph. The locomotive has over 12000 horse powers and tracks are traffic and environment friendly. The track goes on elevated sections in traffic areas and it has many animal passings so that animals can safely cross.
Also, thanks to Japan for providing loans for these expensive projects. Also, over 96% of Indian railways has been electrified. Over 10 new nuclear power plants are commissioned. And many such projects have made India the only country that is on track to meet its Paris climate summit target.

@@BatSoupSeller What's wrong with mentioning Japan. We are allies
Dedicated freight corridor as a concept is quite unique to India. It is not really a thing on such large scale in any other country.
The reason is geography and population of india. Most of other big countries have most population around sea border while in india mass population is in up,bihar, rajsthan,mp, punjab. Which are 500-2000 km away from cost line which needed for export and import
Dude America have these dedicated freight corridor much bigger than india since atleast around 100 years.

Born I along Nacala corridor in Malawi seeing trains since was a kid but this is my first time am seeing containers stacked double like that😱
The WAG12 looks like 2 ‘WAG6’ likes bolted together, which may or may not be the case.
The magic is in the modern electric motors and the electronic controls which minimise the losses (power, heat …).
Great stuff!
Sticking two or more locomotives together is pretty much the only way to get to a certain amount of power and tractive effort. Such twin units are running ore trains in Sweden and Norway, and the Russian regularly stick two, three or four locomotives together, which operate as a single unit. The Chinese even stuck six locomotives together into a single unit.
The Americans once built a 30 metre, 247t, eight axle monster, the EMD DDA40X, until they figured out that it's actually more cost-effective to just add single locomotives as required. This approach may not make sense for other countries, since the USA have large tracts that are essentially empty, and they have no electrified freight lines worth mentioning.
Excellent look of double decker 🚂🚋🚃🚋🚃🚋🚃. Never seen before 🏆😄
Congrats to India for proving to America that double stack eletrified intermodal trains _work_ and that their stubbornness to modernising their railroads is causing more harm than is worth the pennies they save.
Well some double stack container trains are 1.5km to 2 km log like "Sheshnag" and they are connected with 4 locos and run at 100 kmph/62 mph.
True but desiel trains are more powerful
@@Nipalalalala17726 more powerful than 6000 / 9000 / 12000 hp with even more tractive effort....?

Very interesting video. India is making great steps forward and this can only please us.
Here in Europe, and especially in my country (Italy), double-stacking would be impossible also for the presence of tunnels. But I have a question: doesn't the height of the catenary and the need to use such large pantographs create problems with electrical contact due to the greater amplitude of the oscillations? I wonder if this results to speed limitations. Or am I wrong?
Both the pantographs and the catenary should be good for 200 km/h as per the High Reach Pantograph specification RDSO/2007/EL/SPEC/0054. Whether that is possible to achieve under real-life conditions, I don't know.
The power line could be lower if they are using lowered floor container cars like in north merica
@@rmdhndwiisn’t north america still using diesel locomotives?
@@niccolo_tommasi yes, but what i mean is they can lower the power line by using a lower deck cars like in america
