Awesome video man! Great choice going with the 5.7L V8 as well! I haven't owned anything without a V8 in it since I was a teenager. Even my boat has two V8's in it. Not the best on gas, but the power and sound alone is more than worth it for me :)
My computer is the 0411 silver box computer while yours is probably the "black" box type. Either way, you will need PCM schematics for your 97 4.3 and a 97 5.7. Plus a place to send in your PCM to have a 97 5.7 software put onto it. As far as A/C, most people don't even run with it because it takes a lot of custom work to even move the engine radiator forward, which requires moving the condenser forward. For those that have A/C still, they moved the condenser forward of the radiator support.
I have a 350 swapped 03 s10 and the transmission only is working witb 2nd and 3rd and I have to manually shift it can ya help me with what I need to do to get it to shift all gears
lots of questions. but first how did you do ur computer and wire harness. 97 s10 4.3 5spd, wanting to put in a 5.7 and still run ac and cruise control.
So I see its 4 wheel drive, was it a pretty straight forward swap? Wiring, ecu, motor mounts, exhaust? I have a 2000 s10 4x4 and would like to put a 5.7 in it.
Brett Johnson No, I never sent the PCM out. I programmed it myself using HPTuners. Any kind of swap like this I HIGHLY recommend getting your own tuner. It saves SOO much hassle by not having to send it out every other week. It's not exactly a cut and dry swap when it comes to the PCM.
I know this vid is old but I have a 98 4wd and fixing to do the same swap. But did you have to change the oil pan to clear? The donor motor was out of a full size z71. And also did you have to do a base tune to get it to run? I figured that since i got the harness and computer i coukd just plug and play. Then later go have it tuned
Yes, you need a custom oil pan for 4wd models. If you have the original 5.7 computer and harness, you should be ok, but may need some custom tuning later on for things like EGR, or EVAP crap.
Michael Lawson. Right. Yeah I just wanted to be certain before i go ordering things i don't need. After you completed the swap did the push button 4wd still work or did you have to re wire it
4wd did not need to be rewired. But, you will need the PCM from a 4wd platform because the BCM sends a signal to the PCM that tells it that it is in 4wd low,(4 high works fine) otherwise, the trans will never shift from 1st to 2nd because it thinks its in the 2wd gear ratio.
I was going with simplicity of installation considering the 5.7 was pretty much a direct drop in. The 5.3 requires some modification of the frame should I have chosen to keep A/C. Now, I'm actually kicking myself in the ass for putting the 5.7 in. Granted it does have lots of power and just blip the throttle and it puts you around corners sideways thanks to the G80 locking rear diff. Maybe I'll get another engine and try the 5.3.
I own a 2000 s10 zr2 and am going to at some point drop a 5.3 in it. I was thinking of a 5.7 along time ago but like the 5.3 because it makes more power and in my opinion sounds better even though the 4.3 has the same block as a 5.7 and everything basically bolts up I just prefer the 5.3
your s10 is newer than mine by a year i got a 2001. but it has the same things inside mainly. i want to put a 5.7L in mine and just run it with open headers but the gas is what kill a guy. still gonna do either way. how much lb ft and hp do you get?
Damn that's loud lol. I gotta do this swap on my '00 S10!... Did you have to do much with the motor mounts?? Summit Racing Tod me I'd probably have to drop both $800 on a mount converstion kit- I don't really believe that but... I bet it was a hella lot more difficult dropping that 5.7 in being that's a 4x4 too. Good deal man.
Looks good. How did you get all the gauge to work and is the shift indicator still working and what about the odometer reading? Or was this with a CPI 5.7 and a new ECM and or flash?
I really don't understand your questions?? Everything is factory except the engine. The PCM is the same, except it has the software from a 2002 Express. Odometer never changed because its retained in the cluster.
@@BurninBogey7 Ok got it. I thought you went to a carbed motor and thats what I was asking about as to how you kept your gauges but yeah just reflashing and you would retain everything, ok thanks!

Hunter J. Short If you want the 5.7 V8, get one that came out of a 2002 Express. That way the emissions will match that of the V6. You don't need a bigger gas tank. You are only adding 2 more cylinders, not a rocket ship.

Thanks, but that was just open headers. It sounds better now with exhaust on it.
What all did you change besides the motor and everything around it? Did you have to change the drive shaft, trans?
No changes to driveline. It has the original transmission ,4 wheel drive, engine harness and PCM.
