I bought home my first kakariki and heard no peep out of him... till I played this. So far he'z landed on my arm twice and currently sitting on my head lol xx
They're very cute but PLEASE get them a bigger cage! Kakarikis require an even LARGER cage than what is recommended for their size because of their hyperactivity!!
tameing down is difficult, they are very dominant birds, very teritorial too, someone said a bit like a small dog, when they play they like to nibble with there beaks its not painfull its just playing,i always play grab the tail with mine,he swings his tail left or right and i try and grab it only lightly,if i miss he lightly pecks me its hilarious but he loves it,when he gives in he says "whatever"!
I'm currently playing this on a loud speaker outside hoping our kakariki comes back, she escaped.its working. She's flown down a few times. We just can't catch her
People criticising the size of their cage... Yes, it's small but from a 1 min video, you can't tell how much time they spend out of their cage. I hope they spend a lot of time out! But let's not judge from a little clip, ey?
Agreed, I let my Kakariki's out of their cage every so often anyways. I could understand if it was a budgerigar, but even my budgies have a cage bigger than this.
Im not sure if i will get an answer on such an old upload but i will try. I rescued a 8 month old kakaraki a month ago and her previous owners never tryed to tame her she was never let out her cage. The first 3 days after bringing her home i let her adjust to her new cage and would go quietly talk to her by the cage. Then i started trying offering treats through the bars and have done 2 to 3 times a day since but she still climbs to the tallest point of cage and furthest away from me. I can stand there with the treat through bars for up to half hour and still nothing she wont even come closer to me. She comes out the cage on a afternoon from about 3pm until i go to bed and flys around, she makes all the cute noises in and out of her cage and eats and drinks and takes a bath everyday that i put in her cage but i dont know how else to get her to trust me to just even take a treat through the bars from me. Any suggestions?
Just don’t do treats. Maybe they are just for our viewing pleasures. Just to watch them fly and enjoy themselves. Some animals will never want to be tamed. :)
Cause I got the same birds and the cage that i got for them is triple size than the one I watch at the video. These birds need space cause they love to jump around and their life to be more healthy. P. S Their tails is showing the problem.! I am not heronic or aggressive with my answer (I hope), just I wanted to say my opinion as u asked for it. Everyone is free to do what they like... Thank you and wish you all the best.
@@scypio8191 You are right, i just don't want to be rude and aggressive. We don't know how is everyones pockets, if he can buy a cage or he rescued those birds n he has no money, etc. You never know, but he has to change it if he didn't had it allready🤔🙄
The Cage is to small. If the birds have, the need to fly the whole day in they room. And birds need toy. (Sorry for my bad english, I live in germany.)
Ive just rescued one of these when it was sitting in my garden. i temped it in with seed and caught it. Turns out its missing a tail. Anyway ive played this video and its loves it. Ive recorded it. Is it ok if i post a video of my bird watching your video. Im not sure if i need your permission to do this but thought it best to ask. If it makes it easier, I'll NOT MONETISE it. Just to be safe. Thanks
Nope, the cage is a bit too small for both of them since kakarikis have very long tails, they need a wide and long cage to not have the cage toutch their tail when they move
I hope they can be outside and fly daily This cage is horrible much to small without toys a Swing I dont see fruits or salad .The plumeg looks bad..Sorry but this is only sad
Honestly, People are talking bout the cage. I put mine into a slightly larger than the one in the video, Only due to them being inside tamed birds, they have a much larger one outside but they don’t run around and play much. And during the time in the outside cage, when I go to retrieve them and bring them inside, it’s like they were never tamed at all. And their Tail feathers got rugged up in the Large cage so I brought a medium sized cage into my room and they are as happy as ever with neither biting anymore
Hello everyone ive just got a Kakariki bout 4wks ago n would really appreciate ny advise on how to tame them down.I interact with him every day all through the day but haven't even managed to get to touch him.If i leave the cage open he has no fear of comming out.
Well sorry to say that but having ONE kakariki already is wrong, birds always need to have company, so to treat them fairly you need to keep at least two of their kind. Keeping birds alone is animal cruelty. It seems cute and funny when they get sort of addicted to "their" human, but in fact that's a psychic disorder due to loneliness. Birds are very social animals. Humans can become their friends, but never ever substitute a partner for them. So do your bird a favor and get him a kakariki friend. You will also notice soon that when they're not alone, they are a lot less unsure about new things, they give each other a feeling of safety and thus will become tame a lot faster (and a lot fairer too, as then you don't force them by loneliness but instead offer them a fair friendship). Usually it also helps to find out what they like to eat best and teach them that your hand is nice by handing them their fav foods by hand. They will learn fast that your hand is nice to them and will get interested in investigating you, landing on your arms and shoulders and letting you touch them. Give them time though and don't force them.
the owner of these birds needs to be locked in a toilet for a month to teach them a lesson. Kakariki need at least 6 metres of flight for basic survival.

My male parrot always responds but the female dosent care at all
For me it's always vice versa, maybe it's their personality? I know my male likes to keep to himself and rarely likes to leave his cage.
