  • KITPLANES editor at large Paul Dye takes you on a flight in his wife's Van's RV-6 to show what it's like to fly primarily with reference to angle of attack information from the Garmin G3X Touch EFIS in the airplane. This is an updated edit to better coordinate the audio cues from the G3X Touch system to the simulated visual AoA indications you'd see in real life.

... it would be worth mentioning first ... that we are exercising such stall actions, because they are used for the purposes of landing, as their main purpose. Aside from (while still in the air) checking the aircraft if it could perform a safe landing stall, once we get to the ground, and transition phase :).

Wow is this in an RV? What was bank angle at for the 80 mph. Also any flaps at those speeds?

Annoying those bips on the beginning, should beep only on the second yellow, the one with the arrow! And why does V bar exists? Cross bar is waaaay better

    Paul,
I have had my Garmin G3X for two years now and still cannot get the AOA to work correctly. I have calibrated it per the manual 20 times, yes 20. Every time I fly it gives me totally different speeds. Sure, could be a nice tool to have if it only worked. I gave up on it and disregard it now. What a pain. The instructions are simple, but if it only worked. Comment?

We've done a bit of checking on this. Is it possible the pitot and AoA lines are swapped? We're told that can cause some of the issues you're seeing.

I think the copilot was asleep, he didn't even help with radios or anything, that's just ridiculous
