Great end user video! I love this kind of info👍🏼
Very helpful thank you.
Great tutorial... I'll hopefully having to go through this soon. Well, not "hopefully" with regards to the costs of the db... ugh that's pricey.
Can you please clarify the GTN coupon code discussed at the 7:30 mark? Are there databases updates included when purchasing a new GTN radio that are redeemed with this code?
Great information - New to the G3X & getting close to panel completion & fire-up. What memory size cards should one order, 5 each?
8-32 GB cards are good.
Thanks! After Hours of searching, now I’m confident I can cracjk the code and actually find my GTN750XI and G3X system ID’s!
Now if I could just find a way to have the G3X Touch display “% Engine Power” the way the old G3X Legacy model does🤷🏼♂
As long as you have a MAP sensor installed you can.
Hello. I would like to know how I can add more airfield runways in the G3X (map)? Thank you.
I get that you would keep the non database card in the G3X, but I thought you were supposed to leave the database card in the GTN650? I seem to remember not having it in mine once and it was problem. Is this a difference between the 650 and 650Xi? Thanks and great video!
Thanks for watching Robert, You are correct, the GTN 650 did require it however the GTN 650Xi does not as it stores everything in the unit.
Do you have to purchase the updates every cycle?
If you remove the SD cards in the G3X, it won't save flight data or data to upload to FlyGarmin Log Books. I have a GTN 25. I should pull the SD after updating?
Yes pull the database cards from the G3X and insert blank ones for data logging.
@@MidwestPanels Ah...ok. 👍
Ever notice how you don't actually get any support from Garmin if you are not a dealer?
Since when is the database card left out of the GTN? Or did you use a different card for the nav database update?
Since the GTN Xi series came out. You now load the database into the units. Older equipment needs the card still.
@@MidwestPanelsahhhhh…. I did not know that. See, ya can teach an old dog new tricks.
What size SD cards do you recommend?
Really anything up to a 32GB. We typically use 16GB.
Great video, horribly antiquated technical process. Garmin needs to make this possible through a store on device or at worst through a modern mobile smart phone app.
Yeah, that was exactly what I was thinking. That, and why is that data so expensive?
@@StepAttitude The expense is just a simple supply and demand model… the market is small and they are the leader.
You're telling me that $13000 GTN doesn't come with the databases already installed?
Few things frustrate me more than the price of avionics. Not only do you first pay $50k (the price of an entire luxury car) for some hopelessly outdated computer hardware, you then have to pay a grand a year for data that the US government collects on the taxpayer's dime. (Geo-referenced plates, terrain data, airport data, it's all freely provided by the FAA/USGA). It's just... wrong.
