I played this to my Mum 2 years ago as she lay in hospital. Life long fan as I am. My aim was to bring a little joy into her Covid restricted stay.
The first part of the song made her cry.
The lyrics more poignant than either of us realised. Several weeks later she passed but l'm so glad I got to share this moment with her. We held one another and I won't ever forget that moment. Melancholic but joyous ABBA. Lyrically nothing comes close.
Still brings tears to my eyes. ABBA
Voyage on Saturday with my Dad and niece. Wish she was there to share the moment
This for me is Abba at their finest. 50 years on. Incredible they can still put out an instant classic. For you Mum 🪽😘

UPDATE: I’ve been blown away by the response to my post below. Thank you to everyone for their comments and the time taken to describe the new music. Having read the responses it’s really helped me and painted a picture of the new music 😊. The dream would be future Lyric videos with highlighted lyrics that vibrate in time with the music, as well as the written music underneath. Just like that school tv programme Music Time when I was little 😂 Enjoy the music and thank you again ❤️ x
I’m now deaf and can no longer listen to music. It’s been the hardest part of coming to terms with my deafness over the last twenty years. I always comforted myself by saying said at least I’d heard all of ABBAs music. My heart sank when I saw the news yesterday but am so happy for those who can hear it too. This video has helped give a lyrical flavour, thank you. If any ABBA fans out there can describe their new songs in comparison to their previous music I’d appreciate it.
    Thank you.
    Enjoy the music everyone x

During the verse I'm hearing a lot of 80's synth sounds kind of like "One of Us". But then leading up to the chorus there's a lot of orchestral parts and disco vibe, I especially recognize some piano jingle from Dancing Queen. Their vocals are a bit aged at certain points but holds up really well when sung by both together, instantly recognizable as the Abba sound.

They sound older, so the vocals sounds diffrent but still good. I would say this perticular song is not as good as the old stuff, but still not bad. I enjoyed it. What stood out a bit in this song is a little darker synth bass sound in the background that I liked. Sorry about your ears...its one of my greatest fears to lose my hearing.

The way "I Still Have Faith In You" is a song about their personal journey to deciding to reunite as a group and "Don't Shut Me Down" is a message to the audience to have an open mind and remember that they're not the same people they were 40 years ago... this is a BRILLIANT comeback. It's emotional and fun and says loudly *yeah we've still got it*. I'm so excited to hear more of what they have in store

I am in ABBA's age bracket and live in NYC . My niece lives in London and for her birthday I wanted to get tickets for her and a friend to go to the show. She had a few friends who have seen it and loved it. She was really excited about it , and then said, "But I would really rather go with you." Talk about melt my heart! Unfortunately, my health is not great and although 10 years ago I would have been having drinks at the Cavern in Liverpool, home of the Beatles (who I saw live in NYC!), now it's not possible. She insisted that we wait a few months and see how I feel. (I know that I won't be able to go -it's ok. I just REALLY want her to go. It's music history!! And it's ABBA!!) I am a classic rock fan, but NOBODY cannot enjoy ABBA! I'm buying her an ABBA Jacket, also.
Both of your comments are so touching. I feel that Agnetha and Frida expressed raw emotions in front of the world...live! They were born to sing together, just as Benny and Bjorn were born to write the music for them! They (and many of us) have traveled many paths over the years. It's a gift to have them return to tell us, and teach us (of many different ages), what they have learned on the "Journey" called "Life" .
Total class, talent, dignity, resilience and humility.

      Happened to me too!
I think it's because, like I Still Have Faith In You, this song was recorded around the time of planning of the Voyage concert, so this is literally an expression of how the members feel about the whole ordeal, but in musical form. Thus, it just hits too close to home, almost like this is the one real moment in the concert and this is actually ABBA in front of us (and strangely, it looked the most real out of all the songs for me).
And the fact that Agnetha, arguably the face of ABBA, did her monologue (which was the last one out of the four) before this song was pretty special too.

I still remember sitting in the rain watching them live in Sydney in 1977 - I even got half a day off school so I could get there on time. Their music has always been with me. Songs like slipping through my fingers when my kids (and now grandkids) started school, Dancing queen that my mother played for me every time she saw me dance (and she wanted it played at her funeral), Agnetha's "I stand alone" when my marriage broke down .... so much love for them. Today is September 2, 2023
    Exactly two years ago,
ABBA announced in an unforgettable worldwide live broadcast on RUclips
its return after almost 40 years and the premiere of its two comeback songs.
"I still have faith in you"
has all the passion and courage, the joys and sorrows, of ABBA's career.
a wonder that is in my Top 10 of the best songs in the history of ABBA
    "Don't shut me down"
is the ABBA Masterpiece of the New Millennium
it has the piano glissados of "Dancing Queen",
the rhythm of "One of us",
the introduction and end of "Thank you for the music"
    and the angel of "Waterloo"
I enter my Top 5 of all ABBA songs
    Two years later,
    we fans are forever grateful
    to Sweden's Fabulous Four.
    GOD bless forever
    Agnetha, Benny, Björn, Anni Frid
my best regards and love from

as a sound engineer, and kinda composer too.. i can and wilöl say that, it's not the easiest thing to make something sound both "modern" in a sense that, the sound is absolutely clear and crisp, and also "vintage" , like it actually is original tune from the late 70's... i personally tip my hat for this band, for the bravery and hard work of.. still being brave enough to just be themselves... no second guessing, no "we need to ultra modernize our music" etc... it's just... ABBA, in all the wonderfull ways they were back in the day, and i frigging LOVE IT ! .. i mean... would DEREK here liked if it was something like... breakbeat, metalcore, or dubstep ABBA instead of them just sounding themselves ? there honestly is no one , especially in the modern music scene, which sound like ABBA... there have been some cheap imitations over the years... but.. this... this is just golden, and unique.

It would have been more amazing if they had updated their sound a bit instead of imitating a 1980 record. They used to update their sound often in their career. Why not now? I find it difficult to understand why they wanted such a dated sound. I am not a Madonna fan, but she at least updates her sound often rather than just being an 80s nostalgia singer.

This. If my all time favourite band did a comeback in 10 or 20 years, knowing that they're not as iconic as ABBA, I dream that they would come back with something to please their fans and give them the sound that made them unique. ABBA has done that. I'm not a super fan, but my first thought when I heard the new songs was that they could have been included in any of their albums of the 70s. That takes a lot of love for their music/sound, for their fans, and a whole lot of talent.

"Don't shut me down" is the last masterpiece of ABBA
now in my Top5 of all ABBA songs
fantastic song with all ABBA memories:
    * glisado piano reminds "Dancing Queen"
    * xilofon reminds "Mamma Mía" (marimba)
    * solo intro and end with Benny piano and Agnetha voice, reminds "Thank you for the music"
the introduction with Agnetha is antologic
    and what a power chorus!
and much power in second chorus, fantastic!
and the last minute... is absolutly extraoridinary!
    Congratulations to

I have listened to this song over and over for weeks before commenting. I was listening somewhat in disbelief, I guess. I think it is important to note that I am just a casual ABBA fan, not a devotee who knows every song, just the hits. Not only does this song rank among the greats, it does something those songs couldn’t. You can feel the love, hope, forgiveness, understanding. The grace, warmth and vulnerability. It is all in there. This is not a song that could have been conceived or effectively performed by a younger ABBA. It took time, it took maturity, wisdom, and ultimately love to make it happen. ABBA has once again shown us they are really about love in the most moving and powerful way. This song is a masterpiece. If they never sing another song, this is enough. This song brings it all full circle. Thank you ABBA; for everything.

Man, I couldn't have said it better ! All these emotions are in there, and they can only come from the wisdom that hindsight provides. And it's still as fun as what you hope to get from an upbeat ABBA song. They really hit the nail on the head, and I simply can't wait for the album, even though the only stuff I have from them are the greatest hits.

@@Cicilo1983 I've got Voyage on preorder. I never do that. I didn't realize it but all of their albums are on their RUclips channel. Every single song! Their new music has me digging into their old stuff and I like it! It has what a lot of music from today is completely missing. Fun.

@@gregbruns8442 I have a feeling that I'll be exploring their back catalogue in 2022. But not on RUclips - I like my music the good old fashioned way. ;) And yes, music is missing the "fun" element today - as well as melody, emotion, musical/vocal talent, creativity, originality and authenticity. There's still good music out there, but man, has it become difficult to get your hands on it !!!!!!!

What can I say... I moved to Sweden because of ABBA, I lived there for ten years and learned Swedish. I am now a professional translator from Swedish to Spanish, so I owe them not only the happy times I have spent listening to their music, but also ten wonderful years in Sweden and now, back in Spain, my profession.
Such a wonderful present to all your fans!

And just like that - REAL music comes rushing back into the world. I feel sorry for any recording artist who dares to put out an album the same day that ABBA does on November 5th. The world will be busy enjoying their "Voyage". Welcome back, ABBA.

From what I know, being in the music business, many artists are scrambling to move their release dates as we speak. Even pressing plants are scrambling to press ABBA's vinyl records, since vinyl is not as prevalent. Many are taken by surprise as this has been one of the best kept secrets of 2021. But labels late their albums, so not as secret as one would think. It will definitely be fun to watch.
On another topic.....I would not say the words 'Just Like That' around ABBA or ABBA fans. That is a can of worms best left unopen. LOL. 😂
