Webb is such an amazing piece of engineering, it’s truly mind blowing….
It's a master-class in engineering, logistics, international co-operation, imagination, math, generosity of spirit and invention. It has opened up a _whole new field of astronomy_ in the mid-infrared wavelength range.

How does the sunshield cope with micrometeorites? I imagine a tiny fragment of rock hurtling at supersonic speeds would be enough to rip through every layer.. 😟
The sunshield layers are actually seamed with what we call "rip stops" - so a puncture can't turn into a tear that rips through the whole sunshield layer, it would only tear til it hit a rip stop. You can see a photo of it here: jwst.nasa.gov/content/observatory/sunshield.html

When I moved to London, the underground station right next to my house had just opened. For me, it was as if it had always been there, and if I had moved in a year earlier, it really would have been something I desired. Fortunately, years earlier, some people had the foresight to provide the 'residents' of that area with an access point to public transport. I do not know who those people are, who paid for it, yet there I was in London, gifted with this underground station right next to my house.
The JWST is such a project, and I sometimes wonder how many more people have started projects in the past that will brighten up my future. But knowing about them is sort of spoiling it.
The sunshield is an amazing piece of technology and ingenuity all on its own. For anyone wondering how big a tennis court is, a tennis court is 78ft (23.77m) in length. The courts used for singles matches are 27ft (8.23m) wide, while doubles courts are 36ft (10.97m) wide. The total area of a tennis court is usually 260.87m² -the total playing area of a doubles court. A singles court, which is often marked within the doubles court has a total playing area of 195.65m².
So NASA, can you actually give the measurements or at least tell us, if you mean a single or double court?

It's sad that you think the earth is round, with absolutely no proof that it is you believe what they want you to believe. For those that know and believe that the earth is flat has the proof from THE CREATOR who made this planet we live on in 6 days 7th day He rested. NASA however, is a lie indeed there is no outta space nor is there any planets we live in a firmament aka dome that proof is in Bible. How do you explain the rainbow don't you need glass for it to appear NASA means to deceive in Hebrew look at the logo it's a serpent tongue

Nope, I think we are too late, the universe was a lot more conductive to life a a few billion years ago, now it's generally too cold for life. We have a rather unique spot.
It could take years to get enough data for life bearing planets that only transit once per year or so. Hot Jupiters are easy, they transit every few days. 6 to 8 weeks of data is plenty to tease out the atmosphere. The data will come, you just have to be patient.
Earthling's have probes on Mars. At an absolute minimum, all Earthling's are aliens.

CMBR: (Cosmic Microwave Background Radiation): Consider the following: Per QED (Quantum Electro Dynamics, whereby 'em' interacts with the electrons in atoms and molecules) and QCD (Quantum Chromo Dynamics, whereby 'em' interacts with the nucleus of atoms), matter has to exist for 'em' to be given off by that matter. What matter exists in outer space for that microwave 'em' to be seen by us? And 'if' it were from when matter first came into existence during the fairy tale of the 'singular big bang', that 'em' should be long gone by now and should not even be able to be seen by us.
BB -> Matter and 'em' are created -> 'em' moves at the speed of light, matter moves more slowly -> (Billions of years go by) -> matter (and us) here ..........................................'em' long gone. (And there is no matter 'out here' yet for any 'em' to come back to us via QED or QCD).
