Yes! Love this one. When I first heard it, I thought it was a deep thinking song. Lew wrote light-hearted songs as well as the deep songs.

This is the first time I heard this song and I love it. It reminds me pretending be Roy Rogers, Gene Autry and more. I would ride my stick horse and squint my eyes like Roy Rogers. It was a time without problems, total happiness, and I never noticed that we were involved in World War II as a child of 5 years old. I wish we could restore this country to those happy times when we respected our parents, our teachers, our country and, above all, God Almighty. We could pray in school and pledge allegiance to our flag.and we did not even think that it would offend anyone or did we care. I think one of the things that would mean more to me is that we have real heroes like Audy Murphy and others. I love the Statler's and Maple Street Memories. God Bless The United States of America, love and protect us from all evil.

This is the first time I too have heard this song and I can't agree with you more, other than to add God Bless Canada too. I almost forgot about my stick horse; but I do remember rolling old tires along the road (I was a bit older than 5 at that time) and kicking tin cans too, also would step my heel onto an empty tin can that had covers on both ends and use them to make the sound of a horse trotting along. We also did the prayer and God's prayer in school; but here in Canada we'd also sing God Save the Queen and O' Canada every morning, then students took turns each morning to pass out cod liver oil capsules in the bottle cap to each student, those were the days when seldom did anyone complain about anything. And I'll add, that if we got a strapping in school, we'd more than likely get one when we got home too, nowadays, parents run to the school to attach the teacher for trying to correct a student with words. Part of our problem today in this world was caused by the removal of the strap around 1963. I got it and deserved it and I've never heard anyone yet say they didn't deserve it. Eric from Nova Scotia Canada ... ps, don't forget about Zorro and Paliden (Have Gun Will Travel) thanks for the memories.

To Lauren Defreese-you are right about Lew; I miss him, too. It's a shame he had Cro hn's Disease. Without it, I'm sure he'd've stayed with the group until the day they retir ed.

@@annem8152 I'm glad you liked Jimmy, too. To me, he fit like a glove; it just too bad there are so many Jimmy bashers out there; Lew personally chose him to be his successor when he saw him at a ski lodge in W. Virginia.

let me run and check the album. Lew Dewitt wrote it. It did have that "Don" feel about it though.
