    Thanks for the timely video. Our rig has multiple filters, most installed by the previous owner. I am not a fan of using bottled water, unless it is refilled like you did. Our water is filtered at least three times, if not four, before drinking it.

    • @OurJourneyInMyles
      @OurJourneyInMyles  2 года назад +1

      Glad it was helpful! My main issue was I had to REMOVE the .5 Micron carbon block filter from my regiment of filters to have 35 to 40 psi at my inlet to the coach! Many of the RV Parks have overall system pressure that is TOO LOW to push water thru the filter! By removing this .5 micron block filter, I really had no real protection from bad things in the water,........but I did have pressure. That's why we then used the refrigerator filter and Brita filter for final filtering for ALL our drinking water.

    Mark you have a plastic tube cutter on board? Besides that and your endless drill bits (like I’ve never seen such a set) what tools don’t you have? Anyway, I’ve watched other rv channels install the Acuva units and your detailed explanations and on-screen captions told me far more than I ever knew about installing this unit. But more importantly, you made it clear what to order and from where. I cannot thank you enough for your time and effort in producing this video. Oh, and hi Sue! Mark and Sue, thanks for the Acuva info. I used the link to buy one tonight. I'm going to install it on the fridge supply line. We get all our drinking water and ice from the fridge dispenser. I like the LEDs and the start/stop action. Again thanks for the information presented in such an entertaining way.

    • @OurJourneyInMyles
      @OurJourneyInMyles  2 года назад

      That is an ideal setup,.........but keep this in mind. The unit requires 12 psi and .3 liters per minute flow rate to activate the UV LED lights. The flow rate to fill a glass of water will work perfect. I am guessing, but I would personally not expect the way the ice maker "sips" water that it would reach the .3L/min flow rate for purified water on the fly. You will have to be satisfied with it using the water sanitized and captured in the supply line to the ice maker being made into ice as "way better than you had before!!" The supply line volume from the Acuva to the refrigerator will be your poor mans "tank" of treated water.

    I wish they made one that would work like the whole house filter. Then you would not need the outside filter, or your Flowmaster -just use the Acuva, but it looks like it will not push that much water through the UV system, other than to fill a glass. We get water through our fridge door, which has a filter at the fridge then we have a whole house filter (in the MH) and a clear20 filter at the outside spigot. Drops our water pressure a lot but I don't want to drink the water from the fridge otherwise.

      We did a video on the filters that we currently use about two years ago. It is still current. See "RV LIVING- FRESH WATER TANK SANITIZING, FILTERS & SOFTENER MAINTENANCE-EP51" ruclips.net/video/M1KYaF7yyIw/видео.html
      The pre-filter shown in this Acuva video will remove lead, heavy metals, chlorine (99%), chromium 6, mercury, carcinogens, and other contaminants (99%), as well as turbidity, unpleasant odors, and improves taste. Sorry, but I do not specifically know if I am protected against PFAs. I know an RO system would again need to be sanitized.

      We still rely on this Acuva UV Sanitizer for all our drinking/coffee & tea and cooking water. We bottle 10 gallons of water using the Acuva UV unit every time we decide to travel without hookups for a few days. This is what Sue prefers to do for HER. I (Mark) will make coffee with this water directly from our RV water tank as well. The water entering the RV first goes through our Clearsource 5 and 1 micron filters that are attached to the park water supply. The water then travels to the Advanced Pre-Filter that is mounted next to the Acuva Unit, and supplies the flow it sanitizes. From the UV unit, the water flows directly to the sink countertop faucet. We would recommend folks get this the day they pick up their rig! We do not have a Berkey. (Too big & in the way.)

  • @dancallahan2164

    Why not install on the water line into fridge? Seems you would not need the added faucet, extra fittings and tubing. The fridge is where we get all our drinking water from now. I have added a pump and use 3 gallon jugs of bottled water into the fridge now. This looks like a better idea with less work.

    • @OurJourneyInMyles

      We have a friend that draws water from a 5 gallon jug as well. He has a small pump to send the water up from his basement. Our fridge has an ice maker. The flow when demanded is really, really slow. I wonder if the sanitizer would even turn on. This would require looking into! Filling a glass of water would be fine. We really like having the faucet. We use about 1.5 +/- gallons a day.

    I purchased and installed the Acuva ArrowMAX 1.2 UV-LED Water Purifier in my RV about a year ago. I recently went to Acuva's website to order a replacement "Advanced Pre-Filter" and had a less than acceptable experience. Acuva charges $50.00 for the filter and their online order system apparently defaults to the $27.00 2--day DHL shipping (even though I selected the slower $10.00 shipping option. I didn't learn about the high shipping cost until I received an invoice by email with the higher charge. I called Acuva the next morning and they said they couldn't change the shipping and that they would cancel the order. A few hours later, I received another email with the DHL shipping tracking number. I called Acuva back again and they said they were sorry that they could not intercept the order but, offered to refund $17.00 for the premium shipping (which they said they never do). I received the filter 2 days later and looked it up on the web. It's made by Woder in Tulsa OK and the part number is WD-4K-ADV-JG (woder.com/products/wd-4k-adv-jg/). Woder sells the filter retail online for $35.00 and no shipping charge. Acuva is price-gouging their customers for replacement/consumable parts. I like Acuva's system and it works as advertised. However, I won't do business with a company that gouges their customers on parts. Acuva should not be selling a $35.00 filter for $67.00.

      I think I bought my first one from Acuva as well to make certain I had the correct part number. We now have it in the "Fresh Water System Equipment" section in our Amazon Store for under $40 with free shipping as of 11-25-2022. I would still only buy any extra 1/4 plastic tubing you might need from them directly. The stuff I bought at a big box store that looked identical, didn't work as well. The stuff from Acuva was much thicker and did not leak.
