Biggest flaw with I-45 mainly from 610 to near Greenspoint is the lack of enter and exit only lanes. Having lanes merge on to the freeway is just asking for slowdowns and accidents. They reconstructed the freeway north of Beltway 8 in the 90s and did a great job. They really should have widen the freeway sooner south of Beltway 8, at least from Little York. That would have addressed a lot of the backups in the evening.

I didn't know IH-45 after Montgomery County was being constructed
Finally this year this ultimate I-45 project is gonna start. Next thing you know you'd feel like you is not in Houston because it looks very different in downtown once it's 2029-2030.
I am so curious what it is going to be like when it is done.
