    Here's a great tool for learning openings: chessbook.com/hanging-pawns
    Chessbook allows you to import and practice your repertoire. It focuses on moves people actually play as well as your mistakes. Connect it to your lichess or chess com accounts to correct the biggest gaps in your repertoire!

    This video on the Dutch is so streamlined, most videos goes over my head and I have to watch them like 5-6 times to absorb it all. This is so easy to learn from, you earned my sub man.

    I had a constant struggle with playing black against 1.d4
    I tryed ...d5, the Kings Indian, the Nimzo Indian, etc. For some time I already played the dutch, and it really was madness. Either I won pretty cool or got beaten pretty badly xD
    Now I really am looking forward to this series, because I never had the feeling that I understood the Dutch enough to play it as my main choice, and maybe I can change that by studying your videos (I really do stop every minute and write something down in my own opening book). I absolutly love your content. I enjoyed it when I started roughly two years ago and did not fully grasp everything you said and I can enjoy it even more today. Thank you for all the effort, I appreciate it so much and I am sure tons of people feel the same way!

    Funnily enough, when you covered the Queen's Indian, I felt like we must be gearing up for the Dutch! I'm a Dutch player at heart, but I often end up chickening out and simply playing 1. ... Nf6. No longer!

    I just decided I'll play the Dutch in my tournament game 2 hours from now - I knew you didn't have a series on it so I was going to settle for something by SLCC but this was such a pleasant surprise! Thank you Stjepan.
    Also, I've been having a real hard time finding a fighting setup for black against the London system (1. d4 2. Bf4), I've settled on 1..d5 2..c5 for now but I was wondering if you could do a series on facing the London System? I know it would be really helpful to a lot of friends too, because we all hate playing against it haha

    i play and study only Dutch (and Bird openings) with the 3 variations (Classical, Leningrad and Stonewall), so i can only be happy to finally have the series on my favorite channel.
    The relative level i play, my opponents don't know about these openings then it's a quite good weapon to be specialized in. Furthermore, they are dynamic and leads to interesting games.

      Wait, according to the Chess.com engine, you should play e5 after d6. If white plays dxc7, you just take back. You have a better center and better development. According to that same engine you are up around 1.5 pawns as black.

    This is awesome! No doubt this is my favorite chess channel. My only complaint is that Stjepan and I have different definitions of the word "tomorrow". I think it means the day immediately after today. But when Stjepan says the next video is coming tomorrow, it can mean the next day, one week, or one month. But alas cannot complain when we get awesome and free content.

    I am so glad you covered this opening. It has been part of my repertoire my hole life. The first opening I ever learned was the Stonewall variation. The Classical is my favourite, although objectively the Leningrad is the best setup. You did forget about the Antoshin Dutch. I play all of the setups of the Dutch and study it in detail. I ever study Birds Opening in detail. I use the Dutch in tournaments and get nice wins with it. I myself am sick of all these King’s Indian Defences. I actually have been studying the Queen’s Indian Defence recently to compliment my understanding of the Dutch in greater detail. So I find it interesting that you started with the Queen’s Indian and are now adding the Dutch into the works. I am doing the opposite.

    This opening reminds me of a student I had back in my high school chess club, he was really talented and I decided to choose him as my student(we were divided into mentors and students depending on whether or not we knew how to play) because I was the strongest player in school and I tried my best to teach him chess despite being a 1400, he got really good but stopped playing after the semester was over, I wonder if he would've kept playing if he had a better teacher

  • @marklyell9309
    @marklyell9309 4 года назад

    I have studied and played all variations of the Dutch for over 20 years. I disagree with your summary though you mentioned some important ideas. The Stonewall Dutch is in fact the soundest line of the three systems. The weak square on e5 is compensated for by central control. Kramnik said the Stonewall is one of the few openings where Black controls the centre. You will see that it is a very sound system positionally once you study it properly. Kingside attack is not really the main strategy. It's keeping a solid structure and controlling the centre. The dark-squared bishop usually sits on d6. Development of the c8 bishop can be delayed for a while without serious consequences and it can be developed to b7 or a6 or even d7-e8 sometimes. It's actually the most solid system because the consequences of a single mistake can be a lot more costly in the Leneingrad or Classical variations though I recommend studying and playing all of them.

  • @Peter-ih2tn
    @Peter-ih2tn 4 года назад

    Dutch Stonewall makes both light-squared bishops bad, not just the black one. It is good if you want to play with fewer pieces.
