I'm glad the way SRPG Studio resources normalize generative AI is being called out. It always weirded me out how the server that you almost certainly have to join to learn how to use it has a channel/thread specifically for AI art.
3:25 Titania was a member of the Crimean Royal Knights, she met Greil while she was on a mission in Gallia which was after Greil fled with the *Fire Emblem*
I think one of the big things about AI generated stuff that attracts people is the idea of it being instant like People want their stuff to look as "professional" as possible and when they look at like how it long it would take to get there it's like. they don't wanna do it and they burn down 50 trees to get the computer to do it instead and then they lose sight of what they were going for in the first place It's like that one scene in the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie where Greg is trying to gain muscle mass for wrestling and his dad is happily explaining how he could do it, but then after he mentions that it takes "like six months" Greg immediately loses interest, cheats his way up with Ankle Weights, and then immediately gets bodied by Patty
Hey there, I’m the creator of the hack you focused on in the end. Just wanted to say a quick thank you for showing some interest but also mention a few things. A friend sent me this video and I’m glad to have watched it, it solidified my resolve in not using AI (Not that I had intended to anyway, but still) I just find there to be more merit in a story that isn’t written by AI and portraits that look natural + Original. And I cannot take credit for the sprites and portraits. I’m not the best at drawing, so everything you saw there was commissioned. I know the point is that “Hey, this looks interesting because it’s not AI” but also I can’t exactly take credit for the art. Just the designs and how they look.
Also shoutouts to iron emblem and iron emblem gaiden. First one used a generic soldier M/F portraits for all of the characters, and second one goes even harder by using class cards for every single unit. Almost no portraits, still manages to be insanely peak.
Random but this video is how I found out my FEE3 project had been posted despite the fact I've been looking at notifications all the time lmao. Thanks for complimenting the style as well. But yeah, I agree with this, sucks to see AI stuff in FEE3, it's cool that you're encouraging people to try making things themselves.
Making the art is really fun though! Like, I can’t really draw worth a crap, but drawing my characters to put them in my own personal mod is really cool.
Okay, I rambled, so I will try to do as you did in a comment and try to convey my ideas in less rambly ways. 1- Using lazy shortcuts that don't require much effort on your part is not too much unlike getting help from someone else to do it for you. The only difference is that in one case you are shoving responsibility of a feature of your game onto the lap of someone else who then makes that part of the product, and in the other case you shove the responsibility onto an asset that was either already made by someone or not made by anyone in case of AI or leaving it blank. 2- Intent can be seen even in things people didn't make themselves, just as you pointed out. Someone using Lysithea or Astram in a hack for you is just stealing, but it serves a purpose. Ultimately, I agree that using AI art or using art that already exists is lazy and robs you of an opportunity to learn how to make sprites yourself (or robs someone else the opportunity to make sprites themselves if you ask for help). But that doesn't detract from the rest of the product, and even choice of which art to steal is in and of itself a form of intent. I might be bummed that a fangane straight up has no sprites, but I won't just not play it because of it, after all, maybe the game and story are good even if the sprite department is "Blue Caesar" or "AI generated" weak or straight up non-existant.
That's lots of rambling, but overall you're right. It's like with AI voice - helpful for one off background extras or some generic npcs who's only purpose is to buy all the junk you're carrying so you can focus on more important characters. For anything else, it is very yucky.
Finally watching this video, I saw the thumbnail while going to sleep last night, looking forward to your thoughts. I will say, FEU does definitely deserve some amount of criticism for this... As a community they enable platform and allow some truly ridiculous things (including several white supremacists) and The policy they have on AI stealing works posted to FEU is that it is allowed (and on the artist to take the initiative asking the AI person not to use their work). This is also not their first time running into issues promoting AI slop. hopefully they do tighten the rules for next year's FEE3 but I'm skeptical of that actually happening due to their history with generative AI.
I think you are missing why so much actuall artists (let alone people who would like to learn the skills) have the cynicism to generate ai art instead of improving, they are making the problem worse ofc, but they see how little the artists are/were respected that they don't see anything of value being lost by the death of art in this way.
I'll certainly agree that using recolored and slightly edited Tellius assets for your submission to something like this is pretty uncreative, but the points about using AI(definitely the image-generating type considering the ramble) genuinely confused me. I mean maybe, but I'm not particularly inclined to believe this person did not in fact just open Paint for that.
I'll try to explain better in this comment since the video got a little rambly 1. Using AI means there's no original character design elements like the stuff that indicate Mia is free spirited like I talked about in the video. Since it's all ripped/stolen there's no true artistic intent which makes your character more shallow as a result 2. I didn't say they just recolored in paint, I just used blue Caesar as an example of something you could do without using AI. Everyone has to start somewhere and at least trying basic sprite edits and getting feedback on how to improve is better than just telling a computer to make Geoffrey for you.
The thing is, the creators stated in the video description of their trailer that the game makes "heavy use" of AI-generated art. So the accusation is not coming out of nowhere. It's something they've admitted to.
I hope they just ban projects with AI ""art"" from feu. People that need to resort to using ai genned shit to seem more "legit" or whatever, take themselves and what they make too seriously.
Blue Ceaser for FE Heroes

This is honestly what led to me not posting on there anymore.

Mhmm. It's still very possible to make something cool with creative limitations without resorting to stuff like this
@5Points 🤓 um, actually I think it's called restore 'staff'.
the venn diagram of people who think character design is about nothing but visual appeal and people who love ai art is a circle
Sonic characters when recolor: WOW OMG THIS IS LAZY AND BAD LOLOLOLOLOL
Fire Embelm unit when recolor: This is perfectly fine 👍
Is that a Gales of Nayeli shoutout in a Five Points video? Woohoooo

Great video!
Blue Geoffrey looks like it's Geoffreys head on another tellius characters body.
Also love the random matthis appearance

As someone with autism, I think that portrait looks great and that's a good way to try and convey the idea through just the portrait.
@@absoul112 I sent your compliments to the artist

Damn gotta cancel my romhack now i used portraits from the fe repo 😭
Man, it's fine.
There's nothing wrong with using specific resources people made to help other people's projects.
I was being sarcastic lol
