The BEST 32’ Posaune I know! - Quand Jesus Naquit à Noël (Balbastre) Paul Fey - Thomaskirche Leipzig

- I hope you enjoy this recording of C. Balbastre's wonderful "Quand Jesus Naquit à Noël" which was recorded on the Bach Organ of St. Thomas Church in Leipzig! This piece is part of Balbastre's "Recueil de Noëls". The wonderful Bach-Organ was built by Woehl and is perfect for the rendition of J. S. Bach's organ music, but also does a great job with this french baroque music.

Bravo Paul
Merci Paul

Wunderschön gespielt ☀️☀️☀️

👌
I love organ music. It is so calming. I listen to you playing almost every day. You are so talented.
Hallo, lieber Paul.
Vielen lieben Dank, Steffen!

4 volte bravo!!
Thank you so much! Grazie! 😊
Oh I love that action noise, so very rare these days in the UK. Your noise isn't bad either.! I make you right on the 32', it's huge full-fat gravitas in a romantic style. Love it.
Deine eigene Freude am Spielen zu besichtigen!
Absolutely beautiful. Amazingly spiritually uplifting. How I would love you playing the wonderful pipes of St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City. Cheers!
Wunderschön Paul Fey !!!!
Dankeschön 😀
Thanks Paul - I really enjoyed that - well played with the sense of joy Balbastre wanted,
You registered it well for what is very much a modern 'Bach" organ. Hopefully one day you can have a go playing on a large 18th century French baroque organ with its shouty reeds like the Cliquot at St Roch that Claude Balbastre himself played.
If you keep on your current trajectory you could end up as an organ superstar as Claude Balbastre was and his fame was so great that the Archbishop of Paris forbid him playing at some of the services because St Roch was always crowded when Balbastre played and the other churches empty.
The English traveller Dr Charles Burney attended such a service on Sunday 17 June 1770, to hear Balbastre play the organ at Saint Roch and wrote that;
"Balbastre performed in all styles in accompanying the choir. When the Magnificat was sung, he played likewise between each verse several minuets, fugues, imitations, and every species of music, even to hunting pieces and jigs, without surprising or offending the congregation, as far as I was able to discover."
Thank you so much for watching! I hope to play a real french baroque organ one day - they are supposed to be amazing! I‘ve actually used the proper french registration for the louder parts: all foundations + reeds and Cornet, it still sounds mixture-like in this instrument though 😀
@@PaulFey I have the feeling that Daniel Roth would welcome you to St. Sulpice / Paris, Paul. Especially if you play this piece.
Daniel Roth is a friend of modern organ music, so..😢
Because Roth often plays Franck and Dupre? Those were written for his Caville-Coll.
@@volkmarbusse I find Paul to be a friend and master of most genres of music, and he has expressed the desire to play upon French organs. And Daniel has welcomed a wide variety of organists to the C-C bench at S. Sulpice. Many such recitals can be seen on YT, well produced by Francois Dub-Attente, an assistant to Daniel. I have heard some great organists thus recorded at S. Sulpice. That organ is an in-tact treasure, just as many of the in-tact organs of the early German genre.

It is such a joy to hear you play and to watch your hands.
I have a different set from Balbastre's Noels: "Josef est burn marie."
Poor Claude, it turns out his father Bénigne was not so benign! 😂He had 18 children and named three of them Claude. Rumor has it, he was a real ball buster!
Thank you so much for watching! 😀 Oooh, that Noel is beautiful too! I didn’t know about the many children and the names haha - I‘ll have to do some research!
The best music on one the best instruments.
Thank you so much! 😊

The music from this period really sines forth when you play it o this instrument in this famous church - wow that 32' posaune is unbelievable - superb dear friend.
Thank you so much for watching, Michael! I love that organ! 😊
Paul at your young age it is testament to your brilliance and musicality that you can play this instrument in Bach's church - I note that you wear a black suit in respect to this historic church and instrument - you are a legend young friend.
Großartig Paul Fey 👌 👌 👌

Fenomenal. Sou fã do Gert!
Ein herrliches Stück 👏👍🏻
Oooh ja 😀
Absolut genial gespielt. Und der 32“ killt meine Lautsprecher. So muss das sein
Brilliant. What else did Balbastre leave us? What a fine live concert piece this would make. Thanks.
I would agree that that Posaune is incredible!

I like your articulation, the colours of organsounds, transitions, tempos. Perfectissimo!
I‘m so happy to hear that, Erkki! Thank you!! 😀
JUST AWESOME!!!
Thank you!! 😀
Such a delight! You would not be able to play in all those mighty cathedrals if others did not recognize your ability. I love watching you play because you become the music. And then when you play, at home I presume, your duck stock on the foot petals makes me laugh ... the humility and humanness of your youth ... such a delight.
Thank you so much, Michael! 😊
@@PaulFey No, thank you!
as an actual bass trombonist (er, hand-held!); I APPROVE!
Wow, your performance is awesome 👏👏
I live in Iran and there is no accessible organ in my country, i searched a lot. The only thing i can do is to play great performances like you with good headphones and imagine it's real and i'm there! I hope i could play this heavenly instrument one day ✌️

I think Bach would have been satisfied with this finely crafted and magnificent instrument. Your fiery improvisation, as always, doubles the admiration of the organ!

Ganz toll 👍👍👍

A very beautiful presentation on the St .Thomas Bach organ. This French Baroque piece fits very well here, and your precise articulation and energetic performance make for an enjoyable listening experience. Thank you, Paul, for this video.
Thank you very much! 😊
Wow!! You're correct about the 32' Posaune and also it has a very smooth texture AND you can hear a pitch instead of a jackhammer sound!! Fantastic and exciting playing, Mr. Fey!!
Exactly! I‘ve never seen/heard it in any other organ so far 😀
Great job!!!!
Thank you 😀
@@PaulFey I do have one registration suggestion. On the third variation, I suggest a voix humane in the left hand, and a soft flute in the right. :D
@@VoxAngelica8 I would have done the same if there was a good vox humana on that organ! The one it has is too strong 😀
Die liebe Technik... Aber sehr sehr schönes Video 👍👍👍
Vielen Dank 😊
Thank you so much for watching, Gabriel!! 😀
Perfectly performed, my friend. Have a nice day.
Thank you so much! 😀
If I could make a request it would be to play liebesfreud by kreisler.
