Brilliant! You've solved the problem of having to watch an hourglass, waiting, waiting, waiting for it to empty out. Now, with a little calibration, you can tune that to be a 2 minute timer with an AUDIBLE marker to indicate the time, or a 5 minute timer, or whatever lengths of time you find yourself timing on a recurring basis. Best of all? NO ELECTRICITY!! Way to go Jack! You've done it again. May your shop be filled with chips and sawdust all year long, - Jim “Mr. Measure Twice” Marchetti PS - Happy New Year to you!!!
I was going to sat the same thing. Also, for people that can't hear, just put this thing in your peripheral vision while you work on whatever, and it will get your attention quite clearly when it falls. This would sell.
Sand has been around, wood has been around,Jack has been around.....it's nice to see that they got together one day. Love the concept . Merci beaucoup. Now lets make a larger size...." car crusher ".
U are a genius, I never thought of such a brilliant simple Idea that solves the issue of checking if it is time to flip over. You could have solved the problem of Longitude calculation and win the price without having to invent the crono-meter of harrison! THIS IS AMAZING, did you invent yourself ?
This is an engine. Does it work with water? Excellent video! Milkovic invented a pendulum powered water pump. LOL! Now with your invention one doesn't even have to push the pendulum!
Rather than drilling a hole, I wonder if it would have been easier just to cut a narrow channel in the surface which will be against the plexiglass? That way you could watch the sand running through it too.
Great vid once again. Although I probably won't make the timer myself, watching as you make it perfectly is just so cool ,calming and satisfying.Happy New Years and hope you had a Merry Christmas also.
I've used a nail as a drill bit in the past so not a bit surprised your wire worked. I might have to design this for 3d printing as well if that's ok. Thanks Jack
Jack H - Very good idea and build as usual. That will jolt you out of the daydream or your over focused work spell. But what of the unaware poor little cat or dog's tail laying in the way when that goes "bang!" - so I suggest it needs a little integrated safety fence that the clock tower falls into and that could be tricky to engineer.

Jack Houweling - I'm very sorry to hear that Jack. Best wishes for all. Keep in mind that we all miss you here. Thanks for everything you do and for all the inspiration.

Gotta love the free gift of gravity!
I always overcook my eggs because I forget the time.. I like them soft -now I can have soft eggs every time!
I was going to sat the same thing. Also, for people that can't hear, just put this thing in your peripheral vision while you work on whatever, and it will get your attention quite clearly when it falls. This would sell.
An example of original thought, I like this a lot. Cheers
Ha Ha, Yes! Low Tech, I Love it. Timer with audible notification, no batteries ever. Thanks
Very nice, Mr Houweling! Another inspiring creation! Thank you for sharing it!
Really a neat project. It’s a novel idea that is and would be very useful. Thanks for sharing Jack. Great job!!
Awesome trick with the wire, never expected that it would have worked as well as it did!
Clever Design Jack. Good chance I’d here that timer go off. I often miss the digital timers I use frequently.
Dear Jack,
Your bandsaw makes a cool noise like you would hear in a spooky sci-fi movie. Cool build, thanks for sharing.
Love,
Zach

Your bandsaw sounds like a ufo movie from the 50's! I really like the project, too! Merry New Year!
Genius, I you solved the law off physics 👍🏻💯💫

That's such a cool twist to an existing idea! Thanks for sharing this!

Yes you can use my design, let me know how it turns out.
Muy ingenioso.! Excelente como todos sus trabajos

Perfect timing for New Year !
Very original design. You need to add a bell to wake me up more reliably. Thanks for the idea.
Victor V. Do it yourself 2 and 1/2 minute naps right? Haha
Ingenious. Have a great New Year.
Cheers John
Nice work Jack! I like how it falls to notify when the time is elapsed.
All my best to you and your loved ones in the new year of 2018!

Hallo Jack
It works pretty good 👍👍👍
Always enjoy you videos. Thanks. Happy New Year!
Thanks, Happy New Year.
Great fun Jack :) Happy New Year ॐ
Happy New Year
Thought of making one that could flip 180 and continue to do that each time the sand runs out, without you having to stand it back up again?
bonjour tres bon tuto bonne annee
Fun Happy New Year.
Well, the Mrs just said "Oh, I like that.." so I guess I'm making a timer soon :)
Happy New Year Jack and all the best for 2018
Great thinking! Happy New Year Jack :)
Happy new year!
The thing with the wire i didn't undestand.
Cheerio from Germany.
Very small drill bits do not fit in a chuck of a drill so you have to make the diameter larger.
You may make one that it can climb down stairs.
I like it.
Timer with ghost :)
That'd be good for a 2-1/2" minute egg.... ;)

But how do you know how much sand to put in? It must be a tedious process of trial and error.
Jack where are you?
Why no more videos? :( Miss your videos
the time ?20 10 15?
Time for something new.
"OK Google, set timer for two and a half minutes"
Battery required. Plus, for something repetitious like a game, this would be better. Siri and others are great for one time use though.
Thought it would flip up and stand on the other short end.
That would be nice, lol.
. . . . and would be Perpetual Motion!!!!
Jack Houweling
Sounds like your next challenge.
Jack, everything ok? it's been 5months since your last vid. Hope you're well.
Hi I have question please can you tell me which store you bought a jig cutting circles I saw your video you used that jig if you can just tell me I want to buy?
I used a Forstner bit, they are available at most hardware stores.
Thanks
So what happened to Jack?
I can't find out anything about what he is currently doing.
I hope all is well.
Are you good ?
Why no new videos?
My wife is ill
Sad to hear your wife is sick. I hope she feels better soon.
Jack Houweling - I'm very sorry to hear that Jack. Best wishes for all. Keep in mind that we all miss you here. Thanks for everything you do and for all the inspiration.
Use it for what?!
Pushups.
