The first video I ever saw of Eden as elphaba was in a similar compilation and she was easily the worst. I’m so glad to see her in here standout as one of the bests! Totally changed my perception of her
They did Eden dirty with that clip. There are other clips of her singing defying gravity where she easily sings it better than almost anyone. She also has the best “no good deed” on youtube. When Eden is on she’s ON and she is easily my favorite. Soshana is also up there and I was lucky enough to see her back in 2006… the rest are good technically but I often don’t like their phrasing or the “pingy” broadway nature of their voice. Wide vibratos are also a no no for me lol

Perfect way to showcase this video by starting off who I continue to be the Queen Elphaba, absolutely incredible. But hats off to Morissette Amon, I found this video of her a while back, and I was like damn she really nailed that. Very good job by Edina too. As for the males doing it, sigh, when are they ever going to learn to stay away from this song.

so many dont realize that wicked was written with stephanie j block in mind for elphaba but couldnt do it when the tryouts went live as she couldn't get out of her contract with pirate queen

Umm no. She played Elphaba in the initial readings and workshop but they then decided to do a casting call and chose Idina. Stephanie was stanby in San Francisco but not on Boradway because of "The Boys from Oz".
SJB got to kick off the Wicked First National Tour and won a Helen Hayes Award for it ANYWAY. 💚🖤

The only thing I don’t like is when a non American comes to Broadway to play the part they want them to do it with an American accent this takes away from their raw talent in my opinion.
