I average about 15-16mpg on the highway. With the EDC lid you can mount solar panels to the top. You can mount a flexible solar panel to the top of the EXO. I plan to have solar panels soon enough.
Very cool camper and it looks great on the back of that ZR2! Did you consider the EDC version and if so why did you decide against it? I'm interested to hear how the ZR2 handles with the full camper buildout and any issues you may have. I didn't realize I was in the market for a truck camper but the Harker and the lone peak are very tempting options.
I did consider the EDC version for more space but the reason we ended up with the EXO came down to the much easier setup/tear down process the EXO provides over the EDC. You can't go wrong with either set up just depends on your needs. So far ZR2 has been handling it with ease. Just finished up in Moab with it and it did great on trails with the topper. We had originally had a Lone Peak on order but they kept pushing our order further and further back with a lot of empty promises. Also Lone Peak campers majority of their materials and parts are from overseas so the quality of the toppers is questionable and longevity had us concerned, so we made the switch. So far we have been loving it.
Did you upgrade to a dual mattress? (If so, what did you select?) This video shows the Harker mattress but in the other Harker Outdoors video, where they featured your rig, I thought I saw dual mattresses? Picking up my EXO in August. Thx for the discount code!
Super comfortable and plenty of room. Since the platform fully closes with the second door, we usually just move up the mattress a bit so that way when I lay on my back or roll over, my feet don't hit the roof.
Once you are buttoned up for the night, in the morning, if you want to peek out to check the weather, do you have to unzip the mosquito netting, then unzip the rain fly to see outside?
Yes you would have to unzip the mosquito net to the open the rain fly if you are up top. They do have optional side windows you could put for the bottom portion.
How is the ventilation in the EXO? There doesn't look to be a way to easily 'vent' the tent at the top w/ out purchasing the fan. How is the water/dust intrusion? Finally, how do you like the screens on the inside of the tent vs. outside? Seems backwards. Thanks.
The ventilation is great to have had no issues. I have already been camping on a few warmer nights with it, and the ventilation was good with all the windows open. If your concern was ventilation you could option out the fan. Had no issues with water intrusion and dust is nonexistent, but that is due to the rubber seals I put myself around my tailgate. The screens are normal to me as my last roof top tent had the same design.
@@outlandishoverland Thank you. I'm in the PNW so my ventilation concern was more about condensation in the winter. Have you camped in colder weather and how was the condensation? Totally agree with you regarding the fan. For my usage I'd probably option it.
Might look into this bed cap/ yent top camper. I wanr to bw ablw to go driving deeo into pisgha,Nantahala and cherokee national forest to camp. Our beautiful southern apoalachian mountain range is quite besutiful scenery.
L track accessory. If the rear hatch becomes a table, what fills the big hole above the tailgate? Seems not long ago you could get a pretty decent new pop up up trailer for $6k
It seems to be a really nice camper canopy for the price. But I really wouldn't want to deal with the table setup. It takes just way to long to set up and looks really fiddly. I have l-track in my build and know that it's not super fiddly, but enough that it would annoy me if I had to set this up this way regularly. Plus, now you've opened the rear to mosquitos and other insects. But again, the price is hard to beat, there are compromises with everything. We have an Alu-Cab Canopy Camper and opening the rear door and dropping down the integrated table we have there takes about 10 seconds. Including fiddling with a padlock ...
Nice! The integrated table is technically an option so if you didn't want to option it out you could use another form of table, it was just convenient for us. Yes, just like you said you will have compromises at this price but at the price of this topper it is very hard to beat for the small inconveniences.
Massively overpriced. $1500 worth of materials. And the options, $2800 solar package with one little panel and a 100ah battery? Whoever priced their stuff is a scumbag.
If you think this is overpriced, you should check out the rest of the market. Majority of the other competitors are more expensive and source majority of their parts outside of the USA.
@@outlandishoverland I despise the RV industry. Nothing is more overpriced. There are multiple slide in truck campers north of $100k. I plan on going the DIY topper similar to this design but fold up hard sided walls rather than the tent everyone is using.
Nice thorough run through. Looks like a great option.
Thank you! We have been loving ours so far.
These campers are awesome! Best looking ones I've seen.
Yes they are, we have been loving ours!
@@outlandishoverland that's awesome!
That topper is wildly awesome! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for watching!
Congrats on the Harker - they are sweet! I like how the EDC annexes the tailgate space making the interior even bigger. No 270 awnings on it though..
Thank you! Yeah one of the downsides to the EDC.
Damn that’s a sick camper. Love how much you can do with it in a small truck 🔥😃👍
Yeah, we have been loving it so far 🤟
Looks great!!! Can't wait to see it irl!
Yes so far it has been awesome!
This camper is rad !!! I want one but I’m broke boy 😢
It is! I'm a very broke boy now though 😅
@@outlandishoverland 😂😂😂😂😂
Love the price point. May I ask, once you are inside can you lock the caps door?
You cannot lock it once inside. I've never had an issue with wind or anything as the door does stay shut and sealed.
Love the topper! How did you do your wheels black?
Thank you, the wheels are just simply a $7 can of plasti dip.
two questions: 1) to what did you fuel efficiency change? 2) Could you get solar panels for the top of the tent roof?
I average about 15-16mpg on the highway. With the EDC lid you can mount solar panels to the top. You can mount a flexible solar panel to the top of the EXO. I plan to have solar panels soon enough.

I got the queen size and had to trim a few inches of the side so it fit.
Nice camper. I’m thinking of getting one of these also. Does the camper affect the leveling of the truck?
It does squat down the truck a little bit but a lift block helps fix that.
Being a taller fella. How do you like the size and space of the sleeping platform?
Super comfortable and plenty of room. Since the platform fully closes with the second door, we usually just move up the mattress a bit so that way when I lay on my back or roll over, my feet don't hit the roof.
Are those the stock zr2 wheels painted? What finish did you end up choosing? Looks great!
Those are stock wheels just painted black with a can of plasti dip

Yes you would have to unzip the mosquito net to the open the rain fly if you are up top. They do have optional side windows you could put for the bottom portion.
I’d imagine you could leave the mosquito nets rolled up unless you need to use them, I think it’s good they’re on the inside and not the outside.
