- Richmond London Walk In today's episode we explore the rich town of Richmond located in southwest London.
The town of Richmond has the largest commercial centre in the borough and is classified as a major centre according to the London Plan. It is an established up-market shopping destination.
Its compact centre has approximately 50,000m2 of retail floor space that is largely focused on George Street, The Quadrant and Hill Street. It comprises almost exclusively high street chains, the largest of which are Marks & Spencer, Boots, Tesco Metro and Waitrose.
A Whole Foods Market with 20,000 ft2 of floor space within a new development opened in 2013. The remaining town centre stores are largely single units.

There are EMPTY shops. In Richmond of all places. That's unheard of.

I grew up in Richmond that Nando’s used to be the best place to go to hang out had an amazing jukebox and a lot of bikers! A few doors up used to be the Ivy Shop where all the cool Mods got their clothes and next up was a record shop/music store that in the 60’s had the really hard to find R&B records (Eric Clapton lived nearby and used to buy his albums there) these days it’s got no soul and is for the rich (why I live about 4 miles away) but so much music history in the area as well as actual history! Great video!

The house right behind his head at 30.23 is called Downe House. It's where Mick Jagger used to live. It might still belong to him but he doesn't live there any more.
