- On the 4th March,ITV plc decided to mothball the Kirkstall Road studios, home to Yorkshire Television since 1968.
To keep quality television in Yorkshire, made by Yorkshire People, for Yorkshire people, save Yorkshire Television.... join the facebook site now at www.facebook.co...
Glad ITV kept the studio and updated it, it has created thousands of shows for the network over it's history, and made many people rather famous, many owing their long career to the Kirkstall Road studio
Proud Yorkshireman, born in 71, YTV big ITV player for so long, itvplc fucked up so bad, this is yorkshire television broadcasting from the emley moor belmont and associated transmitters of the independent broadcasting authority!
Mike Ludden hear hear
So true
wtf this music is beautiful!!!
Bring it back please as the quality of the programmes was the best as I don't know about anyone else but I am sick and tired of the programmes coming from Manchester or London as they seem to have the monopoly on what we here in Yorkshire watch
This is an amazing track they should have saved YTV as it was made by people in the Yorkshire regions for Yorkshire people
Rising Damp was also made by YTV. One of the best pieces of comedy programming ever
Bring back Yorkshire television whose with me
It's also worth remembering thst Yorkshire TV still exists, albeit as ITV Yorkshire now, and the Kirkstall Road studios now have an assured future thanks to their refurbishment to HD quality.
It’s still there nowadays, as “ITV Television Centre”
Bring it back now as Yorkshire is not the same without Yorkshire television
I wish they could have kept Yorkshire Television, it was great.
So do I as it was by Yorkshire people for Yorkshire people not the people down south
I am a Yorkshire lass born and bred they should have saved Yorkshire television as it was the best
The YTV chevron is possibly the most iconic symbol in commercial television. I think YTV were the only ITV region to retain their symbol on their idents throughout their history. And thanks to the huge amount of YTV programmes which went out to the network, the whole country is familiar with our very own, much loved chevron.
Granada and Border kept their symbols as well, Tyne Tees sort of did but they altered it slightly in 1992
It's now the Emmerdale production centre. First class HD studio facility.
im from hull, YTV long gone, quality local station!
Were can i get hold of a copy of this music? I remember this being used on the start ups in the 80s. Great tune.
It is called the Yorkshire theme and it is available by download
That was great -YTV will always be ytv no matter what the London suits call it or do to it -Richard will be turning in his grave! Anyway i remember this start up at 9.25 every morning after TV-AM and it was the Calendar theme tune during most of that period as well -the best Start up in my oppinion Long live YTV and shame on Mr Grade you have turned out to be worse than Charles Allen a feat i didnt think was possible !
Bring back Yorkshire television
Thank goodness itv changed their minds and refurbished the studios, ytv should return but in this competitive world of multichannels itv will never go back to regions.
Big Dave !!
Good vid fella, shame it is doing nothing more than celebrating the closing of a set of studios that has produced some of the finest television programs around.
Regards
Joe C
Not sure if on here but is at that well known source that most seem to scavange, TV Ark! This was mainly used before T-Vam (as I called it) when they had Good Morning Calendar.
A wonderful tribute!
Quite like this start-up theme, but as I was born in '72, I remember, very well, the classical music start-up version, & much prefer it.
Save YTV?? Some of the biggest drivel ever to be seen on ITV came out of that place. 'That's my Boy' immediately springs to mind.
because
oh
because
oh
because
still should be yorkshire tv it was the best for me
Great to know Leeds still has commercial television studios, albeit not actually Yorkshire Television, but crap ITV plc.
ITV will most probably never see the light of having regional TV ever again [huge shame!]. I miss what was. I untuned my ITV signal a few years ago after all the diabolical regional company mergers. That ITV channel is crass, dire, an epic fail, wasting a frequency on what could be proper regional TV once again.
I'd welcome back Yorkshire Television as a company.
What a great video ! So many programmes - can anyone remember how many variations there were to Calender ? I remember Calendar Countdown, but how many more were there? I'm sure Calendar Commentary was one I totaly agree with another contributor, Richard W, would certainly be turning in his grave if he could see what's happened to YTV. YTV also made Only When I Laugh, Duty Free, and those Hannah Hauxwell documentries.
DOND192 There was also 'Calendar Goes Pop' (1982) which was presented by Richard Madeley.
Lol yeah Calendar also had Calendar Lunchtime Live and Good Morning Claendar (pre-TV-AM) Calendar commentry, Calendar Election special 1992.
They should have saved Yorkshire television

What is this tune help anyone
Donna Fairburn It's called the Yorkshire Theme by Christopher Gunning. Unfortunately it was never made available commercially but if you look on the internet you might find it for download.
Thank you
@@DaveNightingaleRADIO thank you as I was finally able to download it
different Calendar opening titles from the 1970's calendar with thumb, then the minimal calendar with music then one with a map of ytv region with lots of little y logos, the map of the region going into calendar then a shorter version used to accomodate headlines calendar running across the screen with the day underneath by 1994 we had calendar in a circle live from the ytv news centre then the 1996 titles then pink then the orange and blue titles when duncan wood joined then corporate titles
YTV was only closed because of the way Granada felt about it after Granada nearly lost the rights to the North West after a bid from a company set up by Phil Redmond with the backing of YTV money. And even thou YTV have made more quality programmes than any other TV company, and Granada seem to only make one sodding programme, which to be truthfull is pretty diabolical, YTV still had to go. The biggest loss in entertainment this country has and will ever see.
Typical of Granada as it had strong competition from us in Yorkshire so it was get rid of the competition so we can rule the north
save ytv!!!!!!!!!!!!
