- John Kempf discusses how to reach the maximum genetic capability of your crop by recognizing critical points of influence. All crops have cycles during which either vegetative or reproductive energy is dominant in the plant. At the peak moment of each cycle, and again when the cycle switches from vegetative to reproductive, plants enter a critical window of time at which the correct support is paramount for yields and quality.

Just listened to webinar and the statement of applting cobalt (micro amounts) and that it's required in a root tip secondary hormone production. And then it hit me. The rizofagy cycle. and on a previous webinar John kempf mentioned that the cobalt would be consumed quickly by soil bacteria.there's the synergistic effect of cobalt bacteria and rizofagy cycle. Wow. A true master in his craft.
Very interesting info. Had no idea that plant growth requirements were so variable and complex. John, you take Dr level info and bringing down for us lay folks to understand. Thanks! Will be listening again to take notes for future. Interesting that no mention at all of phosphorus in either the vegetative or reproductive stages of plant growth. Care to elaborate?

Hi John, I am wondering if you could do a webinar on the subject of calcium availability and uptake? That seems to be a pretty important starting point in growing healthy plants.

It would be quite useful but I was thinking last night, it might be more so to do each element of crucial importance. I'm sure you've dug up more talks on Ca but so far it appears to be particularly mediated into the plants during rhizophagy of bacteria. Along with the nutrient release curve & addition of boron, I suspect these are primarily microbially mediated to increase the measurable uptake with sap testing & Haney. I think we would all love to listen & chat about the myriad nuances between the metabolic functions each element plays.
So i was thinking more about aboreal communities and bark feeding. Sometimes when it rains, you can see a large community of what i assume is Trichoderma Viride on the stem and branches of my citrus trees.
There must be a relationship between this DSE fungus and Lichens etc that play a significant part in both the supply of nutrients and other modulation characters to increase survival tolerance and this offer cover for extreme weather events, predation etc.
I often wonder if most all food id in fact like chewing cardboard nutritionally, but for the communities of microbes that it might host and the bounty of compounds/ elements these might carry..eg my theory being the most nutrient dense food is also host to the widest biome.

Yes, if you find forms that can be mixed together, calcium and phosphorus can be used together.

Would a few grams per hectar be sufficient to trigger those hormonal responses at CPI ? (i guess not enough to make up for defficiencies though)
The amount to apply is quite complicated to figure out, any advice ?
In France, we have this product Assimil K. When you apply it, you bring 3 g/ha Boron, 3g/ha Copper, 5g/ha manganese, 15 g/ha zinc, 27 g/ha magnesium and 14g/ha sulfur + little molybdenum. Does that make sense ? Would making this ourselfes by adding separated nutrients end up in the same result ?

Question: If you want to maximize vegetative growth on a diverse forage cover crop mix which plant do you Test for sap analysis??? Do you just test the dominant grass species, like test sorghum sudan in a 60% sorghum sedan blend? Thanks

When ur starting off and your soils are heavily deficient.. Does it matter when you amend your soil? I had significant issues with phosphorus and potassium which I addressed throughout the fall.. I’m not finished with this lecture but I’m assuming When John indicates managing your minerals, he’s talking about foliar applications.. Which brings up another question.. John manages nutrition by plant sap analysis.. How is this possible during plant dormancy when there are no leaves...

@@peterpetrelyrules, the different products AEA sells come with specific application rates. You can also get from their website the application rates for different of the main crops... and then try by your yourself correlate the different dosage of minerals in them with materials you have (please also bear in mind that only chelated minerals are efficient to any significant degree).
I am just always amazed by the detail of your knowledge. Does anyone have any tips on literature for all the things you are talking about?

hmm i dont understand why phosphorus not mentioned during blooming/flowering period...i had experience low phosphorus causing bud drops...increasing phosphorus availability solved the problem.
Yes, I was thinking the same. Phosphorus stimulates bloom. In nature, phosphorus availability is linked to warmer temperature (spring) so plants dont usually bloom until phosphorus is available.
I don't know about bud drop off though. Bud/flower/fruit drop in my experience is often due to stresses (pests/diseases/cold/water/drought etc.)
I'm really interested in pasture cropping. If I want to pasture crop into a cool season grass such as smooth brome grass, will boron application help speed up dormancy or senescence during the summer months and allow for annuals to be planted earlier and more successfully?
Boron applications will only speed up a plants natural cycle, not develop a different cycle.
Is calcium citrate a good form for soil application. Isn’t it a redox form of calcium?
What is the difference between ammonia and urea effect to the plant?
what would happen if you put too much of a nutrient on a plant? I guess it depends on the nutrient but will a plant only absorb what it needs?
I am not understanding how to delay ripening of a corn plant to increase test weight and yield. Follow sap test?

How do you know what is the full potential of a plant? How many tomatoes CAN an indeterminate vine really produce in perfect conditions?

@@AdvancingEcoAgriculture well I don't know much about the actual chemistry and stuff. What I do know is that the world record for growing tomatoes on 1 plant was about 400lbs. The way he did it was mulching and using anaerobic compost, claimed it hold 90 percent of Nitrogen while Aerobic holds just the 60 percent.
I don't really know what would be the maximum potential tbh.
Can you grow plants in pure compost outside? Or only if the soil underneath is sandy?
