      Reports have mentioned finding a few survivors at the scene. Whether they made it long enough to be treated, I don't know. They also mentioned calling off EMS during the later stages of the search and rescue which implies there were no more survivors to treat. May god bless their souls.

    A US military helicopter should be nowhere near a flightpath of a commercial jetliner right above an airport, especially not in the middle of the night. The US military will have A LOT of explaining to do.

    I've heard the audio -- the Blackhawk pilot DID acknowledge the traffic advisory from Regan tower. He responded that he had the aircraft in sight, and would maintain visual separation. HOWEVER, the Blackhawk pilot may have thought the controller was talking about a different aircraft -- another jet that was nearby. The pilot's attention may have been diverted by that other jet, with catastrophic results.

    • @ponraul1221
      @ponraul1221 11 часов назад +1

      Commercial planes have clear callsigns, even on radar, that would be difficult to confuse with a different plane. So I find this highly unlikely.

    4:52 That audio has been edited to condense it for sharing online. If you download the actual audio from liveatc it is not “rapid fire” as he suggests. He was giving the aircraft plenty of time to respond. The collision happened about 20 seconds after the helo was instructed to pass behind the CRJ.

      It is an approved flight path. The Helo was cleared to pass just behind the Passenger aircraft by ATC. What you see in the video is NOT what the pilots would have seen. For one thing, that passenger Aircraft's landing lights would not have been visible from the abeam position of the Helo. Good GAWD people are so quick to make assumptions about these things.

The helicopter pilot probably never know there were 2 jets, especially if military helicopters and commercial jets use different frequencies. All he heard was "go behind the jet".. "do you see it.". Maybe it just sounded like there was only one jet to him.

    I heard from my CRJ pilot son that the helicopter's transponder was off. If so, the CRJ's TCAS wouldn't generate conflict resolution. Also,, one commenter noted that the helo visibility should've prevented this. Such a comment has to be from someone that hasn't flown at night in a light-congested environment. It is my pure opinion that neither aircraft saw each other. The helo's upward vis is not great and the CRJ can't see traffic below.
    A bigger issue is if the helo was using UHF for comms, the CRJ couldn't hear the helo's half of the conversations which can be very important for situational awareness.
