- Another summer, another thunderstorm...
Originally started off as a quiet afternoon, the dark clouds started to rapidly roll in. Numerous thunderstorms with heavy rain and gusty winds hit the Northeastern seaboard tonight, including the NYC area during the Monday afternoon rush.
Recorded in Queens, NYC.
(Update 10/30/2019: RUclips's algorithm sure is mysterious and strange. This is, in my opinion, not the best video I'd uploaded but already it has surpassed 171.5k views!)

Before I was old enough to drive, I used to love riding in our family car in heavy rain and thunderstorms. But now that I drive more often than ride in cars, sure I would rather drive a car than ride a bike or motorcycle in any rain, as on a bike or.motorcycle you get drenched, and they do not offer much protection from lightning. But driving a car in heavy rain can be a bit challenging.
The fact you are storm chasing in NYC shows your dedication. Love it.
You know when a storm is coming when it gets darker and the wind picks up.
I remember this one, happened literally the hour after I got back down to the city coming from upstate.
This is not a severe thunderstorm
This is a typical summer thunderstorm. I did not see any damaging winds, hail, tornado, or frequent lightning in this storm.
You don't really need damaging winds or tornado, for it to be SSW. (If there's tornado, a TW would be announced as well.) NWS designates SSW specifically through NEXRAD radar, relative reflectivity (wind speed in knots and direction), and field spotters in the area that makes observation and record precip. and other weather info.
Long Island, just east of where this is filmed, got hit harder than NYC by the same storm (flooded roads, downed powerlines and trees) because in this video the cell is still going through its developing phase.

I actually got a wall cloud from this storm in Rego Park, the one you drove under, good thing it didn't drop a tornado.

city storm chasing....I have been guilty of that on more than one occasion. Great video and safe driving. Get some GoPro cameras and mount on back of vehicle and on the sides - you could capture something that is out of your line of sight....
2 days ago on wednsday in Zion a severe storm was coming and there were 2 warnings!! There was a tornado warning and a flash flood warning too! The storm lasted for hours.
Luca Pegues I live in Syracuse and one day after I was going to a pool and while I was walking I got a warning. I started dashing to my house while panicing at the flashes of lightning and the loud sounds of thunder. when I got home I turned off all my lights and unplugged all my chargers while looking at my phone about the weather. It said a flash flood and a severe thunderstorm lasting from 2 pm untill 5 pm. The ironic part was the storm was short and there was no flood at all. AND when all that was over the sun came up like nothing happend.

I live in Maryland and I had a sever storm warning a was flipping out I dOnt like storms what so ever also I think I got 60 mph winds I saw the storm also it was scary like last night
