I used to love being a full grown man, working at a gas station, in the bow tie and Bell hop cap, being called Boy by everyone who came into the station

The car seemed to have a "staring role" in the picture! Sure was a stand-out compared to all the other cars shown. Love the interior shots starting around 3:50. You can see a glimpse of the push-button transmission controls just to the left of the steering wheel.

What is this movie? Definitely worth watching for all the great shots of the DeSoto.

I spotted a 1956 Chevrolet at 2:31 & I think that was a 1952 Buick following them in multiple scenes. We're these manufactured in the Canadian Plants & exported or were they assembled from kits locally after export from Canada. What's the typical engine? I assume that it's not from Detroit as the idea so closely resembles the Canadian Dodges.

Most of the American cars in Finland were imported as a built up units from the U.S. plants. There were couple of knock down export unit assembly plants in the western Europe, but just few came there. Also Canadian made cars were minority here. Basic 6 & V-8 were typical engine.

The DeSoto Diplomat, like the Dodge Kingsway, was just a Plymouth with a different front end. I presume the reason for this disguise was that it would be easier for dealers outside the USA to just have to stock Plymouth parts instead of DeSoto and Dodge parts as well.
If the people driving around in this DeSoto are criminals, they're not difficult to spot in this flashy American car with a special low license number to boot (BE-2).

I think the main reason for Diplomat and Kingsway was that they helped overseas DeSoto and Dodge dealers to sell cars in lower Plymouth-price class. Senior models were lot expensive overseas than those which sold in the USA.

This wasn't any true DeSoto. This was one of the strange combination cars Chrysler dreamed (semi nighmared) up which were a combo of Plymouth/Dodge and DeSoto parts for various foreign and budget markets. One thing though; if your first stop after picking your new mopar whatever car up at the dealership WASN'T Zeibarts or a local body shop which Really knew how to Fully rust proof a vehicle, ALL the various parts sure did quickly rust out equally,,,

Chrysler Corp. built these cheaper export models to compete same class Chevy and Ford in foreign markets. That filmed Diplomat was as true DeSoto here as Firedome or Fireflite, which were also available by same dealer networks.
