Hey Jim, you are one of the many reasons why I picked up banjo thank you!
Glad I could help you learn 😊
Been needing this! Had my banjo tuned and I’ve been going through your beginner bluegrass series. Cripple creek was fine but when I got to banjo in the hollow I couldn’t get over how off it sounded at the 10th fret. Much better now
Glad it was helpful!
Absolutely crystal clear, thank you Jim!
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks so much Jim! Your awesome 😊 I'm about to do my first string change and I bought a new bridge to replace the original. Between your string change video and this one I feel confident that I will get it done easily. Your videos are the absolute best!
Glad I can help!!
Thanks Jim!
glad to help!
Hi Jim, I have been fooling around with my banjo for a while and am finally at a place with my fingers and hands almost working together, lol. I find your videos helpful and informative, easy to follow and fun. I am now mostly through Fmb, your version. Thank you for that.
Thanks for letting me help you learn 😊
Good Job Jim. Another great instruction video. Thank you.
Thanks 👍
Thanks so much! I am fairly new to banjo and didn't realize it was this easy and precise. MT
Glad it was helpful!
Just discovered your channel. I really like the way you explain things. Keep up the good work.
Thanks and welcome
Just ordered my first setup today! Cant wait to start!
Keep me posted on your progress
@@JimPankey yes sir! Everything should be here this Friday. I bought a used setup from Sweetwater with a few minor blemishes (Ibanez resonator) I’m extremely excited! More to follow!!
Finally explained by someone who I can understand, thank you 👏
Glad I could help!
I never really doubted it for a moment but to state the obvious, you remain amazing ⚡️
Thanks 😊
Great video mr Pankey!
Glad you liked it!
VERY enlightening!!! This will take some of the dread out of my impending string replacement. Thanks for the helpful information!
I have a string change video too….
Tip: change one string at a time.
@@JimPankey For sure...
@@JimPankey for sure...
Hi Jim I changed my first set of strings yesterday from your video thanks for the help
Glad I could help ☺️
Thank you Jim❤
You're very welcome!
great info thank you
Glad it was helpful!
What are your thoughts about a compensated bridge? My third string always seems a little off
Some banjos may need a little more help on the third string. I used to mentally labor over making sure every string was exactly intonated and tried a variety of compensated bridges. Anymore I get the first string right and leave it at that. Though, in this video, I do adjust for the third.
Hey Jim, I have a problem where even if I am perfectly in tune as soon as I put a capo on it pulls the banjo out of tune (sharp). It's bad enough to where my band mates notice. It's very consistent whether fret 1 through 5. Could this be related to bridge placement? Using a shubb with pressure very low.
Could be.
I got the same problem. Gonna try to move the bridge some.
It's been about 50 years since I've heard an imperial measurement like that 😅
I was thrilled as a kid when metrics came.
Beauty is, you can measure in any units you choose. It’s just gotta be the same. 😊
@@JimPankey I don't even want to think about the decatonic scale 😁
You ever use a compensated bridge Jim?
I have. I have a compensated bridge on my Price. Doesn’t need it, just sounded pretty good. 😊
What Banjo do you recommend for a beginner less than $ 1000.
Recording King Dirty 30s or Recording King RK20
What about the 5th string? Does that have to be the same open and fretted at the 12th fret?? When I play 5th string open it's G. But held down at the 12th fret it's D
Because the fifth string starts at the 5th fret you’ll need to check it at the 17th
@@JimPankey thank you so much!! Your videos are so helpful. Thank you for responding!!
Fragile. It must be Italian. Nice.
It’s a major award!
Jim I actually remembered the bridge placement from an earlier video I watched . And that’s what I have been doing since . I’m now on banjo number 3 . I looking to upgrade to a RKR 35 or 36 in another year . After going to an event featuring Dailey and Vincent . I’m more motivated to pick up the pace . Next on my agenda the Gettysburg Bluegrass Festival . 👏🪕
Gettysburg will be a BLAST!
@@JimPankey it’s going to be great ! Rhonda will be there on May 19th .
I have the RKR35 and it's a fantastic instrument.
Take a pencil and make a smal mark on the dack for a brige - that`s all. Abut tuning - your tuning is funny
👍
😊
Stellar
Thanks 😊
