Just bought a ticket to go see him in Nagano!!!!! I AM BEYOND STOKED!! I saw him last year in Sendai and it was the best concert I've ever been to. I actually cried. The timing of me moving to Japan and him touring again is extremely lucky. My dreams just keep coming true!
I love Takanaka. He's my music teacher, skydiving instructor, running coach, and sometimes at the end of the day we just chill on the beach together facing the opposite side of the ocean. He's truly a blessing.
If he had more generic album covers, I would've never found him. Like so many others, seeing a man in a yellow jumpsuit skydiving over an island, with the happiest smile on his face, and a thumbs-up. He made me feel like everything was gonna be okay, which I desperately needed due to my awful, seemingly never-ending depression. While he didn't cure me, he made life a bit better, even if just for a little bit. I still listen to him basically every single time I draw. This man is such an inspiration to me.
Sometimes I think: this man having done what he did and is still doing, is such a bless you know, to be able to listen it and even just know that his body of artwork exists in this tiny ball of the universe. You know what I mean? You talked about drawing so I understood you're an artist too (I'm a photographer). And that's what great art and great artists and great people do. Takanaka's vibe resonates with my heart specially me being BraSilian. It always cheers me up, just did. I hope you're well, @ArtianS. Know you're loved

Masayoshi Takanaka's late 80s run is so good, Midnight rendezvous through Gaps are all nearly perfect albums. Im so glad a bunch of those albums finally got added to streaming servies
I think a lot of his music resonates so much with us Millennials because it echoes in lots of the Sega and Nintendo soundtracks we played growing up. Sonic in particular. Clearly the makers of those games were big Takanaka fans! Pure, innocent joy.
Takanaka has been one of my big favourite artists this summer. I went on a few trips that a younger me could have never imagined, and wherever I went, Takanaka was with me. Whenever my planes were about to take off, I had the habit of playing "READY TO FLY" as a token of good luck, and a few other songs of his gave me some special memories from the summer of 2022. Thank you for making this video! It gave me a new look into his discography!
It's inspiring to see him so energetic at his age when playing guitar. You know he knows exactly what he's doing after almost a lifetime on stage with a guitar in his hand. What an amazing artist and person.
Takanaka's music makes me feel good no matter what. By far my favorite albums from him are "An Insatiable High" and "Brasilian Skies". Also, for 8:57... I spent 2 whole years thinking my laptop was glitching, only to find that only happened when I listened to that specific song, thanks to you!
i have to thank you for showing me this man and his bands. i wake up at about 430 am it doesnt matter how many times ive heard the album, it gets me moving and ready for the 1 hour drive to work.
I'm gonna be honest, i'm extremely happy that I was recommended this video. Like first of all, the quality of this... dude you're putting a Netflix documentary to shame. And second of all, i'm really starting to love this dude's music because of you. I've literally only listened to this guy for the past 2 weeks. Should I mix up my palette? Maybe... Do I want to though? Not at all. Thank you so much for introducing me to this legend! ❤️ Hope you see this, but I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't in this sea of comments 😅

I had no idea who Takanaka was until 17:22 minutes ago... WOW! I found GOLD! Also... Beautifully done mate! the simple explanation with the organized data and samples of different tracks was what kept me watching... bravo!
I'm surprised to hear that Takanaka is one year older than me. He still looks young, which is more than you can say about me. He's been around forever.
I don’t think I’ve heard a more impressive performance by anyone ever than the live version of Plumed Bird from the Rainbow Goblins album - the whole thing is an incredible display of musicianship and perhaps more importantly having FUN with music!! Such a funky weird track
I've been something of a rock music snob for most of my life. To the point where very few things really register at this point in any sort of emotional way. But Takanaka's music always makes me feel good. In a really basic and uncomplicated way.
Very happy to see a video on Takanaka. I found him earlier this year during a cruise in California. I stopped by a record store and from there I picked up a Takanaka record and was immediately hooked to Japanese jazz fusion
i LOOOOVE masayoshi takanaka. The best part is that with him you don't pick the music. You pick thr album cover, and then the music find's its way to you no matter what you picked. Truly a legend. I wanna go to his concert but thats gonna be close to impossible :((((
intresting fact: both Takanaka & Les Claypool(of primus) based an album off the story book "The Rainbow Goblins" by Italian childrens book author, Ul de Rico. Primus titled their album "The Desaturating Seven".
Takanaka’s Rainbow Goblins album is one of my all time favorite jazz fusion albums and my personal favorite of his. The amount of charm and soul put into each track brings a smile to my face every time I listen to it.
Its become one of my only 2 comfort albums along with Songs From Distant Earth from Mike Oldfield, it has a vibe I've never found elsewhere, even in my favorite bands.
I've listened to a good portion of his albums and work and I haven't heard anything that I dislike, all of it is great, but the Rainbow Goblins is literally a perfect album in its construction. Like, every song flows so well from one to another, there's no filler, and whenever I start the album saying "I'll just listen to a couple songs" the whole thing ends up passing me by, its just that smooth.
This video was in my recommended and i just had to look at the thumbnail to know this is gonna be one of my favorite artists ever. I'm brasilian and surprises me the amount of japanese songs with a touch of samba in it. I didn't know so many people likes it. Also I really like your videos.
Bossa Nova is my favourite genre. I don't know any artists, because I have never heard a Bossa Nova song I didn't like I have to look into more Brazilian Music.
Brazilian people love life and know how to have fun, that is communicated through samba. Everybody loves it. As a British person, well anybody that watches football will agree, samba clearly influences the way Brazil plays football too, joyfully, with rhythm and expression, so that is how many people first come into contact with samba and Brazilian culture.
Takanaka is a paramount force in my music tastes and has been part of so many memories for me. Thanks for this video. Even with 2 mil views I wish more people would know about this man.
I found Takanaka a few years ago from the algorithm. He's always been my go-to artist whenever i need some cheering up. but this documentary showed me that theres so much more of him that I've yet to discover. Takanaka is truly a gift to this world.
When I visited Japan, I spent a good quarter of my budget on Vinyls. I was surprised to find so many of Takanaka's records to be available for cheap. On my last week, I even found a new in wrapper Brazillian Skies!
I absolutely love Takanaka's late 70s and early 80s work. It's a shame not a lot of people in the west know about him. I guess we have to thank the algorithm for making millions of us discover his music decades later 😃

Had "All of me" as a random recommendation on RUclips about 5 years ago.
Repeat button since that time!
Man, I never heard this guy before, that sucks !
How ? This is awesome ! I wish I had known about him before. This would have made my summers.
Better late than ever. Thanks so much for the video
this guy became my GOAT
Love Japanese 80’s music. I clearly captured the 80’s American style and gave it a Japanese accent. Absolutely underrated and amazing.
All those years of amazing music and Takanaka only aged like 10 years
The channel is incredible and you are doing gods work. I fell into a rabbit hole of 80s Japanese music in 2017 and to this day I'm still falling further down and finding out more and more truly incredible and soul-soothing music and aesthetics from these absolute legends from Japanese music. I really think these people have contributed so much to humanity in general and created so much joy. 🎉 I think Japanese society needs to embrace this rich history (80s) and return to form, because it is sad the way things are now. 😢
I love Takanaka's sky diving picture so much. When I saw the same shoes at the store, I had to have them
Masayoshi Takanaka's late 80s run is so good, Midnight rendezvous through Gaps are all nearly perfect albums.
It gave me a new look into his discography!
the surfboard guitar is insane
Hope you see this, but I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't in this sea of comments 😅
thanks for the lovely comment!
@@T2norway Hey much deserved man. Thanks for taking the time to read it :)
@@T2norway Weird place to put this, but can you do a video on Soul'd Out? They are a really interesting band, with even more interesting songs, namely Metropolis Patrol, the lesser-known Japanese intro to The Boondocks.

Today is a special day: the day that RUclips recommended this incredible musician to me!
What the heck!!? The standard look and sound just doesn't cut it no more..gotta grab the stars
Such an amazing musician. Takanaka's songwriting never gets old.
"He isn't falling, he's rising" - RUclips comment under All Of Me
This is pretty much how I discovered him too. The Rainbow Goblins floored me when I first heard it. I rented a jazz CD and was not expecting this.
"The Rainbow Goblins" live performance still remains one of the most beautiful concerts I have ever seen
i LOOOOVE masayoshi takanaka. The best part is that with him you don't pick the music. You pick thr album cover, and then the music find's its way to you no matter what you picked. Truly a legend. I wanna go to his concert but thats gonna be close to impossible :((((
Listening to takanka makes me really want to learn guitar.
intresting fact: both Takanaka & Les Claypool(of primus) based an album off the story book "The Rainbow Goblins" by Italian childrens book author, Ul de Rico. Primus titled their album "The Desaturating Seven".
Takanaka’s Rainbow Goblins album is one of my all time favorite jazz fusion albums and my personal favorite of his. The amount of charm and soul put into each track brings a smile to my face every time I listen to it.
Is stunning
GOBLINGOBLINGOBLINGOBLINGOBLINGOBLINGOBLINGOBLINGOBLINGOBLINGOBLIN
Its become one of my only 2 comfort albums along with Songs From Distant Earth from Mike Oldfield, it has a vibe I've never found elsewhere, even in my favorite bands.
@@mitaku2287 Look for Khruangbin.
As a huge Casiopea fan when I found Takanaka I instantly fell in love with his music
@icankillbugs
I hate the fact that I know who your talking about……
i shouldnt have googled her!
@icankillbugs
Being from Brazil myself, it really makes me so happy to see that Takanaka was really so passionate about Brazillian music. A true legend
you’ve put me onto him so hard and now i’m in his top .001% on spotify. Thanks man!!
This video was in my recommended and i just had to look at the thumbnail to know this is gonna be one of my favorite artists ever. I had to rush to my desk job, without even being able to watch the video but I remembered the name Masayoshi Takanaka and listened to him all day at work. Now he is one of my most listened to artists ever. Thank you!
5:35 on drums you have Yukihiro Takahashi, the drummer for legendary electronic band Yellow Magic Orchestra. A must listen.
RIP
Taj Mahal - JORGE BEN JOR! What a legend Takanaka was, all they way from Japan to Brazil, this man lived a life worth living for!
This is from two years after watching this video. THANK YOU!
I found Takanaka a while ago, but MY GOD did I fall in love with his music almost immediately. Really got me into the whole Jazz Fusion, and a good friend of mine introduced me to CASIOPEA and I have never looked back once
Dude RUclips is kinda awesome when it recommends me good shit like this
All of me is one of my favorite albums of all time. Every time I set sail on my boat it's time to jam
”Oh! Tengo Suerte” is the best summer song ever.. and the best driving song.. and the best feelgood song… and maybe just the best song in general?
I got a lit of my friends and coworkers on his music through Tokyo reggae and tengo Suerte
So glad I found this video to give me validation for my love of jazzpanese city pop fusion
I just stumbled into the rainbow goblins on my youtube recomended, I clicked because of the cover and because I think goblins are funky little creatures... It's one of my favorite albums of all time
Beleza pula is definitely my favorite takanaka song it’s just so fun
I got recommended videos about this guy over and over again, for no discernable reason. Apparently the youtube algo is just really, really fond of Takanaka-san
2:33 the amount of times ive watched this performance. his grin as he walks onto stage with that surfboard is so good
ruclips.net/video/cTDK5Bluh5A/видео.html
here is performance btw
I'm brasilian and surprises me the amount of japanese songs with a touch of samba in it. I didn't know so many people likes it. Also I really like your videos.
Bossa Nova is my favourite genre. I don't know any artists, because I have never heard a Bossa Nova song I didn't like
I have to look into more Brazilian Music.
Brazilian music has deeply influenced jazz and other music.
no japão, a bossa nova é muito famosa. la fora, o samba e todos os tipos de musica brasileira sao estudadas nas faculdades de musica
Your beautiful editing does not go unnoticed
that’s very kind of you!
Glad you’re helping more people discover this guys work.
He made THE RAINBOW GOBILNS!?!?!?
I almost spat out my soda, I've been listening to this guyfor ages without even making the connection!!
Listening to Takanaka’s music makes me feel high, literally.
When I visited Japan, I spent a good quarter of my budget on Vinyls. I was surprised to find so many of Takanaka's records to be available for cheap. On my last week, I even found a new in wrapper Brazillian Skies!
I feel like we were really robbed in the west for everything Japanese! Thank you for bringing this master to my senses!
Maaaaan i randomly clicked on the YT insatiable high album a decade ago. Pretty much bought all his albums now, yet to tire of any
words cannot describe how awesome takanaka is.
I absolutely love Takanaka's late 70s and early 80s work. It's a shame not a lot of people in the west know about him. I guess we have to thank the algorithm for making millions of us discover his music decades later 😃
takanaka is magic. rainbow goblins is my fav
masayosher takanaker my beloved
Thank you for introducing me to this legend!
The more I play guitar and the more I try to learn to play better, the more I appreciate this guy.
I need more Takanaka LORE, 17 minutes of joy are not enough 😭😭😭😭

@@mingyuhuang8944 indeed man indeed. Modern Japanese singers and musicians have declined. They're still good modern Japanese singers and musicians but they are not great as the singers and musicians from the 80's
Just an absolute legend
Once I found Takanaka, I haven't been able to stop listening to him, nor do I ever want to. The vibes I want to exude every single day.
