Andrew if you read this… the main actress in this movie played the role of Dr. Suman in Munna bhai M.B.B.S that you watched… truly a great actress…. Most movies dampen the roles of actresses and focus on known heroes however she is quite a talented actress and has portrayed the characters very well in both movies.
Are you kidding me ?? Andrew Flash Gordon is the sweetest white guy out there. He would cry at the plight of the Indians, pay triple tax for 3 years from his own pocket, perhaps take out loans for that and then volunteer to learn gilli-danda with the villagers. He only looks white from the outside, he is a softie on the inside. The amount of tears he has shed watching Indian movies can fill a few wells in Champaner which the farmers can use to irrigate the fields to a bumper harvest. he the opposite of menacing 😂😂
Finally!!! Andrew reacting to a masterpiece of Bollywood. This movie was brilliant at capturing the themes of late 1800s Colonial India. The atmosphere of the village, the "superiority complex" mindset of the British, and the people getting fed up from the oppression, and so on. 3:00 A R Rahman is a national treasure. He always does brilliant scores. In the second act of the movie, you would see how well he recreated the Victorian era music for a sequence on the British side. 4:47 Indeed, Paul Blackthorne nailed his role as Captain Russel, carrying all the arrogance, the ego, the ruthlessness, and the "desire to one-up the people around him", with finesse. In the BTS clips, he was really bad with his Hindi dialogues, fumbling over and over again, till a dialogue coach put him back on track. Here's a suggestion: Once you finish the movie, you guys should react to the companion video on Netflix, named, "Madness in the Desert", where the Producer (Aamir Khan) and the director (Ashutosh Gowariker) went through all the difficulties in making this masterpiece. It's a long documentary, but it covers all the BTS bits and the challenges of shooting on location. You guys can split it up into multiple parts and post the reaction for that. Trust me, Andrew will LOVE the filmmaking efforts that went into this masterpiece of a project.
@@shivkr0592 As Indians, we know how we feel about our movies and have watched enough people review and critique movies. It is always interesting to see an outsider watch our masterpiece and give his/her opinion on a blank slate. We have a lot of bias and hate in our current atmosphere, and it is a lot more refreshing to move out of the "troll sphere" and look at a newbie's commentary about what he/she likes/dislikes about the movie. Regarding the productivity of this, not everything that gives happiness has to be productive. If so, the entire thing about "amusement parks" or "movies" and so on would not be "productive" and hence be worthless. These things are leisure activities, which we do in our leisure, for relaxing. If they stop movie reactions/critiques, I will move on to a different group/channel.
@@shivkr0592 dude, movie critics have existed as long as movies have and their whole job is being paid for watching movies and writing their opinions. So why are you acting as if reacting to a whole movie and reviewing it afterwards was different? It's exactly the same thing with a plus: an interactive watch accompanying the review. I don't see people like you complain that movie critics don't produce content and are only paid to watch other's content... 🙄
@@shivkr0592 😂😂😂 you are so ignorant. Lagaan was nominated for an OSCAR. It's often included in western articles about must watch movies. It's a movie that is extremely accessible to westerners. So claiming that a westerner won't get this movie is just idiotic. Also, Andrew is obviously very keen on learning about Indian cinema. He is a movie buff and he pays attention to cast, directors, composers etc. You are basically just gate keeping by saying a westerner shouldn't watch Indian movies because they won't understand. It's dumb. Also, they do not simply compile "funny scenes". On Jaby's channel there's been various watchalongs of movies that are not happy movies. The cut down version simply included reactions to the major scenes of a movie not just funny scenes. Also, all these watchalongs are followed by an ACTUAL REVIEW. So your point that reactions and reviews are different is totally moot. This channel DOES do reviews. Also moot was your argument that reactions are bad because it's just reacting to content. As I explained, this applies to movie critics too. There are very few movie critics who provide anything else than a totally subjective biased opinion. Reviews on this channel are as legit if not more as so called professional critics' reviews. "Nothing left for them" lol they keep watching and reviewing movies that had never been reviewed on the channel. Last week alone had Dostana and Dream Girl. Both never reviewed previously. So again, you are wrong in claiming that they only watch movies a 2nd time with new people. And there is nothing wrong by including these 2nd reactions. It builds the knowledge of new reviewers like Andrew, who gets to know more and more movies, actors and directors. You seem to have an issue with the fact these channels make money. But you don't have an issue with papparazzi spreading gossip or with some movie critics who always trash movies for no reason? These channels make content that people actually enjoy. They make money through ads and subscriptions. It's not taking your money so what are you complaining about? It's so silly. There are a lot of problematic channels out there (kid influencers, fake news etc), and a channel that provide actual reviews and not just mindless reactions is NOT one of them.
Wow! This takes me back 22 years! Thank you for this reaction! Andrew, just FYI, the making of Lagaan is also quite interesting (and still available on YT, I think) and includes the trials and tribulations of the crew and the actors.

fun fact, the dialogue in this movie are not exactly in Hindi, they speak a language called Awadhi. Which is similar to hindi but not exactly. It's a complete different language mostly spoken in Uttar Pradesh.
Well, I read in the making background that the initial draft went complete hardcore Awadhi, but then the dialogue writers realized that pure Awadhi would fly completely over the heads of the audience, so they diluted it with Hindi. The language in the movie is a mix of Hindi and Awadhi dialect. BTW, fun fact, this was apparently the first movie where Aamir Khan was fumbling in his Awadhi dialogue delivery. His plan was to go to a village in the Awadh region of Uttar Pradesh, and just live among the villagers for a month or so, to perfect his Awadhi dialect for the movie. But pre-production works dragged for so long that he couldn't get the chance to properly learn his Awadhi dialogues.
