      It isnt just incompetency, it is also the rules they have in place to adopt out, most places require you own a home with a large yard with good fence, a clean house, and most want you to pay handsomely just to get a dog, when you can do the same thing on craigslist with NONE of the hassle.

    Whoever is in charge needs to be fired. Last dog I adopted in another state took all of 20 min. The dog still needed to be spaded but how they do it is you leave a deposit and when you bring proof of the procedure the deposit is returned.

      Twenty minutes to adopt a dog? You must have went to a city run dog pound. There, they don't care where the animal goes as long as they get rid of it. They don't do background checks to see if you've been arrested for animal abuse. Just take a copy of your driver's license (sometimes) and take your money and out the door you go. Yea, that's a real responsible way to treat innocent animals who may end up in abusive homes or as a bait animal for a dog fighter.

    This is a systemic problem. Everything in this country that used to function just fine for decades has suddenly become dysfunctional af. It’s like they are trying their hardest to make everything as inefficient as possible. There is zero regard for customer service. Try complaining to RUclips about something. It’s a massive company and I don’t think they even have a complaint department. You wouldn’t see this kind of thing in America 15 years ago. Suddenly it’s like we are in the USSR. I thought I was doing something nice for her. Her well being was the only reason why I was down there now. I will never go to the animal foundation after what they did to me and my dog. I tried bringing my dog to meet they no longer do this, and I had no idea how horrible the wait was. I keep kept checking on my dog and they took her out of my car, never looked for me, it wasn't hot, all windows were down and she had water, now I have to go to court. Not to mention when they brought her out to me they were dragging her.

    This is the problem with rescues now days, tbh so many of these organizations are just as bad as the people they claim to be protecting animals from. I don't live in Vegas but my local shelter refuses to allow me to foster, because I have "too many dogs" I have 2 dogs that are absolutely wonderful training assistants, my younger dog is very much a momma dog that does not take anything from puppies but doesn't hurt them just correct them. My older dog is my absolute work horse, she helps teach them to be calm in public and not to be scared of strangers. My dogs are both on and off leash trained and we go for a mile+ walk, hike, run, or bike daily....I have gotten to the point that I refused to even speak with the local shelters and most of the "rescues". Hell most of them don't even know that a large dog shouldn't be neutered before he is done growing as testosterone is what closes the growth plates in dogs, remove that by cut off a male's nuts and he will most definitely have issues down the road....

    Read an adoption contract. Most of them say that you do not in fact own the pet, and that they can come and get it anytime that they feel you're not taking appropriate care of it. They also make other weird demands and conditions. The microchip is supposed to stay registered to them, they can inspect your house at any time with no notice...ect. .
    A friend of mine fostered two tiny bottle baby kittens last year. She fell in love with them of course and adopted them through the rescue. She recently moved from her house into a 2 bedroom apartment which allows pets. The rescue found out and took the cats. She is so heartbroken.

The next day I arrived at 9 AM with my water, chair and umbrella but there are already 3 persons in line; I was no 4. Fortunately, those 2 ahead are looking for dogs while the girl no 3 is wanting a kitten but her choice is Berry and I want my kitten Mario. Upon opening at 11 AM, there are already 45 people on line and a liaison came out to meet us and register us on his I-Pad asking our preferred pet no and photo with an option to pick 2 pets just in case the priority choice is not approved. When I entered, i received a text that my line no is 4 and received a link to confirm your arrival. Afterwards, I went to my kitten room and there were 5 people wanting my Mario but fortunately I am no 4 they were at the bottom. I checked my status and the waiting lists approved only 19 people so those 26 among the 45 in line were sent home. They interviewed me if I am qualified to adopt with background check I think. After approval I paid for the adoption fee depending on the pet, condition and if you are a veteran or healthcare which have discount just show ID. After that they guided me to my Mario and scanned him and adopted at 2 PM. Many got dismayed when they saw Mario being taken but like this foundation is saying first come first serve, be there early at least in the top 10 on waiting lists and verify with people in line what are they getting. Mario is the sweetest kitten and I have no regret. 🥰

    I'm so sick of hearing people bitch about not being able to walk into an animal shelter and walk out with an animal in 20 minutes. These shelters are overflowing because of people that abandon their animal there or on the street. Do you really think that a shelter is suppose to just hand over an animal to anyone who wants it without doing any background checks or asking any questions and maybe put the dog or cat back with another irresponsible owner? Most shelters have very little paid staff and volunteer staff are not always reliable so when they are overcrowded with animals meeting with people who want to adopt can take time. Most legitimate animal rescues have you fill out an adoption application ahead of time so the shelter can judge to whether you would be a responsible owner or the dog would be a good fit for your lifestyle so the animal does not end up chained in a backyard forgotten, dumped or turned in to a shelter again. Adopting an animal to someone should be all about the animal, that it's going to someone who will care for it, not abuse it and make it part of the family. It's not about your damn convenience in the process. And damn 8 News Las Vegas for this article. It only hurts the animals! The shelter is doing their best FOR THE ANIMALS!

    • @ms55938
      @ms55938 Год назад

      @@HJ-jy7fw Wacky? Because I care about animals I'm "emotionally unstable"? I've been in the animal rescue business for years and most people don't see a quarter of what rescuers see. The neglect, abuse and down right cruelty is heartbreaking and that is why we try to make sure the animal doesn't end back up in another bad home. I denied many people from adopting a dog from me and that's the norm for most legitimate animal rescues. Apparently if you ran the shelter you'd just hand dogs out to anyone just to get rid of them. The shelter may be running on limited staff and/or volunteers and are doing the best they can. Bashing the shelter only hurts the animals.

    • @anonamoose1968
      @anonamoose1968 Год назад

      You apparently never visited this location before they "improved?" . You could enter without an appointment, look at the dogs that were there. If you found one that struck your fancy then you asked a volunteer for help visiting with the dog. Everyone was happy, it worked well. They very literally screwed a perfectly working system. In turn making it damn near impossible to even look at dogs in person to see if you even connect. I tried, attempted to make an appointment (during non emergency dog time 2 years ago) no appointments. Tried to go to the shelter in person to get on a waiting list, sorry it's full.
      It is unfortunate that the way that it is currently run is making craigslist and other backyard breeders the only viable alternative, exacerbating the problem.

      You should check with local vets and find out the price of a vet visit, vaccinations, heart worm check, test and medications for intestinal parasites, spay or neuter, microchip. That's what the adoption fee is for. But I guess you think the rescue should not be able to re-coup any of that money and just give you the dog. Most rescues have at least $400 in vet bills for each animal they take in and if the dog needs dental work or has an injury that needs to be treated your talking a lot more. ,And if the poor thing is positive for heart worms they're looking at anywhere from $500 to $1000 to treat so get off your damn high horse to think a rescue should give animals away and not check the background to see if they are placing the animal with someone responsible. If you don't see the reasoning behind their adoption application or reasonable adoption fee than you probably wouldn't want to spend any money on the animal if it were to become injured or sick.

    stop putting animals in shelters then and stop shipping animals across the country after a disaster let them stay and fend for themselves
