Pusha T is finally getting the props he has been long overdue. You youngstas out there may not know Pusha and his brother, no malice, were the duo known as Clipse back in the day. They were produced by a young new man on the scene, Pharelll.
Now like Mase from bad boy, no malice found religion and left the game (Can't blame him if he found it). Clipse got screwed royally by the label they had as well.
Pusha reminds me of an independent artist who already in the ranks of rap basically had to drop a few levels and still made his way back to the top and look at his title and signing at GOOD music.
And while Kanye has a different personality than 99%, one thing you can never take away from Kanye is what he has done for the game. If you never have, Google tracks Kanye produced. You will have a new outlook on Yeezy after that.
But pusha is so much of a lyricist, a storyteller. Think 2pac, slim, shyne (one album then went to jail for puffy unfortunately, go listen to The Life), notorious, and I'll put Freddie Gibbs and Royce da 5'9 in this as well.
It's appalling to me, born in '83, coming up through this genre and now I hear a song that just says Gucci gang???!?! What the holy fuck? And while designer did have Panda, at least the goddamn melody was there.
It's a shame, I say with confidence two things. 1. This art has been saturated by face tattoo fucking kids who try to use the entertainer aspect but the fucking music is trash. One artist of late is Kevin Gates (Did trust you with pusha). If pac and biggie hadn't gotten murdered, this conversation wouldn't be had.
And 50 cent rightfully fired on the first artist who really fucked shit up going commercial, Ja Rule. Nelly could do those crossover pop songs and that was ok because he could also drop an album. Now it's a lot of selling out.
So King Push, I honestly say thank you. Your work is definitely not just listened to but enjoyed on so many levels. And it's sad you didn't get to the top and stay there long ago. But you know what you're doing and I'm proud you have been able to survive when nobody else could have. If Kanye ever goes off the reservation for good, you could run that label no doubt.
