I'm just a starting artist, and found that you walked me through this project with no problems. In fact its my 2nd painting I did, and my friend liked it so much that I took it to a Hobby Lobby, got it framed and sent it to her in Texas. I am going to do another for myself! lol.... It came out really good for me not knowing a darn thing about art, and I appreciate you for making the 2 video's, and its really inspired me to do more painting. TY again Bickford for my new adventure!
Thanks Wilson,I painted this in acrylics and it turned out pretty well, one of friends liked it so much ,she took it home and it's now hanging in he living room
You saved me!!! I am doing a oil painting of an awesome Photo my son took of a star lite night in Vermont and I just about cried when I tried to do the stars by hand. This worked great! And better then a toothbrush!
i did this painting in acrylics and my son loved it, so needless to say i don't have it anymore. but i do have a picture of it for keep sake. great lesson and easy to follow. thanks wilson for sharig
Wilson, thank you so much for your wonderful, detailed tutorials. They have contributed much and have helped my skills to improve. I look forward to more of your videos. Thx again.
For making an almost perfect round full moon, I was taught to use a flat brush approx. half the size you want the moon to be, and place it where the moon is going to be, and then slowly spin it in a circle until you meet where you started at. Yes it does work, with a wee bit of practice. - Hope that helps you, or someone else who is worried that they can never get the full moon just right in roundness.
It's not so bad, I just started, been using acrylics for a long time, and oils are a lot less smelly/scary than I expected. The low odour solvents are nice.
@naninunchucks004 Well, I'm not Mr. Bickford, but the answer is yes. Acrylics dry so much faster than oils, though,(oils can take days to dry) so you need to either work quickly or make many dry layers to create a smooth grade like he did. Also, for the thinner he's talking about, use water to thin acrylics. You can get acrylic thinners/thickeners, but I find that water works just as well.
@89angeldreamer I was asking myself the same thing, so i gave it a go with acrylics, and it looked awesome! it's just that, you have to be quick with acrylics because it tends to dry much quicker than oils :)
Virginia.
Can this be done in acrylic following along step by step?I'm absolutely in love with this science..And I love your work..I have all acrylic stuff..some oil but cheap stuff from Walmart..I've done one oil painting..really want to learn but don't have the money to get all new stuff for oils just yet..in time tho..so I'm hoping this will work in acrylic..Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
you can use soap and water but!, you should have multiples of each brush in order to paint a wet on wet because it will take forever to paint otherwise. Get a good brush soap. Clean as much paint off as you can with paper towel and then use your hands to remove the rest while using the brush soap. It will take longer because the thinner helps a lot. I would never paint wet on wet without an odorless thinner
Hi, just a little question. What exactely is name of the see-through layer you put on in the beginning (so you will be able to fade things nicely)? Thanks, great video!
Im sure you could but acrylics dry really fast. I just stopped using them after i started using oils cause oils are so much easier to work with and give you time
+Oriana Forsythe I don't recommend, it will make your paint dry really fast (unless that's what you want), but try it out on a small little canvas and see how it turns out.
HELP will watch more later right now have horrendous headache. i did an oil painting of a lake at midnight all is good but someone told me my moon cool color is good but the yellow blossoms and the green on the trees are too warm need to turn them in next week to hang in our theatre. can you help Whitedove what green should i use what is your email i send you a picture of it
You are an incredible artist and a great teacher. You make a beginners painting look like masterpiece. Thank you!!

Thanks, Wilson. This is a great way to paint stars and a night scene. I'll try this with acrylics, since I do not point in oils.

can you please show us how to prime with gesso. how long do we need to wait for it to dry.
Thank you so much.
I think it was to emphasize the reflection of the moon on the water. Landscape would've made the horizon more of a focal point. :P
Beautiful painting! Would u tell me which thinner do u use for washing the paint brushes
I love this painting. So if you use acrylics, do you use the same colors as called out in this painting?
Thank you so much for your share,I love the way you explain,my english is bad,so please I did not understand what solution is in your big contain?

Hello, what kind of material is the big brush? Thank you for your videos.
Thank You :)
Amazing
i just do that its amazing
if i use acrylic colors on the entire painting, will it give me the same result ?
They make retardants and gel mediums for acrylic that simulate oil properties.
Are the mediums fast or slow drying?
what is that thing that its seems gel (brown color) that he put like first layerplease answer me
@ serchoaristic he put clear medium on first(on the black).
what oil paints are using on the canvas .?????
bonjour Wilson,
Beautiful can i get these painting accessories
Im sure you could but acrylics dry really fast. I just stopped using them after i started using oils cause oils are so much easier to work with and give you time
Can I do this with Acrylic Paint?
wunderbar
Can I use turpentine as a clear medium to wet my canvas?
+Oriana Forsythe I don't recommend, it will make your paint dry really fast (unless that's what you want), but try it out on a small little canvas and see how it turns out.
Will this worl if i don't use oil paints
I meant work
what is that? the liquid inside the white bucket?
usually its odorless paint thinner
thanks
thanks
what color did he use?
If you want to use acrylics, you could consider use retarder with it, so the drying time gets longer.
What size canvas?
can i do this with acrylic
pray tell, why don't you use your palette knife to mix paint colors if you have one?
Not sure why you painted in portrait rather than landscape?
HELP will watch more later right now have horrendous headache. i did an oil painting of a lake at midnight all is good but someone told me my moon cool color is good but the yellow blossoms and the green on the trees are too warm need to turn them in next week to hang in our theatre. can you help Whitedove what green should i use what is your email i send you a picture of it
